If you want to that'd be lovely. Thank you. So it's a little bit windy outside so you might have a little bit of background sound but the microphone doesn't generally pick it up.
But you know, as I've said before, it doesn't matter if there's a bit of background sound. The audio quality doesn't have to be perfect. I mean my recordings are so much better quality than they used to be.
Yet I still had hundreds of thousands of listens, downloads, even when my recordings were recorded on a crappy digital recorder. Like, you know, really bad quality. People were still listening, downloading, still managing to go to sleep, relax deeply, reduce their chronic pain, distract their busy mind, whatever the reason they were listening for.
So you know, it doesn't matter. I mean it doesn't even if the quality of the sound that you're listening to is good, you might have background sound where you are. Of course you may be listening with headphones but not everybody has the opportunity to do that.
You might have a reason, like there's someone, a friend of mine called Molly, she's got a little baby now so she doesn't, she can't listen on headphones because she needs to have her ears alert to her baby. If her baby needs her. And now a baby listens to me and gets bored by my ramblings and my non-exciting voice.
I wonder what she hears, or her boy, her little boy hears, just me going blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So yeah, it'd be nice if we could just get ourselves into a comfortable position, sitting in a comfortable chair that supports your body, or lying on a comfortable bed, flat surface such as a sofa. And I want to count down from 10 to 1. And as I count down from 10 to 1, notice how your body starts to relax.
Now, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Now, I didn't count really slowly, but just notice how your body feels. As I count down again from 10 to 1, just notice the muscles in your body, how they become more relaxed. Now, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Now, the counting was a little bit slower that time.
And how does your body feel? And it may not make sense to why your body would slow down, or your muscles would start to relax just by counting from 10 down to 1 so early in the recording. But remember that when you press the play button on this podcast, on this recording, you have already decided to relax. You decided that's what you want.
You may have decided you also want to fall asleep. So you have made the decision what results you intend to gain from listening to this recording. You've already decided that.
Now, I'm sure that some people would listen, maybe for the first time, decided that it's not going to have any benefit to them. However ridiculous that might sound, some people work like that. I'm going to listen to this, this weird man who thinks he's going to relax me.
Well, it's not. In that case, it probably won't. So there it goes.
You're active in this process. You're thinking, your mindset has more effect upon how relaxed you become and how sleepy you start to feel than anything that I say or do. Your intention behind listening to this recording has the most effect.
Upon the results. And if you listen to me regularly, then relaxing is really, really easy. Simple and quick.
Because you've done it before and you wouldn't be listening again, unless you benefited from listening before. No one would listen twice to something that wasn't useful. Which means I don't really have to do much when you're listening.
Of course, I can't just sit here and be silent, because that would be pointless. But you're the one, your intention, the way that you're thinking, the positivity that you have towards your own ability to relax deeply, all the muscles of your body, to slow down your mind. To either distract yourself from maybe an overactive mind, or to slow down that overactive mind, leading you to feeling more relaxed.
Which as we all know, the more relaxed you feel, the better you feel. And we all know, anyone that listens regularly also knows that falling asleep is pretty much relaxing. The falling asleep part is the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle.
And you don't even know when it's happening. It just happens automatically. It's one of those weird things you can't just say to someone, right, I'm off to sleep now.
Now some people can do that actually, I guess. I've seen people fall asleep instantly. And they know they haven't been talking to me either.
Some people do have that ability to lay their head on a pillow and be asleep within seconds, almost instantly. Which is good for them. But not everybody has that.
I don't, I don't have that ability to do that. And I'll be honest with you, I don't want that ability. Because I quite like, for me, the most pleasurable part of going to sleep is the relaxing part before.
I like getting comfortable and lying in bed. And just lying there. My body's relaxed.
I feel more and more comfortable. And there's even sometimes, you know, a degree of pleasure that comes from relaxing and being comfy, you know, not just comfortable physically, but maybe a nice temperature if you're under a quilt. Just having that freedom, you're no longer limited by clothing, or shoes, or hats, you know, I mean, in the winter, you might have to wear a hat, or gloves.
You're not carrying anything around in a bag, when you're lying down. You're not having to talk to anyone, hopefully. You don't need to look at anything.
You don't need to listen to anything. I mean, you can listen to me. But after a while, let's be honest, there probably comes a time if you are listening to fall asleep, that you stop listening.
And you just fall asleep. So having that freedom when you're relaxing, even if you're sitting in the chair, maybe you have your eyes closed, and everything just slows down naturally. Everything starts to feel clearer, that clarity of thinking maybe.
When you have clarity of thoughts, there's no longer a bombardment of different thoughts, or clambering trying to get your attention. Because clarity of thought means you're just thinking about one thing at a time. Your focus of attention would be focusing on relaxing, and focusing on the physical sensation of your body relaxing, and your mind slowing down.
So I'm going to count from 10 to 1 again, and notice now how you relax yourself, and your body, the muscles in your body, as I count from 10 down to 1. So starting with 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. As you observe how you're feeling in this moment, noticing the muscles, noticing the parts of you that feel more relaxed than before. We're just going to focus on your mind.
And I'm going to count from 10 to 1 again, but this time I'm going to say the words slow down, slow down.
Because you're going to be focusing on your mind the whole time that I count from 10 to 1. So I'm going to be saying slow down like 10, and slow down. Don't worry about repeating the number, just repeat the words slow down, focusing just on your mind, only on your mind. And now 10, slow down.
9, slow down. 8, slow down. 7, slow down.
6, slow down. 5, slow down. 4, slow down.
3, slow down. 2, slow down. 1, slow down.
How did that feel? To be focusing your attention on your mind and to say slow down, directing it at your mind. Hearing me say it and then you saying it. 10 times, which means your mind has heard those words 20 times.
And regardless of how powerful, beneficial, my words and me saying those words, aiming them at your mind, you saying them is way, way more powerful and meaningful. Because it's coming from you, directed towards you. You're telling your mind to calm down.
You're taking control. Because you're the boss of you. And your mind knows that.
Your legs know that, your arms, your chest, your chin, your eyes, your back, your feet, hands, they all know that you're in charge. And when you decide that your body is going to feel relaxed, when you decide that your mind is going to slow down, and when you decide that you're going to fall asleep naturally and easily, your body and your mind, your brain, your unconscious mind, all listen to you.
You listen to yourself and you affect how you feel so easily, so naturally.
And this is something that you can play around with. This is something that you can test even further. So I'd like you to just count from 20 down to one.
And ask what you want to happen next. Or tell yourself what you want to happen next. Maybe you want to relax even deeper.
So after every number, repeat those words to yourself inside your mind. For example, 20, 20, relax even deeper, or relax my body even deeper, relax my mind even more. And do that 20 times, slowly.
And I'll leave you to do that now.
