And today is i forget what it is thursday throwbacks or was it throwback thursdays let's have a look it's thursday throwbacks throwback thursdays thursday throwbacks yeah it's thursday throwbacks and for the last two weeks rubbing my hands together for some reason for the last two weeks i have been doing tv shows from it's the 80s but i started in 1980 two weeks ago last thursday i did 1981 and today i'm gonna do 1982 1982 so what i need to do is go to check gpt and ask them to do exactly
the same as what they did last week what am i not prepared no i'm not sorry i'm not prepared oh there we go thursday throwbacks show so let's have a look 1982 that's all i'm gonna put in and see what it comes in oh okay so this week Let Me Bore You To Sleep thursday throwbacks moves forward to 1982 continuing your nostalgic tv series timeline and wow okay it's going to take a little while for it to all process so let's have a look and just want to say welcome to

from eastenders apps the the word icon i think is slightly overused these days and can sometimes use for people that are kind of new to the entertainment industry for those that watch eastenders and those i suppose over i don't know over whatever age anyone that was watching eastenders in the late 80s are pretty much going to remember angie watts angie and den so anita was angie watts and she wasn't even in it for very long but she made a statement and but they said like anita dobson anita dobson says that
she's content even with or without a husband and said there's one job she'll never do again so she wouldn't do pantomime um she won't be returning to pantomime stating that the money isn't a concern in the dobson may household i imagine it never was a concern for brian may a member of one of the most you know i mean i'm guessing he's always had some money in the bank this seems to be one of those yeah one of those non-stories about nothing it's really weird it's kind of some of the
newspaper stories are so ridiculously pointless uh well so yeah i might be in my bonnet apart from being a bit grumpy the night time the darkness outside taking video i just can't see where i'm walking even with lights i can't see very well i can't see what's around who's walking towards me i can't do it i can't go out there walking him when it's dark so he's gonna have to make do with going in the garden when it's dark in the communal garden i'm not going out walking him because i
literally i can't protect him from other dogs that might be off the lead and i just can't i just it's why it's winding me up really i'm turning to a grumpy as i said a bit of a grumpy bum but that's not even the thing that's winding me up the most it is but there's another thing don't worry this is not this is not going to be a an hour of me moaning it's just a little quick a little quick vent now those of you that know me maybe you listen
to me for a while you will possibly know that i love big brother the tv show love it i watch it every time it's on and i will watch it every time every time it's on for as long as it's on or for as long as i'm around because i'm dedicated on wednesday no tuesday night they had an eviction but they had a not an eviction they had uh nominations this was the night before but on tuesday night which was wednesday tuesday yeah tuesday they had a bonfire like a firework
party and they had a nomination so they had the show between nine and ten standard show talking about what happened yesterday showed the noms and then at the end of the show they said because they have another live show which is just talking about what's happened and with famous you know celebrity guests and previous big brother contestants and they said we can have an eviction live during this show they even have had a big countdown clock behind him will uh is it will best or will whatever a big massive countdown
clock and it was something like 14 minutes so i'm getting all excited thinking great they're going to show it no the way they were that but they didn't they had the countdown you heard the fireworks the cameras didn't move from the studio they said you're going to have to tune in tomorrow to find out who was evicted i could not believe now a lot's happened during my lifetime but that's i couldn't believe it i was shocked at just how gullible i had been i'm not an expert in communication i'm not
an expert in anything but i'm pretty sure that if that went to court and all that was shown that it would be classed as misleading that was misleading it was 1000 misleading and i'm pretty sure they did that on purpose and i'm still struggling to come to terms with it which makes me look ridiculous really wound me up it really did like what and then last night i had some of the strangest dreams strangest strangest dreams it was just weird this is after big brother so i watched big brother again
and i watched the eviction from the night before and went to bed about half 10 with the vinster he woke me up again early i was like oh why are you doing this this is twice in a week he's woken me up i mean we go to bed quite early fair enough but if i got to bed at 6 30 in the evening and he woke me up at three that's fair enough because he's we've had a full night's sleep but he normally needs 11 hours at least in bed and
i'm pretty sure he only woke me up because he wanted a t-r-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-t which i think is very cheeky of him to wake me up for that right i need to look and find out um when will it be dark it be dark sunrise and sunsets united kingdom it should be the same all around the country really i imagine apparently not that's very strange it varies depending on where we live oh and really i didn't know that i knew it depended depending where you live country-wise but i didn't think it depended
on where you live within the country i suppose it makes sense because the sun's moving around the uh the earth isn't it i suppose it reaches or it is kind of it moves around the earth once whatever during the day so it rises so let's have a look so i'm looking at right i'll go 26 miles away from where i am so 6 59 a.m it rises but in some other places like kingston upon the whole leeds it rises 7 16 720 in preston wow 730 edit in edinburgh 731 in
aberdeen so i didn't know that did i go to school i'm sure i must have i mean i went to school for at least from the age of 7 to the age of 15 so that's what i was very good at maths so what's 7 to 15 that's like 23 years or something so i you knew i was gonna do that didn't you i wasn't good i wasn't good at maths i wasn't i knew no i wasn't how strange in londonderry that's a different i mean it's a different island isn't
it but londonderry 743 that's a big difference isn't it it's like 44 minutes so where uncle uncle sausages used to live where he was born his sunrise would be 44 minutes after my sunrise so sundown is to be fair it might be a little bit different because where i'm living is 26 miles away so because i said the sun's moving around the the earth i'm in between that town and london which is sunrise is three minutes past seven so roughly about seven o'clock in the morning sundown sundown set sunset is
around 20 past four which means i need to be taking him out before that time so i'm only going to be taking vinny out between for example seven in the morning and four o'clock in the afternoon and after that or before that he'll have to go into the garden because i'm not taking him out in the dark anymore i've done that i'm not doing it i'm not doing it i think it's an eyesight thing because i don't remember having that issue you know a few years back i used to walk
around in the dark and didn't wasn't really that bothered but now i just can't i can't just my i need to get my eyes tested but yeah so there what was i going to ask okay when is the longest day so the longest day is longest day 2025 okay shortest day shortest day then okay i did go to school i did honest shortest day december the 21st oh wow so we're way off so that means it's going to be getting like the the there's going to be i mean nine hours
and 17 minutes of daylight but then after the 21st i thought it was like the beginning of december or near the end of november but the good thing about it when you think about it is about it about it it's now the 6th of november the 21st of november is a month and what three weeks away no a month and two weeks it's like six weeks and then the days will start getting lighter and longer and it'll be lighter earlier in the evening lighter earlier in the morning like it's exciting
isn't it i'm looking forward to it i'm trying to think of anything else that's happened vinnie's under the table doing his usual thing he's chewing on a thingy thingamajig he was moaning at me because i've got no treat to t-r-e-e-e i nearly said the word t-r-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-e-a-t-s i'll get something soon so oh some good news the i got um my electric and gas company sent me an email so i don't know if it's real or not that's the thing about it i think it is but i had a similar one basically
saying that they're giving they're giving me a warm winter discount uh so they're sending money to 150 pound for the winter they're sending directly the government to send directly into the um the gas and electric company so i don't see the money but it's sent directly to them and i didn't apply for it but i know that probably about two months ago i had an email saying to me it wasn't from my company but just saying it's like a governmental one it was either an email or a text saying if
you want to apply for your winter discount or winter fuel discount click here and it was a scam and i looked i realized it's a different email or different website address or you know like a dodgy email address like oh man so i'm not even a hundred percent sure that it's correct because i don't get any written stuff they don't send me any letters everything's by email i'm sure to start sending me letters if i didn't pay the bills but it's all direct debit so i can't really check it unless
i call them up and don't really want to be on the phone for hours waiting just to check that but it did have my account number on the email so and i looked back at some of the others emails i've received that said it was from them not necessarily the same email address but or text sorry text and it some of them they all had the same account number some of them had my actual home address on and some didn't so i'm just not clicking on anything i can't risk it
i don't i don't want to be uh opening myself up to the thing is they can't take i haven't got anything for them to take anyway but it's it's just it's a hassle isn't it it's someone wipes me out they're it's they're just not going to get anything as far as like financially but it's still it's not worth it having viruses or stuff like that on my phone although it's an iphone it's an old iphone but it's an iphone and they are pretty good i think security wise i think so
the reason they do that is because they they don't allow they don't like to allow other things on there like the not the inbred what they called the generic what they called the the non-apple phones where you can you got a lot more options and you can pretty much yeah you can do a lot more on them but at the same time you can also pick up a lot more viruses potentially my brother loves the uh non-iphones i think i think people just choose what works for them i mean for
me i'm not a phone user i do use a phone so i guess i am a phone user but i'm not uh it's not something that i i get super excited about it it's kind of just a catching up thing i get some phone calls not too many thankfully because i don't really like talking on the phone anymore um the odd text not many just you know i don't get a lot it's just really checking emails checking my stats checking our Facebook just things like that that i use the phone
for and i also use it when i'm in bed i use it to listen to music or to audiobooks on audible or i listen to my own podcasts or i listen to lbc radio at the moment it's only on a friday and saturday night at 10 o'clock the nick abbott show i listen to that on a friday and saturday if there's boxing on and i don't get to bed till like 11 or half 11 i'll just rewind the show and watch it from listen to it from the start but i've
been doing that for years but during the week and i'm not listening to i listened to the radio show because i want to listen to it and i was listening to it long before i got um vinnie but as far as listening to music or audiobooks in bed generally well not music i wouldn't listen to music normally unless it was just a little like mid afternoon nap or mid morning nap or mid mid afternoon nap or you know just after breakfast nap or just before dinner nap you know one of
the six seven naps i have a day and when we're in bed me and vinnie it doesn't matter if it's a nap or if we're going to bed properly i have to have music or something playing otherwise he'll just pick up on any sound whether it's in the building whether it's in the garden he just starts barking because suddenly everything's quiet and the only thing i can hear is generally like right now i've got the door closed i've got the window closed and i've got the curtain pulled over and there's
not a much sound not too much a sound going on in the garden which is good i can't hear anything right now there doesn't seem to be anything going on in the building now the second someone knocks on a door whether it's my door or someone else's door vinnie will start which is kind of it's just natural if someone i can't i don't tell him off if he knocks on someone knocks on our door because that's kind of his job isn't it to to protect me i suppose i don't know
and this is his home this is his palace kind of this is his this is his everywhere in this place is his and i'm not sure if it's because he's protecting the flat or protecting me or if he's just excited because it's a human and he really loves humans he loves them if i could have that amount of excitement at seeing humans as he does or to feel that kind of much i don't know to be that happy to see people that he is i think my life would have been
of much different i possibly would have been much more successful or it could have been misinterpreted as um just being the wrong way to behave possibly because you can't just like walk up to strangers and like start hugging them which is kind of the equivalent of what he's doing he'll run up to it if he can he'll run up to anyone it's like hello hello can we be best friends so yeah i've never really been like that no i don't want to be either but i'd like to be friendlier i
have to i do try i just can't do it at night because i can't see who's around even if it's someone that's walking towards me i mean someone did that the other day they walked right towards me through the field or through the park directly at me and i just stopped and moved back because i can't see who it is and it was completely dark there was like the the thing if they're walking around in the dark their eyes are probably accustomed to it and if they've got better eyesight than
me then they can see better than i can but my eyesight isn't so great so even if i get accustomed to the dark my eyesight's still not great you know it doesn't it doesn't i'm not a bat where my eyesight's better in the night time but bats are blind no they're not see who went to school now eh you thought bats were blind they're not nope i did until last week why do they say last week rather than last week that's something you get up north and they stress a different
word to here so i saw you last i saw you last week is what we would say here but in manchester they say saw you last week last week last week no wait a minute i saw you last week i might have got it wrong way around but they they put they put pressure not pressure or they kind of um not exercise emphasize that's it emphasize a different word not the wrong word but a different word to what we do up south or down south and i still don't know why
and i wonder if anyone else noticed it does anyone else has anyone else noticed that because i don't think you're not gonna i mean i imagine if you're if you're living in manchester you hear a southerner you're going to notice them emphasizing different words in the same sentence that you say surely i would think that'd be noticeable i do wonder i've got to be careful i couldn't do this one without sounding uh sounding like i'm being posh but if we were going to have teachers teaching people kids how to speak
shouldn't we shouldn't every kid every teacher that teaches a kid not have a regional accent like no regional accent just teach a child how to speak how to pronounce the correct words like bath not bath grass not grass the problem is if you say the word can't can and can't can can't right you can you can tell a difference between them even if they said quickly i can do that i can't do that but if you say i can't do that i can't do that i can't do that this quick
it's like you it's like you can or you can't because it sounds like you said you can also sound like it sounds like you said you can't because sounds the same i didn't quite get the t i can't do that i can't do that uh yeah i do find accents kind of interesting i don't wonder where they came from just find it strange that english is taught with an accent like to have no accent not a southern accent not a northern accent not did not newcastle not liverpool not scottish not
welsh just like okay maybe different countries can speak their own language but um in england like just i don't know like a is there any such thing as a non-accent maybe there isn't a b c d e f maybe like that i don't really have an accent i mean i'm clearly some people say well you're clearly a southerner okay fair enough but i don't really have all right mate you're white in it hey you get me i don't do talk like that and i've lived in suffolk i live near suffolk
and i've lived in suffolk and i don't go you know lad we're going downtown oh yeah but don't talk like that um i lived in newcastle i don't i used to have a newcastle accent when i was about six or seven but see i don't understand where that went because i've met people that have lived in england or lived in the south of england rather they've got maybe spent the first five six years in liverpool or scotland or somewhere with a really strong accent um and they never lose that accent
maybe it's because the parents at home have still got that accent so maybe the reason i didn't keep the newcastle accent is because neither my dad or my stepmom or any of my family had a newcastle accent because they're all from london or from the south and when then her parents were irish and everything but she had a london accent she was born in east london she was a cock a cock and a she was a cock and a so maybe that's why because nobody had a scottish newcastle accent but
one of my best friends at school was scottish he moved to england from scotland to probably when he was about i don't know 10 i suppose it's quite a long time to have a scottish accent maybe it was earlier than that and he kept that accent never never left him it probably did if he went up if he went back to scotland they probably did know like that he didn't have that you know what's happened to you you're english you're english now and he probably like what but then when i
met his parents his mum was from glasgow i think and his dad was from edinburgh two very different accents in fact with his dad i didn't even realize he was scottish because it's such a very soft accent compared to him and and his mum as far as scottish goes it's kind of just like oh that was so good though i loved his mum and his dad they're both brilliant his mom was so funny proper funny she was she had more personality than pretty most people i ever honestly so and he
was a cheeky little monkey as well not a dad him not his dad him my friend yeah he used to smile a lot he was quite a happy happy kid it's like never fake smiled always genuine smile so i made him laugh he laughed it was there's no fakery there and he had sisters i think they were twins i like to think they were twins and i loved them i think i asked them out a few times and they just laughed at me they thought i was like joking okay i
mean they were quite a bit older i think they were in their 20s when i was about 14 so yeah perhaps that wasn't the best time i still loved them he was quite lucky actually because he he was a boy and i think it was a three-bedroom house so the girls slept together like boys slept in the same room she had a room he got his own room because he was a boy and the parents slept together so he was kind of lucky because if had a brother he'd have been
the one sharing a room i guess do they have accents in other countries that's a genuine okay i know they do in america you know you got new york accent and you got the texan accent so you got new york he and from new york and you got the texan accent he are from texas but in places like norway or finland or germany or um i don't know like let's say european countries do they have different accents what about australia does australia have different accents like auckland and queensland do they
have different and um um other places today do they have different accents here's a question they're not to upset anyone but just there's the you know i've met a lot of people when i was in london and they'd be like the the amount of times i heard the sentence i'm a kiwi i'm not australian or i'm australian i'm not a kiwi i didn't understand what a kiwi was like why are you talking about fruit but then you know new zealand so i'm australia i'm not from new zealand and it seemed
to be i never said it as an offense just because i'd never i'd never met anyone from australia or from new zealand or from canada or from america or from any country before i moved to london the only people i ever met was someone from scotland the only i think the only indian people i ever met was those that worked in indian restaurants and the only chinese people i met was those that worked in the chinese takeaway um i didn't yeah i hadn't i mean in my memory i mean i
did when i was really young i did meet people from different places but you know in my kind of growing up years between 7 and 19 really i didn't really meet anyone i didn't i'd never met an australian or someone from new zealand and i suppose the question i had back then was okay so you're you're getting upset that i'm confusing you you know assuming that you're from one of the other places but you're not and i've had some other conversations said but we're miles away nowhere near each other well
how come the accent's so similar that's the thing how it does i've never quite understood that i mean something is a long distance but you're kind of you're closer than i am we're nowhere near australia yeah but compared to compared to germany or england or france you're pretty much on their doorstep i'd like to visit i wonder how long it would take to travel from australia to new zealand how long how long okay what is the miles how many miles many miles from australia to new zealand really okay if i
put in australia to new zealand 2 437 miles that is quite a lot in it to be fair um is i mean yeah it's not a huge i mean it is how long how long by car how long by car you can't do it by car can you the distance from australia to new zealand varies depending upon the starting point but generally it's about 2160 kilometers 1340 miles from sydney to auckland oh is auckland not in here oops um travel by car the estimated driving time four four to five hours
see that doesn't make sense the only reason i'm saying that okay right how can you do it by car this is a this how i mean first of all let's say four hours so if you're traveling at four miles four in four hours so that's what i said three six nine twelve so you're traveling 300 over 300 miles an hour okay probably not flight duration three to four hours okay so yeah that's that's about the same yeah i think that's a fairly comfortable flight i've not done 12 hour flights i've
done six hour flights i've done shorter ones but i think four three to four hours is kind of it's it's not a long one is it i think i prefer to go by boat though if i'm honest because from australia by boat three to four days three to fourteen days see that i don't understand how can it take that long why that's a long that's a lot of days isn't it i mean three to fourteen it doesn't i mean that's that's a lot of wiggle room isn't it the distance approximately
while it's possible to drive how can you drive from australia to new zealand how is that even possible there's a big sea in between how can you drive it or is that a case you drive you get on the ferry you go over and you get off the ferry and you drive is that what they mean because how else no you can't drive no i don't think it's possible self-drive tours directions i'm gonna put directions so i'm gonna find this out what's this got to do with 1982 i just remembered

for years and years and years and years all the way up to i think even the 2000s maybe i don't know for a long time saturday morning tv was fun for everyone i mean yeah technically it was aimed for kids but it was also fun for adults because when for example anton deck had it they did the saturday morning with cat dealy it was funny they were funny so that it was it was just funny for everyone and anyone that you know maybe thinks oh and in deck why are they
on tv and perhaps they think it's very kind of same-ish the same kind of stuff and the same adverts and the same tv shows they do but in the 90s them together with cat dealy were really good in my opinion very funny some of the funniest stuff on tv was them on a saturday morning and they're having a right old laugh so let's have a look oh and then saturday morning vinny's just done a let one rip let one rip wow uh then and i don't know why this happened i
couldn't tell you exactly when it happened but saturday mornings became cookery shows cookery shows on a saturday morning instead of kids you know like a a funny musical show with music guests and comedy comedy you know i mean like cartoons and just fun cookery shows and i think i mean yeah i don't know i found it to be a shame because i don't want to well i don't want to watch a cuckoo show ever like ever just for no cookery shows on a saturday morning and it's really weird you know
i remember like the turn of the century yeah it was a turn of the century always yeah i think it was and i remember the newspaper saying reality tv is going to be a thing and technically big brother kind of started that a bit really i'd say and then we started having the the talent shows they kind of arrived in 2001 i think and then was shipwrecked and then a few others and then one after another they became more prevalent and the whole kind of um i mean it happened it
wasn't just in the uk it happened in america as well probably canada australia i'm not sure when it happened but there's a lot of shows i didn't get to see like the cardassians um below deck i've seen a few of those but it got to the point where there was so many like so many so much for good i really i really enjoyed um what was his name the bounty hunter is it dog the bounty hunter i like that and then there was another one the he used to go and
collect vehicles i can't remember his name but they were both very similar i think dog the bounty hunter was based in hawaii and the other bloke was oh re recoup or re re up or re something and it basically it was funny it's just really funny it was both the shows are funny and that one was funnier than dog the dog he was a bit more serious but he was also compassionate because he was a bounty hunter and he was he seemed like he wanted to help people i got a
little bit addicted to those two tv shows for a while and then there was the porn i quite like the porn one um was it called porn shop uh which is about uh but it's about a porn shop it was mr gold and i used to watch that we've gone ahead in time though haven't we so we need to go back to 1982 so let's have a look at some of these shows i suppose these are major debits debuts so ones that hadn't been seen before we know what debit means
alo alo which is on bbc one and piloted on the 30th of december 1982 and it was basically a wartime sitcom parody so that was the that was the pilot but the full series was 1984 according to this i used to watch it but at the same time i didn't it was at a period when i would watch absolutely anything like any thing and i do mean anything there's nothing i wouldn't watch on tv 1982 so i'd you know i would i'd watch it if it was on i didn't really
like wartime stuff just i just yeah not really my thing but i did watch it the young ones now this was for those that don't know what it is you could maybe check it on YouTube it was a tv show i've talked about this before it was uh four students living in a house completely chaotic from beginning to end and like you had mike who was like the sensible one he was about three foot tall you had rick rick mouse or rick you had um oh blimey adrian or adrian is
it adrian no viv was it viv who is like a punk vivian vivian vivian adrian adrian no rick so rick vivian mike and the oh blimey he was a he was a hippie what was his name anyway he did a t he actually had a song called the there's a hole in my bucket and it stayed like say hey heavy man stuff like that it was very popular but it was on bbc too and i'm sure it was on about nine o'clock so i managed to get to watch it anyway
or maybe it was on 8 30 maybe it was on at eight what was his name neil neil neil was the hippie yeah um i'll feed the same pet i did also have on the young ones that have a musical guest every week as well uh the one the only one i really remember were two bad manners and um madness off off v the same pets i watched this solely because my old oldest brother watched it he really liked it now there was a few geordies altogether not all of them
were geordies but um they were working in germany i guess it was kind of um rebuilding the place and stuff in uh yeah it was in the i don't know if it was set in the 60s or 50s i'm not 100 sure but it was i think no i think it was in the earlier it was set where it was set like in the 80s and there was a period when a lot of uh english builders would go over to germany and work i'm not quite sure why but that was
that was a thing back then and it was good it was there was camaraderie rivalry and it was funny it was gritty it was yeah it was like a mixture of all kinds of things and yeah and they all all the actors kind of went on to do well i mean one one unfortunately passed away but the rest well two but the one's still going strong blindly still doing stuff all these years later he doesn't even look any different and later on they kind of brought it back where they were
in australia and pat who was uh he was a famous wrestler but he was like in the show huge man he he did a show and he was actually ill in real life and he was ill in the show as well and it was just quite quite um emotional to watch it actually because it's one of those tv shows that became i don't know what the right word is but very very popular for those that loved it like will always remember it like one of those kinds of shows and very
different from anything else really i would say open all hours that was a new run returning for series three so that's something we talked about last week heidi hi although we mentioned it it reached its peak in popularity in 1982 i remember it being on a i'm sure it was on a sunday night maybe it was a saturday night i just i remember watching it and it was just fun it was fun it's really just light-hearted fun and play your cards right uh so that's just these aren't major debits these
are continuations i think play your cards right higher higher lower lower that's bruce forsyth they should they still show old episodes well they have to be old episodes but they still show episodes of that from the past has to be from the past and for such a simple game it was good but brucey and again if you don't know who bruce forsyth is he was a legend a legend like been around for 300 years i think brookside so i watched brookside when it came out and then i revisited it later
on so it was on channel four it was their very first soap opera soap at the time we had coronation street on itv we had emmerdale farm on itv we i think we still had crossroads again might be an itv i can't remember and that i do believe is all of the english soaps i might have missed something out eastenders was not on yet and so yeah i think that was it brookside i've probably mentioned it but it's uh it was based in liverpool very gritty very gritty but really good
it was um unlike anything i'd really seen before and as i said i watched it and then it wasn't really till about 1987 that i got back into and i got really into it because it was some of the storylines were just ridiculously exciting maybe maybe it's sad but that i found them like wow and uh yeah it hasn't been on for a long time um but it was really good there was there was the the returning bad boy like they have in soaps and yeah it was really good there
was some really strange storylines i'm just remembering some of them that that deserves an episode all of its own just brookside maybe i'll do that maybe i'll actually i do um a season of these thursday throwbacks where i just talk about soaps and some of the storylines but the thing is they're not usually nice storylines you know i mean so i don't know if it should be something i really want to be talking about um countdown never liked countdown still don't like countdown started november no uh yeah second of november
1982 on channel four first ever show on channel four wow and part of the reason i don't like it is because well first of all it involves do they call them conundrums so it's just a bunch of words and you have to make a word out of it and it's just not not something it's not how my brain operates i don't know what i don't know why i just i don't find that interesting um and this is a it's a very it's definitely a very boring show to watch it's a
very it's a relaxing show to watch i don't find it relaxing so why did i just say it's a relaxing show what i mean by that is it's calm no one's shouting there's no one you know everything's very calm it's almost like it's being recorded in a library you know but at the same time um i don't like to think when i'm relaxing i try and like work out the what a word means when it's muddled up that's that's just not relaxing to me um and that used to be on
five days a week around 4 30 maybe 5 30 it used to be on when i got home from work 1991 1992 1993 all into halfway through 1994 i'd get home from work and that was on and it just yeah didn't i can't stand it i really don't like it oh i can't watch it so yeah it's just not my thing the the tube youth music show debuted november 1982 time tease so that's uh newcastle the tube i used to watch that yeah i used to watch it was on a
music show i think then you got treasure hunt oh dear so treasure hunt was basically it was a cameraman and it starred annika rice's bum and and anyone that might think well that's a bit uh it's a bit rude to say it's true and annika rice is a beautiful woman but the camera was focused on her bum pretty much the whole time and she was running around trying to get clues to find the treasure and she'd be in and out of a helicopter and the camera honestly it would just i
mean nowadays i wouldn't even have a camera person they would just probably have the camera attached like you know to her but that and she became famous nationally because of that tv show and i wanted to see more of her face because i said i really i think she's like um icelandic or something i think was she was she icelandic i loved her that's all i'm saying annika rice let's have a look annika rice it's weird strange she's uh i didn't realize she's so much older than me she's 67 i
mean i was fantasizing about her when i was 12 she was mind you back then she was only what when i was 12 she was 23 so not like she was old is it but she where was she born wales i thought so i thought she looked foreign how silly of me fame i want to live forever i want to learn how to fly high right so fame american show it uk first aired 1982 again it might have been on a lot earlier than that in america i loved fame i
did everything about it just loved it the music the singing the dancing the storylines which were quite serious at times everything about it loved it brilliant i watched every episode and i was completely satisfied full ticks from me i still like the song you know the main song for that you got police squad see show imported 1982 i didn't see police squad till about 1989 and it was the funniest tv show i'd ever seen in my life so funny and can't get it can't find it it's not not available online
to watch to stream nothing it's just not there and i know that you know the naked gun was you know based on the files from police squad or whatever but the actual tv show can't find it i can get clips on YouTube but i want to watch the whole thing and they used to show it in 1989 on tv probably bbc too according to this and it's so funny it's really funny i mean it was it was similar i guess to well it's going to be similar to airplane because it
was from the same creators and the same writers and that was the show that that was the movie that i've pretty much found to be the funniest movie as well well airplane and the life of brian those two watched them both on the same day in about 1982 83 oh my goodness so funny so night rider premiered 1982 instant cult hit and rightly so it was brilliant love night rider i mean what what what what's there not to love it was perfection no that's a that's the wrong show got a
northern accent now night rider so yeah brilliant show great i mean yeah it was just yeah it had everything i mean it had a car didn't have everything but it was i'm sure it used to be on midweek though it was never like a saturday night show but it was very popular with me anyway uh cheers oh if there's those who don't know about night rider it was basically an impenetrable car indestructible and michael night was private detective was he i think so yeah he's uh so good it was brilliant
then you got cheers imported for america began late 82 channel 4 so i didn't start watching that till about 83 84 probably 84 they actually show it late at night so i don't know why that annoyed me sometimes because some of the best shows from america were shown at silly times here uh for example in about 1990 i first discovered seinfeld and it was on i think half 11 at night on bbc2 arguably the biggest sitcom one of the biggest sitcoms in american tv history and we get to see it
at 11 30 on a wednesday night and it's like what's that about maybe maybe the tv people didn't think that britain would appreciate it it's weird though because channel 4 always embraced the american sitcoms cheers used to be on on a friday night about nine o'clock but then we'd also have you know over the years we'd have rosanne the golden girls you name it loads of american sitcoms were on on a friday night it used to be like eight or nine half an hour each and that was the really that
was the peak time what was it nine to ten i think it was eight or nine there might be nine to ten but that was the peak like friday night always went to channel four on a friday night for some reason seinfeld wasn't on they didn't sort of pick it up maybe they out they might have charged too much or maybe the bbc2 bought the rights and they wouldn't let channel 4 have it naughty people and then we've got here the comic strip presents which is a bunch of comedians and
the people from the young ones and other other shows like the new alternative comedians and they did some funny funny like they'd be like one-off movies you know tv films really and then you've got fraggle rock the pilot i loved fraggle rock loved loved loved loved loved loved loved it i watched it let the music play down at fraggle rock and my other impression from from fraggle rock is the trash heap has spoken loved watching that now admittedly probably wasn't aimed at me but i watched it with my little brother
and i also watched it in the 90s when i was an adult on the saturday morning he used to be on loved fraggle rock i did um boone that's another show i used to like to watch it was 1982 pilot i really liked boone he was like a delivery courier motorbike courier and i'm not going to say it was a tv show about nothing because that would be rude to the writers obviously but i don't remember really much in the way of what the storylines were i just know i liked
it michael elfick i think his name is and i just like watching him he was just fun he was nice to watch he was yeah now i'm just looking at the continuing shows so 1982 1982 right the russ abbott madhouse debited may 1982 on itv now basically russ abbott used to be he kind of was the assistant or the sidekick or i don't know what the correct word would be but he would be on the freddy star show on saturday nights and in 1982 he's got his own tv show which
i do believe was on a saturday night and it was funny and i loved him yeah we had quite a few comedy shows on at this time so uh like weekend comedy shows you've got the two ronnie's heidi hi the kenny everett television show yes minister although i didn't really used to watch that i got a vague memory that terry and june would be on midweek and so was butterflies and vague memory that yes minister would be on midweek as well and also minder would be on on like a thursday
night the russ abbott madhouse cannonball and the two ronnie's would be in on a saturday night or at least at the weekend russ abbott definitely on a saturday night i would say cannonball also saturday night yeah two ronnie's saturday night as well although i've got a vague memory of the two ronnie's being on on a sunday night heidi hi i remember that being on a sunday night but again i might be wrong so there's quite a lot of comedies there plus obviously the the american sitcoms or american comedy shows as

triangle boys from the black stuff out of all of those dramas or soaps well out of the soaps the ones that i remember most would be coronation street and crossroads i've never really bothered what yeah i mean coronation street at the top i watched yeah i probably didn't watch crossroads at this time in 82 and unlikely i would have watched it in emmerdale either juliet bravo was a police show i remember the name i don't remember the show and bergerac i'm pretty certain used to be on on a sunday and
that was based in like an island called bergerac it was it was nice and in tenko ironically bergerac the actor couldn't get citizenship there which is weird because he's who made he's made it more famous than anyone else is it sicily or something the the island and you got tenko never watched that i don't remember all creatures great and small it didn't really appeal to me but i didn't know it's funny see the books are funny and i didn't know that had i known that i probably would have watched the
tv shows play for today and i can't remember so oh the gentle touch there's a lady who's a detective and i just remember one particular scene i can't tell you what it was but it was um it was rude it was a suspect that was saying something rude and i just yeah that's the only only thing i remember it was very dramatic it wasn't it wasn't much uh much humor in that one the bill still today even though it's been off the air for a long time one of my favorite
tv shows loved the bill however i don't know if i started watching it then i remember watching it in the 90s and even the 2000s maybe late 80s but i don't remember watching it in 82 one by one veterinary drama so yeah i don't remember that one i might have watched it but don't remember it triangle infamously bad soap triangle wait a minute is it about the bermuda triangle because if it is i loved it i probably really loved it but it didn't wow wow okay shall i read out the
synopsis for it triangle is a bbc teller apparently it's really bad i mean i probably liked it and triangle is a bbc television soap opera broadcast in the early 1980s set aboard a north sea ferry that sails from felixstowe to gothenburg and gothenburg to amsterdam a third imaginary leg existed between amsterdam and felixstowe to justify the program's title but this was not operated by by the ferry company the scripts involve cliche relationships and stilted dialogue making the show the butt of several jokes particularly on terry wogan's morning radio tube program
um yeah i thought it was because i'm pretty sure there was a tv show like a drama based around the bermuda triangle which i loved maybe if possible it was called the bermuda triangle it's just a it's possible and maybe it's later on so children's tv postman pat never really bothered with postman pat i mean you know i was 11 turning 12 so wasn't really aimed at me but i don't think i ever was particularly interested in postman pat's adventures grange hill this is when grange hill was at its peak
peak grange hill 80 82 83 81 82 83 time peak there was yeah it was a famous tv show and for those yeah i should explain it's based in a school called grange hill i didn't realize till i moved to london that there was actually a place called grange hill it's not just made up and yeah the the a lot of the a lot of the actors in that show went on to do a lot more of the stuff uh appeared in like eastenders or coronation street or the bill or
you know just loads of things so it was it was kind of i suppose state from yeah because they were all kids so they yeah it was good was it mccluskey mrs mccluskey was the head teacher and then i had the french teacher who was really horrible which is weird because we had a similar kind of french teacher at my school and so you had blue peter i watched blue peter but again i was a little bit too old for it at this point wasn't really bothered by it wasn't really
too interested more kind of when i was nine ten probably why don't you wow now why don't you was a tv show on bbc one but they only showed it during summer holidays or maybe during the holiday time when the kids were off on holiday and i used to watch it with my little brother and it was a song the song started it why don't you i'm not going to sing with her why don't you why don't you why don't you do something different instead instead of watching television whatever so
it was quite weird there was a tv show telling kids to go outside and do something else rather than watch television and yet it was a television show but it was good it was like run by kids what you know it was presented by kids and they were just doing kids stuff like crafts and arts and stuff like that and i watched that all the way out to probably 86 with my little brother i used to like watching the kids programs with him on a saturday morning and probably 83 84
or maybe 84 there was a certain period when i was looking after him during the holidays because both parents were working so i was literally that was my job for five days a week which was a bit now so it was what it was but i kind of ended up watching a lot of kids programs and blue and what am i doing me me me me me saturday superstore okay so that that replaced swap shop rainbow i don't was saturday was saturday if i can say the word superstore mike reed
isn't it weird if that's true my memory sometimes is quite good isn't it i wonder if it was mike reed i'm gonna google that and find out oh my goodness ah who's it prevented by prevented presented by mike reed and sarah green keith chagrin john craven cheggers keith chagrin if ever there was a legend cheggers was a legend he's no longer with us but he was absolute legend um hard to explain you know you get these people that just they shine he's shone he was yeah he he was on tv
i mean he was born 1957 67 77 so he was like nearly 20 when he was when i was seeing him on telly early hours in the morning i wonder when he started doing television now because he did tv his last thing he ever did was 2011 and he yeah six years later he he was gone so it was and it was really funny oh i know he did stuff when he was little he did he did he did so why are they doing this why have they not got the
stuff he did in 1977 filmography they've missed out a load a lot of the stuff he played himself in a lot of stuff from 2000 all the way to 2011 he played keith chagrin no wait a minute apart from one thing so one two three four five six different shows he played keith chagrin and he also he did this one show um let's have a look there was a tv he should he did okay it was in the 90s maybe it's not in the 90s maybe it's oh okay right are
you ready for this in the 90s so he was a star in the 70s late 70s 80s and then he kind of wasn't around for a while he did stuff in that but then he became like a outside broadcaster on the big breakfast which was launched in 93 i think and he was brilliant he used to run around knocking on people's doors at half seven in the morning and giving them prizes and you know asking questions and stuff oh he wasn't the first to do it was he no it was
um mark lamar was the first to do it i think i think it was mark lamar outside down your okay yeah i think mark lamar did it first i'm losing track unless keith chagrin did it first and then mark lamar took over i'm pretty sure when did it launch it was lock keepers cottages because i've been there i went there to watch a the filming of a different tv show and i've been inside the cottage like bit because they had like a little buffet going on there for the for the
audience okay launched on 28th of september 1992 and presented chris evans and gabby rosalyn and then so it became really popular really quickly mark don't know what's it going as part of this kind of evans right down your doorstep presenter i'm very confused why they're not even talking about they're not even mentioning mark lamar why not why they're not mentioning mark he was on it right from the start i'm pretty sure he was the big breakfast so let's have a look co-presenters main anchors so a lot of a lot of
people wow kelly brooke and chris evans gabby poros mark little keith chagrin he hosted it for one year so he bought so really the two main couples like the two main presenters that when it was at its peak because it hit its peak twice chris evans and gabby rosalyn so they were together between 92 and 94 when chris evans left and did don't forget your toothbrush and tfi friday and stuff like that and then gabby rosalyn stayed and had a few people she left in 96 johnny vegas took over in
97 with denise van ooten in 97 together till 2001 and they became became really popular again like really popular because he was well together it was just the chemistry and dennis van ooten started out as the eye in the sky weather reporter or was it a news reporter and she'd be in a helicopter talking about either it was the weather or the news and she'd be cheeky and it was how weird is that they have not mentioned mark lamar at all it seems very strange that they wouldn't paul tomkinson was
he was hosting it between 2001 2002 i used to know paul tomkinson yeah he was a comedian i used to know him richard bacon was there 1999 to 2002 they've missed out quite a few people because what's his name there was a really famous comedian that was on there for a while and i think he got sacked for being naughty co-presenters sarah cox always liked sarah cox yeah like right from like the early 90s just liked her she's funny really funny oh okay here we go innovations mark lamar keith chagrin

uh our voices you know that was actually calling him up because bob geldof phoned him up and said uh i think he's he said oh do you want to um would like to interview you like invite you to an interview for a new tv show called the big breakfast and at this point mark lamar wasn't famous and he thought it was just one of his friends who was uh like i know someone like steve coogan or someone like that that was pretended to be what's his name and then mark lamar
started working on the word at kind of pretty much the same sort of time so he was on two big shows on both on channel four i think yeah blimey just make just just takes me back i used to like it the thing is because i used to go to work in a job that i can't say i hugely enjoyed it was cold and it was you know it depends where i was working but you know there's a certain amount of time i was working in a very cold environment and
just even if i only got half an hour of the big breakfast that lively energy was a nice start to the day a nice little boost especially in those days you know early mornings was not my thing now i'm i'm up early every day but back then i wasn't i'm just going back to these children's tv shows rainbow i used to watch rainbow when i was little but not 82 unless my little brother was watching it now i didn't know tis was was even still on there was the final year
in 82 so you won't hear about tis was again pipkins i don't remember that button moon i've got a vague memory of button moon so the one they just kind of i can't do the sounds but it was like very weird sounds very moony kind of then you got danger mouse the first full series 1982 so you've got del boy as danger mouse and you've got terry scott as penfold brilliant love danger mouse loved it i mean i watched it i pretended i was watching it for my little brother but
i loved watching it myself because at this point my brother was how old was he he was born in 1978 yeah so is he six 78 8 9 90 no 78 79 80 81 82 so he's 82 so four years old he was old enough to to enjoy danger mouse chock-a-block don't remember that one these are the kids programs super ted oh super ted yeah i liked super ted music's the top of the pops i mean it's again one of my all-time favorite tv shows that i would watch pretty much
every week for decades it's not on anymore i don't know why the old grey whistle test on bbc too they used to be on i think like midweek or friday or something later on at night and it was very yeah it wasn't it wasn't really pop music it was more kind of a serious music show i didn't watch that i just watch it and it just reminded me of the 70s just seen very like early 70s the way they presented it and i just don't know why then you had the
tube channel 4 youth music show launched 1982 i don't remember it i don't rock school prototype music educational programs begin no don't remember that the south bank show okay that the south bank show was mervin something or other griff mervin or mervin griffin or griff griffin mervin he was like an art show so he'd interview famous actors artists of all kind writers composers he'd go you know he's just it was very arty pretty much and sometimes i'd watch it but generally it went a bit but went over my head a
little bit i think current affairs and news so news night bbc2 didn't watch it panorama generally panorama would focus on a particular thing but i didn't watch that either really wasn't interested in 1982 with the news not really nationwide no world in action not really weekend world no channel 4 news no i just really wasn't that interested to be honest in the news you know i'd kind of keep track of roughly what was going on but it just it just seemed more of the same really not every day so nothing's
changed a sport match of the day uh i mean this there's nothing launched in 1982 it's kind of the same stuff so i thought pop black i really thought pop black was the thing with steve davis but i think i must be wrong it wasn't was it it was a snooker tournament so steve not steve davis um what's his name a comedian not ben davis not steve davis oh it's it's it's it's uh pop black dave davis i'm sure it's david david right it's a snooker show so snooker snooker virgo
i remember the co-host snooker jim davidson see that's before i i got it up oh big break why was i thinking it was um pop black so big break was a bbc game show based around snooker aired from 91 to 2002 attracting a 14 14 million viewers at its peak with former snooker player john virgo it was just funny really i think it's the best thing he ever did on tv it was funny him and john virgo were like a natural double act you could see there's no rehearsing there was
no it was just ad-libbing just funny great show really funny and i didn't even i wasn't interested in snooker really it's weird to be able to watch a tv show about a sport and not be interested in the sport and still enjoy the tv program but i did with that and the rest of the sports just Wimbledon and all that stuff that's there every year um imported shows see this is the same stuff as before really like dallas peak popularity who shot jr so that's i don't think it'll ever i
know dallas is not anymore but it never reached that peak i think maybe um when jr when um bobby ewan he had his moment in the in the sun with the whole uh him going and then reappearing in the shower and stuff i don't want to spoil it for anyone but i'm i'm guessing that was one of the most watched episodes as well dynasty started showing in 1982 i thought it was in i thought we talked about it last week so debuts uk air in 1982 hill street blues premieres 82
critically acclaimed that was bbc one i thought that was on see this is not true this see i now know right dynasty was not on bbc one it was on itv so they've got this wrong hill street blues i'm pretty certain was on channel 4 or bbc 2 magnum i think was on itv night rider was definitely on itv so hill street i really liked hill street blues in fact if it's available to stream i quite like to watch every episode through because it was really really good and night rider

there's still going to be a lot of stuff that okay right so let's have a look it's uk tv shows yeah so there's about 81 so i'm i'm doing 82 on it obviously 82 i just want to go back because what did i say that was definitely on i'm pretty sure that dallas dallas dallas dallas dallas dallas dallas dallas dallas dallas yeah itv see last week i said dynasty was itv dallas was bbc one how strange they would say that i remember because as far as i my recollection is dallas
and dynasty were kind of pitted against each other but at the same time they didn't put them on at the same time like at the same time slot but they would be on on the same night so it'd be a case of watching dallas and then turning over for dynasty or the other way around yeah i remember much more about dallas than i do dynasty i know that joan collins was in dynasty so there's that but and i know that both tv shows were just full of stupidly rich people like
really really rich people which is something that i think it appealed to the uk audience because it's almost voyeuristic i suppose to just see people living that kind of lifestyle where they're living in big mansions and you know the watch around their wrist is worth more than all their belongings you know they're that they own the kind of you know the the average person so yeah it's like wow but dallas i don't know maybe it's because it got there first but i think it's more to do with jr jr he
was all pam as well i absolutely i was in love with pam ewing and also the man from atlantis who pam pam ewing was married to jr's brother i was going to say he was the famous one before because he was in a man from atlantis technically you could say yeah but if you go back to the 60s jr ewing was in is it i dream of genie or was it bewitched one of those he was in when he was a much younger man i dream of genie or bewitch i
think of those shows together the same way i do the monsters and the adam family very similar kind of settings and i don't know how to you know kind of yeah similar but then you've got i dream of genie bewitched both like magical with a husband who doesn't want anyone else to know about her we've got to hide this from everyone else and bewitched her mum kept appearing i dream of genie i'm not sure if she had a a sibling that kept coming but like a mother or anything but yeah
i don't actually think they're quite similar similar shows i like them more i really did and they used to be on because they were from the 60s they would be on on a in the early 80s like bbc2 around six o'clock so or maybe five so you have something like i dream of genie bewitched and then star trek the original series at six and then maybe before that you know between half four and five monkey or something you know it was kind of just it was those kind of shows like
alice was another one that used to be on i think they used to be on bbc2 so a lot of old or older american sitcoms and stuff used to be on on a bbc2 and they'd show because the the seasons had finished you know they'd like years old maybe they were from the 70s or 60s they would just show one after another like every day they'd show another episode and because alice wasn't that based in a diner and al was it al alf was the the bald bloke in charge who
was the chef was it alf's diner or al's diner let me go and it wasn't alice like a single mum alice tv show 1976 so let's have a look who was in that levine was it levine i don't know so linda levin love it oh so the tv show is called alice so look who's the the characters so linda levine was alice okay is it weird that i thought levine vick taback mel not alf mel he reprises his role role from the film wow so who's the lady that was always
