Hello and welcome to jasonnewland.com. My name is Jason Newland and this is Stress and Pain Relief podcast. Please only listen when you can safely close your eyes. So I'd like you to get yourself comfortable sitting in a comfortable chair that supports your body or lying down on a flat surface such as a bed or a sofa or something like that.
Just a warning that if you do listen to this whilst lying down there's a good probability that you will drift off to sleep because the combination of lying down and listening to my boring voice is, can often end up into a sleepy sensation of wonderfulness. I've just got a very boring voice and as you listen your mind will start to slow down. Those thoughts that maybe were a bit a bit overbearing maybe can start to just reduce naturally.
It's almost like your own mind is temporarily being replaced with my voice. So the things that you think your own voice in your own head which we all have is, you know, I'm temporarily taking over with your permission of course. And the only things I'll say will be positive things and aimed at relaxing and also reducing chronic pain at the same time.
So the same technique for reducing stress can be used for chronic pain relief. So those two things can be helped by one thing which is pretty groovy. To start with I'd like you to get in touch with a part of your body that is representative of the, either the pain or the stress that you may currently be experiencing.
So if you've got chronic pain in your knee or your shoulder or your elbow or your foot and focus on that particular part of your body. If it's stress and tension that you're focusing on, just focus on the part of your body where you feel it most obviously. And just get in touch with that area, that part of your body.
And even though other parts of you may also be experiencing either pain or tension on a lesser level, when you reduce that level of discomfort in that one part of your body, it then sends a signal to the rest of your body to do the same, to mirror that feeling of increased comfort that's naturally occurring even as we speak. Which is why we need to try and get in touch with the feeling now before it naturally reduces.
Because once you focus on that part whilst listening to my voice, having given yourself permission to spend this time just for you, just looking after your own well-being, your body and your mind appreciates that.
Your body and your mind realises that you're being kind to yourself by allowing yourself this space, this safe space to just observe that part of your body that used to be a problem. And as you continue to observe that part, you can notice that those physical feelings are of course also connected emotionally. Because physical and emotional, it's all a feeling.
So whatever physical feeling you have, half of that feeling is made up, at least half if not more, is made up from the emotions, from how we think about that part of our body that may be irritable or have discomfort. And our emotional response to that physical discomfort is what keeps the feeling as strong as it has been. That's where the energy comes from.
So when you sever that connection, when you splice it into and you remove the emotional side, you cut off the blood supply as it were to that feeling. Just in the same way as if you cut off the blood supply to your foot, you would lose your foot eventually, your foot would die without the blood supply. You cut off the emotional supply to that physical discomfort such as stress, tension and that chronic pain which isn't needed.
And what happens is that physical feeling no longer has that energy or as the analogy goes, that blood supply is cut off. So that physical feeling in that part of the body which was perhaps distressing to you previously, no longer has any power, it no longer has any energy whatsoever. The energy source has been removed.
So instantly, that feeling is cut in half instantly, in the moment, as soon as you sever that connection between the emotions and the physical feeling, the emotions being your reaction to that physical feeling, and as soon as you cut that away, the physical feeling reduces by at least 50% instantly. And you can test that now, now that we've separated that energy source of the emotions to the physical part of your body.
You can experience for yourself the difference instantly, just by your own feelings, the physical feelings of that part of your body now that it's changed.
And that in itself could be a really nice break, a really nice rest to knock off 50% of those feelings, maybe more than you even imagined was possible. To reduce your stress by 50% so quickly. Or any other physical discomfort that may have been there prior to you deciding to listen to this recording, means that there's less work to do.
In fact, there's not really anything else needed, because as you observe that physical feeling, which no longer has the emotion connected, doesn't have that energy, like the blood supply is now being severed, cut, removed, the feeling starts to die. It just starts to reduce. It's almost like, it's like an old plant drying up as all the moisture removes itself in the hot sun.
And that plant goes from being green to being brown, to eventually just crumpling up into nothing. And it's no longer the plant that it was before. And it can never again be the plant that it was before.
And as you just observe that feeling, reducing, you can also decide to observe the rest of your body. And notice how the rest of your body is also relaxing. How the rest of your body is also feeling more comfortable.
And then when you move your focus to your mind, you may be surprised at how slowly everything is moving in your mind. It's very, very peaceful. There's not really much going on, because nothing needs to be going on.
Things are slow and quiet. And you can enjoy that feeling, knowing that even when you're focusing on your mind, the rest of your body continues to relax. And even when the rest of your body is continuing to relax, that first part of your body that we were focusing on, the physical sensations are reducing even more with every passing second.
Even more comfort as time passes by. A sense of increased calmness spreads through your body and mind like waves, just gentle waves of peacefulness. Spreading through your body, all the parts of your body, the muscles, the bones, all your internal organs relaxing and calming down, relaxing deeply and peacefully.
Letting go of everything. So very peaceful, so slow, so relaxed, so relaxed. I'm going to count from 20 down to 1. And as I count from 20 all the way down to 1, not only will your mind and your body increase relaxation by twice as much with each number you hear, also that original part of your body that we focused on will really, really relax more than it's ever relaxed in the past.
Now, 20. Relax, 19. Relax, 18.
