Hello and welcome to... Let Me Bore You To Sleep. Please only listen when you can safely close your eyes. My website is jasonnewland.com and today is Q&A Friday.

I don't have a jingle. I don't have a jingle. I hope to one day have a jingle.

I also hope that Vinnie in the background is gonna eat his dinner which is just on the side. Look it is. Hey, you can eat your dinner Vinnie.

Vinnie you can have your dinner. It's right to the side of you. You're a good boy aren't you? Yes you are.

You can have your dinner. It's so cute the way he does that. You can have your dinner.

Have your din-dins Vin. Please for daddy. I can't even.

Oh no he's got something more interesting to focus on. Okay I'll move over here just so you can see him. So it is Friday the 7th of February 2025 and I've actually did a recording earlier.

It took ages to process. It's I think like one a day is enough. It's just the time it takes but you know I don't know.

It's 25 past seven. Realistically I don't know if this will be uploaded before tomorrow morning because apart from the fact I'm feeling a little bit peckish now. Yeah I think it's gonna be one of those situations where I'll record it tonight and then I'll upload it and process it and edit it and all the stuff that goes into it.

All that backdoor stuff or behind the scenes stuff. That's what I mean you know. Well yes it's quite a lot.

The administration. So I did one earlier called it was ASMR sleep or deep sleep whisper hypnosis number 519 and it's called confused to sleep and it lasts the one without music you know the standard recording lasts for 46 minutes 32 seconds. So it's fairly long and it's hard to say that without smiling because I'm a child.

Have I got any emails? Nothing. Right. Other than that my website is jasonnewland.com. That's where my podcast lives.

All the latest recordings are on there and I've also got a Facebook group called Jason Newland's Boring Group. Please join and it's a good place to ask me questions for Q&A Friday. So usually on a Wednesday maybe Tuesday usually on about a Wednesday I post you know thing any questions for Q&A Friday and I put the date of when the next one is and this week I got it wrong I was putting down the 6th of February and I realised today it's not the 6th it's the 7th.

So hey that's all right. Anything else going on? Well I did my second jiu-jitsu class last night. Ouch ouch ouch ouch.

I was planning yesterday I think I said this on Wednesday. Oh yeah Wednesday was my DNA test results wasn't it? My ancestry DNA test results. So I was doing that because I did say that I was gonna as soon as that came through I would do a recording about that which I did.

Waited long enough for it and then because if it hadn't been for that I would have done or talked about the jiu-jitsu class that I'd attended the night before. So on Wednesday I said oh tomorrow thinking about Thursday which was yesterday I'll talk about it. And then yesterday I wasn't sure if I was going to go back it's yeah I wasn't sure I mean it's I'm having to get taxis there which is just expensive and and I know it's my health and it's in the evening once I've done the month's course I can go during the day and maybe then it'd be easier to get there and back.

It's just I think I was looking for an excuse not to go back because it's not it's hard simple as that it's hard it's not easy it's not supposed to be easy but I was a little surprised that just how unfit I was cardiovascularly now I'm fairly well I said I'm fairly strong I'm probably average strength for my body whatever yeah I'm not super strong but I'm not super weak either I guess I'm just fairly just for my size I'm got a bit of strength a little bit which does that

that was quite nice I could feel that because wrestling with someone well it's not it is kind of wrestling isn't it cuddling and anyway I've got a lot to say about that but I won't talk about it now because I've got questions to answer so now that I've done two recordings because yesterday I wasn't going to go back I was in bed at half past four in the evening or the afternoon and I had to be there for 6 30 and like I've done so many times in the past I

was just just gonna just move on and forget about it and then I started thinking you know what okay I'm aching like my body is aching not just my back just my lower back my chest my arms my knees you know I'm aching a lot because of all the crouching about and being chucked about and stuff but I don't know one of my tics one of my little you know lifetime achievements that I've wanted to do that I've wanted for a long time even when I wasn't even interested in martial

arts or I mean it's Brazilian jiu-jitsu it's not really a martial art but it's you know I'm not quite sure how the historical uh lineage is for jiu-jitsu but the idea of getting a black belt has always been something that I wanted but over recent years especially the last 10 years I'm just like no this is not going to happen but I still wanted it and two of my ambitions in life was to get a degree which I did and I really didn't believe I could do that and I did

and getting a black belt which I didn't but I did multiple different I don't know if you want to call them sports or styles whatever you know I did karate at school for two years I did what did I do Wing Chun for about a year I did praying mantis kung fu in London for a little bit but only briefly and boxing I did taekwondo for a couple of years so I've done karate and taekwondo were the only ones that I ever graded in and I think I did about three

or four gradings in those both of them so technically I was on the way if I stuck out with the karate I'd be a black belt I don't you know as a kid I would have been a black belt probably by the time I was 18 maybe 20 yeah maybe 18 19 I probably would have been a black belt if I'd have continued from because I stopped pretty much when I was 15 or 16.

Taekwondo again I would have been a black belt a couple of years after I stopped maybe three years after I stopped because the person that started at the same time as me is now an instructor and he's been a black belt for for ages I think he's like second down or third down now so you know I'm thinking well this is kind of my last little slice of the pie my last slice of the pie as far as these kinds of combat things go you know based on my age my

my health my I don't know it makes sense to me I'm looking for a way a way to avoid doing it because it's hard oh seriously my back my back I'll tell you a good thing about it is before I went to the first lesson of jiu-jitsu I had a I had my arthritis pain in my lower back now I've got pain all over my back my whole back hurts so it's good it's taken away the the focus from there if anything it hurts more on the right hand side now

yay anyway Q&A Friday here we go let's have a look let's have a look see what questions are that's what I'm thinking maybe I'll do uh I'll talk about the jiu-jitsu on yeah maybe Monday maybe some I don't know at some point in the future maybe tomorrow so oh I didn't know this Kirk Douglas apparently Kirk Douglas owned the rights of One Flew Over a Cuckoo's Nest and Michael Douglas his son bought it off him wow blimey okay I won't read that I get it's so easy to get caught up

in um faith book stuff so let's have a look let's have a look jace what's my name oh yeah haven't had any new members to the Jason Newland's group for ages literally ages I mean if you look at the members it must be not well over a month the last new person well Aska's not there anymore why are you not there anymore new to the group me I was the last person to join uh Ashley so Ashley was the last person to join and that was three weeks ago for some

reason Aska isn't there it might be because she's not on Facebook potentially so that might be the reason and I hope you well if you're listening and I hope everyone's well so here are the questions let me have a look sometimes I do have a little look I do have a little look a little you know over the few days building up to the Friday I like it's like looking down the top of it I mean of of the computer like looking at a little just to see what's what's there

what what I'm going to be able to play with on Friday that sounds wrong bad bad analogy um see what the questions are but I don't like to spoil it for me because just like with my DNA results uh I received them on Tuesday about five o'clock and I didn't open them didn't open the email didn't open the thing to look at them and I so wanted to or or or but I didn't and I went to jujitsu and did all that and then Wednesday I opened it and I did

the podcast and I videoed it and actually it was all fresh and it was new to my eyes for the first time new for the first time didn't need both of those did we so Ing asks me do you remember parts of your comedy program could you give us a taste of it probably not um I remember I mean I remember bits but I was a little bit rude back then um okay block your ears this is one of my jokes I used to do in 1991 and it's it was

a silly but anyway this is what I used to say I used to used to be um someone came up to me the other day and they asked me does does sperm taste like fish I said I don't know I don't eat fish that that was one of my jokes um I can't remember where is it another one oh god I just don't want to lose my audience by because they used to upset people sometimes my opening line and I went downhill from there used to be uh I can't say

I can't do it I can't well I used to be um bearing in mind I was 20 years old so it's 34 years ago okay so don't don't have too much of a go at me I used to go and say have you ever ever gone to a massage parlor and found that your sister works there and then I get like an angry face I only one thing went through my mind discount and that was that was my first line um so as you can imagine it was uh kind of

a weird weird it's weird saying it out loud um it's weird then to be honest I can't think I had some I had a I had a Fred West joke it wasn't making fun it was there was this big okay it was a serial killer and it was like it it was horrible the situation but he basically he built tunnels under his house and it was just disgusting it's about 95 94 95 and I just said I'll imagine him in prison to probably make use of his building skills it's like

you know the guard will come up to and say hey Fred you and Tony have done a really good job with this new book case it's amazing where's Tony so is this because he yeah anyway it's it was it's about 30 30 31 years out of date it's because I wouldn't joke about things like that now but at the time I was young and dumb and didn't know I just didn't know I'm trying there must have been some clean jokes I had I did a joke about looking like the kid

from El Dorado because as a kid this game back in 1991 I used to have a ponytail and I used to talk about people mistaking me for the kid from El Dorado who was probably the same age as me maybe 60 he's probably a bit younger but we did have a little bit of a similar look and I think as I got to about 93 I started talking about not politics but stuff in the papers rather than just being rude so I got I'm not saying my humor was clever it

was just it just got a little bit more relevant and I would yeah I think my favorite way is when I was just myself and that didn't happen very often but when it did happen it didn't seem to matter what I said it just as long as I kind of knew as long as I had something to say and then I can just play around with it but those gigs and there wasn't that many of them but when it did happen I was it was very much like I don't know

like I was not floating but I was like I was connected in some way to something I don't know what I can't think of any jokes that are nice did I have any nice jokes no it's very much about and again I can't do that one either because that's about my granddad nope I just yeah none of it it was all a bit horrible really I guess I saw it's really weird I had a reputation and people used to moan and like but then other comedians would sometimes would nick my

material but they would present it better than me or they'd change it a little bit and it'd be a better joke and that's what this this bloke is a he works in America now and he used to be a comedy writer and then he became a comedy promoter and I knew him right from like 91 onwards and he used to say to me like you're rubbish at performing but some of the jokes are quite good but the performance is so bad that the you know if the jokes were tidied up

and presented properly you could be good so basically what we're saying is if someone else told my jokes in a completely different way they might work so yeah so that is I can't even remember because I'm pretty sure in about 97 I had started to do more I suppose I wish I had my books I wish I had my my comedy journals because I had carved thousands of pages and I used to write my jokes down and stuff and I haven't so I can't remember what I used to talk about

near the end I think it was pretty it was quite good though that was my personal opinion so yeah that's why I would never really play it I mean maybe one day I'll I'll get a recording and I'll clean it up a little bit not not clean it up but just try and get it to sound a bit better and if I could find find a little bit that might be listenable too I don't know I really don't know I mean if I was doing this when I was 20 doing

this I would I don't know I don't know what what I would be like it's really hard I don't know if I'd even be able to sit this long and talk back then I'm different to what I was then and which is how it should be really isn't it you know people say I'm never going to change I'm going to stay the same forever and forever and ever and ever well no you're kind of supposed to change stop sneezing he's been sneezing all day well twice where's he gone you see

that he's gone around the side of the settee what is he doing he's doing something he's trying to get me to turn around so everyone can see my big bald spot I won't fall for it Vinnie I won't what is he doing he's over there don't know what he's got over there that he's looking at so um yeah that's pretty much could you give us a taste of it okay it's not a very good taste of it but you know that's why I mean I went on stage I closed some

clubs down I mean little gigs little gigs in pubs sometimes literally the landlord will just stop the gig or wait until the end and say that's it you're not coming back anymore this is to the promoter to the person who was renting a room out so yeah oh well the weird thing about it is I mean not weird but I do understand I know I just wonder like why didn't anyone offer any help I didn't ask for any help so you know maybe you know I know I didn't have that

confidence to ask any of the other comedians for help but no one offered anything no one like someone who took me aside and said I mean I suppose that promoter did kind of saying that my material is quite good if I could get someone else to say something completely different I needed guidance mentorship that's what I really required and I needed training because I think some people have I guess when they're young they have a natural ability the thing is there's a lot of difference between being humorous off stage and

being humorous on stage or making your friends laugh and making people laugh on stage or making an audience laugh but some people can do both they can do they can do both of those things and then some comedians they're very much not funny off stage but amazing on stage and some are really funny off stage and not very funny on stage or not as funny on stage it's a weird I mean I think with the ones that are really funny on stage and when they're off stage they don't want to

be funny because it's their job it's I guess if you're a chef you go home you don't want to start cooking you know it's like you've had enough you've eaten you don't want to start cooking after doing it all day long yeah we got the idea okay yeah I gave it a go though didn't I that's the one thing you know I gave it seven years of my life so yeah I gave it a go I can't I didn't do it I mean as I as the years progressed I did

it less and less I should say probably the less I did it the more laughs I got that's just probably because I in reality the less I did it the less boos I got I was I was a little bit of a confrontational I guess when I first started and but my the reason being is because the kind of comedy that I liked at the time very much American style comedy like Sam Kinison Andrew Dice Clay George Carlin Richard Pryor and a lot of the really adult stuff and I guess

I wanted to be like Andrew Dice Clay persona wise not I was never into the the kind of stuff he did like race jokes and stuff like that but the persona of like standing there and I think I got myself a leather jacket and I had a hat like let's see if you know like just no I wanted to be like him but I wasn't like him but it was yeah I kind of wanted to have that aura that that attitude of like I don't care what I do what I

say and to be fair probably didn't really when I was in that mode I mean I remember someone said they came up to me after a gig once and I was at the bar just waiting to get myself a coke that's all I ever used to drink and a bloke said oi I didn't like what you said whatever it was about it was about something I just remember what it was about but it was about something and and I turned around and I said well I did it offend you he

said yes and I said well I don't give a to him laughed and just told me turn my back on him and just ordered my drink because I didn't care it was weird I had a bit of a bit of an attitude on me back then it's weird because I can't imagine being like that now because I'm not like that but then I was at the time I was up and down I was all there'd be times when I was really gentle and really you know it depended on my mood

and yeah anyway it's it's a long long time ago I bet you I bet you regret asking me now don't you so that's in thanks for your question Chris asks me you used to be boring now you're just moderately boring what changed see I'm not sure if that's an offensive question or not I'm not sure I'm gonna have a drink used to be boring now you're just a moderately boring what changed is that a similar thing to walking up to someone that you know and saying oh I've noticed the last

few times I've seen you that you're no longer smelly is it the same kind of thing or oh you've had your hair cut I'm glad you did that because before you looked like a tramp is it that kind of thing is that is that the kind of the the guy what Vinnie you got dinner there oh blimey you just snapped at me yeah you give me kisses I held his hand and he just went nip me then he started he licked my finger I can't do anything like if you want

to be part of this recording you can be Vinnie but right now I'm not going to bend over and pick you up because you'll just run away as soon as I go like that you'll run away so because he hasn't got his collar as well if he had his collar on because I always take his collar off I don't leave it on him he's indoors what Vin do you want to say hello to everyone do you want to say hello come in do you want to say hello Vinnie do you

want to say hello to everyone I used to be boring how far back are we going Chris how how far back are you talking like a few weeks ago a few months ago a few years ago because I've been doing this blimey quite a while now I started doing the let me boy the sleeps in was it March 2008 2009 10 11 2008 2018 sorry 1920 21 22 23 24 so it's coming up to seven years in about a month I can't believe I've been doing just one this one thing

of talking about nothing for an hour or whatever it's just wow I don't know I'm just moderately boring what changed maybe your boredom threshold changed maybe your boredom threshold is is kind of lifted a little bit so that you can put up with more boring stuff without being so affected by it I don't know I'm not sure and maybe it's because I never was boring and I'm not sure what it is I like to think I don't really think I'm boring anyway but the premise of this recording really or this

podcast was that everybody's boring when they're talking about something that they really enjoy talking about and the person listening has no interest in what they're saying that's boring doesn't mean the person's boring themselves but just you know someone could be an astronaut but if they're talking to a person that has zero interest in anything astronauty then even you know even if 99 of the population would find it interesting to talk to an astronaut and have questions I'm sure most of us probably would have a question for an astronaut but there's

going to be some people that would be like this is tedious man this is tedious I'd rather talk to a plumber and it might not be a put down and up of a plumber they might actually be interested in the whole techniques of plumbing I don't know so they might be into toilets I really don't know I'm not sure I mean Jackie answered this is when it's a question I know it's a question that I need to focus on because I've had two responses to this question on here Chris says

laugh out loud he's starting to keep me awake see I'm not sure what to make with these and then Ken says that's what I call dry humor and so I don't know I really really not sure and I don't know I hope that what I do is still sending people to sleep but there's also a different as was another aspect of these recordings which is to also be company as well and that was something that you know when I started this I didn't this isn't what I was trying to do

this talking the plan really if you listen to the very first recording it's almost a hypnosis recording but with a bit of chit chat and it's starting off a conversation just talking and then leading into a relaxation session and you know kind of moving into the talking a lot slower and maybe even entering entering ending by whispering that was how I envisioned this whole thing to be and as time went by I don't know I just started talking about my life just started talking about what's going on and what has

gone on and telling stories about my life and making stuff up and being honest mix it together so no one knows which which is which and then at one point I started having conversations with myself I don't know how that came about and that happens still but I just I let it happen organically I don't try and plan I never plan what I'm going to say in these recordings the only the only time I plan what the topic is going to be is if I'm doing a Q&A Friday I've got

the topics in front of me I've got the questions in front of me when I do something like the the yeah the DNA results that was I didn't know what I was going to say but I knew that that recording was going to be around that and if I do a sleep sleepy boring objects and that will be about a specific object even though I might you know go off onto a different subject as well hmm I mean maybe it's going in the wrong direction maybe I should go back to

how I originally planned this to be but I kind of don't know what it is anymore it's just it's just me talking about whatever I usually don't know what I'm going to talk about and sometimes you know I will actually have an idea you know something I want to talk about and end up talking about a completely different topic it's I just follow my mind where it goes I mean with these I don't do that quite so much yeah I've not followed my mind right now not externally anyway internally I

was oh so yeah I don't know I'm not sure am I less boring I'm probably is my voice less boring that could be a question maybe I'm not not as boring just to listen to as far as my voice is my voice more exciting now I don't really I'm not sure hmm the weird thing about it is the deep sleep whisper recordings are still you know the hypnosis stuff is still more popular than the Let Me Bore You To Sleep stuff generally especially on YouTube it's it's a weird one I

can't quite figure it out not completely not completely it's every you know I mean on YouTube I've got well I've done I've done quite a few recordings this week 20 is it this one okay one week so one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven so one how many videos were made just like that haven't one two three four five six seven I've done seven videos seven actual like live videos this week blimey yes I did one on the first one two three four five six no six

not seven six six it's weird because I started doing them again on the 26th of January I've done one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve so in the last two weeks I've done 12 or less than two weeks done 12 videos I did say live videos what I mean is they're not animated you know what is me like there's one natural that was live but it's live on Facebook so still kind of doesn't count as being a live stream I don't and I mean the analytics

analytics have gone up have they apparently not okay 980 watch time hours in the last 28 days so that's quite a lot isn't it last seven days what's it been 263 in the last seven days I've had one 1.2 thousand views in the last seven days so it's going up gradually still not a lot but it's growing growing up going up growing up unlike me I've just released the confused to sleep video so that's starting to get a few views it's I don't say it's weird but when I do a

deep sleep whisper recording on YouTube they're the ones that get the most views and then when I release one which is to Let Me Bore You To Sleep hardly anything even the DNA test results how can that not be the most exciting thing you've ever seen but no didn't get much mind you busy little hypnotist that that did all right actually that was a couple of days ago that was the 4th 5th 6th 7th so what would that Tuesday 4th 5th 6th 5th yeah so the day before I don't know

maybe it's because I had a sexy top on yeah maybe not see yeah I don't know why am I less boring I mean that's a compliment in some ways but there's an aspect of being like a friendly voice to listen to like regularly and these are things that other people have said to me or written to me over the years that it's so it can be nice to have a regular voice to hear and it's I mean some people I mean someone did send me a message saying they hadn't left

their home in weeks and listening to me helps probably help someone to get out of the house to be fair just so they can escape me it's not like I'm in the house I'm not like hiding in the wardrobe I'm just just saying that is it yeah it's nice the idea that maybe it's not just that I'm boring people but maybe there's something a bit more and I guess it's the same it's like whoever did this a thousand people could do exactly what I'm doing and they'd all be different it'd

be different because we're all different and so you know everyone's unique and everyone's got their own I mean you get a thousand people to talk on a specific subject and it might be some of them might be similar because they're kind of you know not they're reading off a script but they are perhaps you know regurgitating what they've heard other people say but in this scenario where it's just free form just chatting whatever it's a lot more personal it's a lot more intimate I guess and I like to think that

I open myself up again my mind went to a different thing and bring it back I open my I'm quite open I would say an oversharer maybe and it's I don't know things have changed and I'm getting on 54 now hard to believe I know they didn't believe it jiu-jitsu didn't believe I was 54 I remember someone I heard I heard him thinking I was I heard him talking in the background like he said he's only 54 he looks 63 at least I was so proud it's weird when people assume

why you're going to training someone actually said to me someone asked me why are you coming to training and there was a few people around I said well I've just been interested in it for a while and I bet it'd be nice just to you know I don't really know how to word it and someone shouted out what lose weight you're here to lose weight you're here to reduce your belly fat fatty belly what so I went up to him and bang bang and they punched me twice and I'm actually

still on the mats unconscious yep there's no punching in jiu-jitsu or there's no striking it's really weird when um I know I'm not supposed I'm not supposed to be talking about this I I decided to wait until I do a recording on this subject but it's amazing once you're on a mat and when you're on the floor you realize how vulnerable people are or how vulnerable I am you know it's a because it yeah it's just some of the movements if they were done just slightly differently would be very debilitating

to the person like instantly or very and it's not about that it's about doing it safely but I can just see how you know when you see someone on camera and they're you know if I see you see occasionally you might not I've seen on YouTube and maybe somebody's really being naughty on a train at the tube or underground train or in an airport and then someone who happens to be a UFC fighter or a jiu-jitsu expert or whatever takes them to the ground and chokes them out and that you

know but just they tap and you know they do that and it looks like a lot of wiggling and all that stuff the thing is what they don't show you because they don't you don't see it is that that jiu-jitsu person as soon as they got them on the ground they could severely damage them taking them to the ground or once they're on the ground it could be over in a second they don't need to choke people out and maybe another jiu-jitsu person they do and some people would be so

strong that maybe you would need to but it's just it's I don't know I think it's very interesting I find it very interesting and I quite like the the step-by-stepness of it like you do this and it's almost I guess like a game like you go there they go there you go there and it's it's kind of undoing each other's which is a bunch of locks grabs and stuff and yeah I've got no idea what I'm talking about see that's what I do I talk about stuff that I've got no

idea what I'm talking about and it almost starts to sound like I do to myself sometimes I know a little bit about this and then I realize I know nothing about it and that whole scenario I just made up it's amazing so Ali asks me what is your favorite animal Vinnie's got his ears open haven't you you looked at me as soon as I say your name and well Vinnie is my favorite but he's not an animal he's my boy isn't he he's my little boy however annoying he is I

love birds but what is it your water's there your food's there you want a treat don't you you want a sausage wait until I finish the recording Vin and then you'll have a sausage so I need to make myself some food as well and I love birds I don't know I just love birds I love the hearing them singing whistling like the birds in the tree like outside here I mean I like I really like birds but ferrets you know after having Andre ferrets are amazing they're just so much fun

so I guess I can only really go from my own perspective of my own experiences I would say probably okay doggies as well dog I love dogs cats are beautiful they really are especially when they're kittens those big eyes oh man and my neighbor downstairs has got a cat and she lets me pick her up but the cat lets me pick her up and she's just so cuddly she's so lovely little so little and so I guess I'm gonna go equally with dogs and ferrets and I think the reason for

that is probably because I've had I've only really had two pets or two they're my they're my kids but I've only had lived with two that have been my responsibility which was Andre the ferret and Vinnie the Jack Russell and my voice which is going for some reason have a drink of water that should help it's probably just the radiators gotta stop laying on them that didn't make sense did it it made no sense at all what do you mean laying on a radiator I don't know how can you lay

on a radiator I mean it's physically impossible for me to lay on a radiator I could lay against the radiator I couldn't balance on it I mean it's just impossible I probably I think as I get older my friend downstairs used to say this like one day it'll get another ferret and maybe I will I don't think it's a good mix with him he's waiting at the door I bet you hope he doesn't need the toilet so that's that and Maria asks following on from Ing's question did you ever experience

performance anxiety and do you have any tips on how to deal with this before a performance thank you have I had performance anxiety a couple of times uh I'll tell you what makes it well what made it easier for me I used to see really really well-known comedians that were on TV and I used to see them before they went on stage and a lot of them were anxious until they got on stage and then they were fine so I kind of figured that all you got to do is get

on stage it's that it's just that doing it once you're doing it it's fine and you know if I was going to give myself advice is be prepared so if you're going on stage to read a script or to read in front of it could be a wedding just be prepared know what you're going to say but at the same time be prepared enough to be able to ad-lib and also maybe don't take it too seriously because especially in that that environment even in a comedy a comedy situation or in

a public speaking situation it's not the most important thing in the world I mean if you look presidents and prime ministers and members of royalty and super famous people make mistakes when they're talking they stutter they say the wrong things you know sporting icons sometimes say the wrong things when they're talking it's just natural so there's no reason for us normal people us lower folk to to you know slip up verbally so I would say that would take away the anxiety of it realizing that everybody sometimes forgets what to say

I mean there's a really famous I think so there's a video but it was a recording of Elvis Presley forgetting the words to his song and starting to laugh if it can happen to the greatest the greatest the greatest they call me king for a reason and if there's anyone listening to this that doesn't know who Elvis Presley is check him out and I'm pretty sure that Gandhi would forget what he was going to say sometimes I'm pretty sure that some of the greatest orators is that the right word like

Martin Luther King or Malcolm X or JFK or I'm trying to think not Ralph Harris and president what's his name Reagan wasn't he really good speaker as well but he's some speakers that they make mistakes Tony Blair was like a very good speaker when he was prime minister or before he was prime minister and but you know he used to stutter sometimes it's just natural it's I know you weren't asking about stuttering but I'm just saying I guess I'm using the word stuttering as an effect of encompassing all the kind

of forgetting what to say next and tripping over our words and you know that kind of stuff that's natural for everyone to do sometimes I mean I've got a lisp and a stutter sometimes sometimes I just forget the word just gone it's not a new thing this happens forever sometimes it doesn't doesn't matter see now I don't care about stuff like that I guess maybe you know if I was going to be on television I mean I've even seen police talking about like a really big event that's just happened you

know like trying to put a whole city to tell us or tell the whole country that you know we've got this situation under control and whatever and even they will stutter over their words or say the wrong thing or have to correct themselves it's just natural it's natural so I think I guess I'm focusing on the how to deal deal with this before performance is realizing that you're not that even those people that are doing it all the time will sometimes mess up and I'm trying to think someone like Tony

Robbins who's I would argue potentially the most prolific public speaker of the last 40 years 30 years or whatever I mean I attended one of his seminars below me wow 20 years ago I think it was and there was 10 000 people there and he was talking non-stop for three days like non-stop like just did not stop we know what non-stop means I know but he just like literally just kept going on and on and on and on and on but he you know he tripped over his word sometimes but

people don't notice it I don't think really and I saw a boxing fight where the the victor was being interviewed it was a really big fight and had the to been interviewed at the end afterwards he's in the ring and he says that his sentence was back to front no one said anything because you could from the structure it was the wrong structure but you was what he was saying so I think sometimes even if if the words are in the wrong order the audience can maybe understand what's being said

it's also worth remembering that if you've got an audience in front of you let's say there's say 100 people they're not all having the same experience they might all look like they're internally responding the same or they might outwardly be laughing or giggling or just you know showing interest feigning interest for me but they're not you know the amount of people that will be thinking about what they're going to have dinner or thinking about when's the break so I can go and have a cigarette break or so I can go

to the toilet can I hold on I need a poo it's stuff like that so you might have this audience but not all of them are focusing they might be looking but how many of them are actually focusing on what the person on stage is saying there might be a couple out on a date they might be laughing but how much are either those giving their full attention to the comedian or to the person singing or to the person talking on stage when they're on a date and their priority is

not about that person that's talking it's about the person sitting next to them or about themselves you know what someone told me this is I'm not sure what it was a very um he's a famous comedian and he wasn't famous at the time but he was he was one of the top comedians in London well probably in the country but in London anyway and he said to me that when he looks out at the audience he knows that a lot of the people out there are not going to like him

they're not going to find him funny at all some are even just going to dislike him instantly but as long as he has more people like him than not like him that's all that counts so as long as more people laughing than not laughing the people aren't laughing no one notices and I thought that was quite interesting that yeah you know he didn't have the ego to say well everyone likes me everyone thinks I'm brilliant his attitude was no they don't I mean you might even I reckon even if someone

goes to see let's say they've got a favorite comedian that they've watched box sets they've watched dvds have seen them on YouTube on tv or her on YouTube whatever and they want to go and see that comedian or that singer live and then they get to see them they might not like it they might be a big fan they might have bought all their albums they might have bought all their dvds or you know watched all of their specials on streaming services but when they go there they might think oh

I don't like don't like them I'm not I'm enjoying this they don't sound the same as they did on a on a recording or they sung they sung the wrong songs why they're not singing the songs that I want them to sing in the order that I want them to sing them or they might find that they don't like the comedian he's just doing jokes that he did on the dvds I've already seen so even though it's your gig or it's that person's gig they're on the poster people have come

to see them not everyone in the audience is going to be happy not everyone in the audience is going to laugh or like the comedian even though they've paid for tickets and then you could split that audience up as well how many people have come because they're a fan and they brought their partner or they brought their friends from work or they brought a brother or sister or parent or son daughter to the to the performance to come with them because they want to go on their own and they're like

you know so you could have a quarter of the audience absolutely not like what's going on but the other three courses gonna of the audience gonna drown it out with their laughter or with their cheering or clapping or whatever so yeah it's it's a weird concept to to get my head around but it makes sense you know it's like well the argument would be obviously everyone if they've come to see you in concert you know different if you turn up a comedy gig generally if it's like a small comedy gig

or it's just a comedy club a lot of the audience wouldn't even know who the comedians were unless they're comedy you know comedy fans or comedic stand-up fans but if you actually go to see that person in concert you know doing a live gig at their own in a theater then i imagine a lot of people think well yeah everyone in the audience is gonna love this person they're gonna laugh thanks vinnie oh but yeah so that's that's it that's what i would say um or you could just imagine everyone

naked but i didn't work when i was younger because well i'm just glad i had loose pants on that's all uh what's the next question karen what do you like most and least about where you live it changes depending on my mood to be honest what is it you want vinny staring at me with those beautiful brown eyes he's staring at me what is it you want then i don't know what you want the weather's not too bad around here we get we don't get a huge amount of rain the

surrounding areas do but we don't get a huge amount of rain so that's not too bad and it doesn't get hugely cold i mean we have really cold days but it's not but that's more of a uk england thing really the like the southern part don't get like particularly terrible weather usually where i live things i i'm not a big fan of how far away it is from everywhere and how isolated i feel sometimes there's a lot of yeah there's a bit of dodgy stuff going on but i guess that's

happening everywhere isn't it i just i don't really want to be involved well i'm not involved i'm not involved in that stuff but i'd rather just not know about it to be honest um i like some of the dog walkers i've spoken to a few not many but i speak to a few dog walkers so that's nice uh it's quite a good place and we've got a park so i can take vinny out and that so that's pretty good um it's near the field so the air is pretty good you

know technically but it's also near motorway so i'm not sure how good the air is is it's a weird one isn't it i mean most most motorways go through fields that's where they went through isn't it so it's usually fields either side of the motorways in this country what do i like about it i don't know that's something i need to start thinking about um yeah yeah i don't know i can't think of anything off offhand um it's fairly quiet i mean it has its moments we've got a few shouty

people around but it's fairly quiet um i like the fact that i've got my home you know i waited decades for this and i know it's not perfect and i don't put a lot of effort into making it any better than it already is it is my little place you know it's my space and that's probably the best part i guess and being able to do this i suppose hmm karen that's a hard question to answer blimey i think it depends on what frame of mind i am in at the

time that i answer that question but generally i'm feeling i feel like i've got a well i've never lived apart from when i was no when i was no this is the longest i've ever lived anywhere like as far as in one property never lived in a property for 10 years before it's not quite 10 years but about another month and it'll be 10 years i never 9 to 15 so i've never lived anywhere more than like four five six years ever um a lot of places i've only lived a

year or a few months sometimes so i've moved around a lot lived in many many different places so this is the first time that i've stayed in one place for a decade and yeah it's kind of weird all right baby by the way i'm i'm moving my hand because i'm stroking vinny him that's what i'm stroking i think vin hey he wants my attention i don't know why i think he's just i don't know if he needs to do wee wees but he had a wee wee a little while ago

but it was light and now it's this 20 to 9 so i'm gonna go should we go i'm gonna what i do is i'll open the door and see which direction he goes if he goes towards the front door then because he was hanging around out near that door which he doesn't normally do so if he goes to the front door i need i know that he needs to go and do something if he doesn't then it means he's probably wanting me to give him a tret or treet what oh

no he can spell and what was i going to say there was something i was going to say i need to write these things down because i had these thoughts and then i forget them and then i forget them yeah should have wrote it down when i had it it's about vinny i'm sure it was about vinny no it's gone see i gotta write this stuff down when i think about it otherwise it's gone oh well well that's me that's it for another week's version of q a friday so thank you for listening remember to be kind to yourself because you do deserve to be happy be gentle with yourself because you do deserve to you're safe lots of love bye
