Hello and welcome to jasonnewland.com. My name is Jason Newland. Please only listen when you can safely close your eyes. This is Relax and Sleep Hypnosis Daily.

I'd like you to get yourself comfortable sitting in a supportive chair or lying down on your bed or some other flat surface, whatever really. But I'm guessing the bed is the standard place. Remember that you can change your physical position whenever you choose.

Because I say this because I know a lot of people who listen to this have physical issues such as chronic pain or whatever may be causing physical discomfort. So there's no there's no medals to be won for just laying or sitting in one position. It's the opposite to what we're trying to achieve here.

You know comfort doesn't have to be just lying there. It's completely still. You know we can we can get relaxed more relaxed more comfortable even moving around such as walking around and even exercise.

And this is this isn't that kind of relaxation but there's lots of ways to relax. Doesn't have to be sitting stationary. For example if someone's got bad back back issues you might have 10 minutes of relaxation and then you might feel the need to you might have to physically stand up for a few minutes because lying down might be something that causes issues.

So I know I've kind of gone on a bit about the you know the point I'm trying to make. I think it's important because I myself have a physical issue. My lower back I've got you know complications with my lower back and in the past I've actually done hypnosis with people like you know one-on-one in the same room.

Hasn't always been the internet. And they've been sitting down in a chair completely relaxed. You have completely gone every bit of tension drained from their body.

And then half an hour later whatever you know sort of they'll open their eyes and tell me how the experience was and I'll say it was really great and then I'll be holding their neck. I don't mean like they're still attached to their head and not holding their neck in front of them. Look at this and they'll actually they were aware that their neck was uncomfortable because of maybe the way their head was just leaning back or leaning forward or whatever.

But partly you know there's different reasons why they didn't move their neck to make themselves more comfortable. Partly it's because I couldn't be bothered because I was so relaxed. But there was that expectation that they kind of need to just be almost like a statue and you don't.

You really don't. The most important thing is comfort. The most important thing is doing what feels right for you.

And if you fall asleep you might be listening to this to fall asleep. You might be listening to this solely to relax. That's why in the title I've got relax and sleep.

It's just it's up to you what you choose to use this recording and all the other recordings I do for. It's about choice and I've seen people in meditation fall asleep and it's okay. Even though that's the complete opposite to what meditation is.

Meditation is about focus. It's about being well if anything becoming more awake in a sense. But it doesn't matter.

So I guess that's what I'm trying to say is there's no fast rules for this and if anyone tells you there is then maybe they're right and I'm wrong. I don't know. But I'm all about comfort and not taking ourselves too seriously.

And that's something maybe I'd like to talk about today is taking a break from being serious. Now this might seem like a weird thing to say but in my experience in my experience and I'm an old man now. I've noticed that people that take themselves seriously tend to have more tension and more stress and are unhappier.

Just quite unhappy people sometimes. I'm not talking about all the time and I don't think anybody takes themselves seriously all the time. But some people tend to really it's almost as if they have this sense of I don't know if it's an inflated sense of self-worth probably more an inflated sense of self-importance.

You know it's the kind of person that would say to you who do you think you're talking to? Do you know who I am? That you know that kind of person. The person will argue about everything and won't even take facts. Won't change their mind even with facts.

You know dismiss facts because they've made their decision what something is and that's what they're sticking to. Some people like that will argue with reality constantly argue with reality getting upset because the weather is not what they think it should be.

It's July so it should be hot well it's not hot it's July it should be sunny well it's raining but no that's not right it's July it should be hot and sunny but it's raining and it's a little bit chilly but that's not right well that is right the reality is what is real now not what we think should be and I know most people they hear that and it's like well obviously but how many of us do that?

I do it I argue with reality I'm sure you do and isn't it silly really? I mean we can decide that this reality isn't what we want it to be if you're living somewhere with in a relationship with someone you don't want to be in a relationship with living somewhere you don't want to live in a job you don't want to do that's the reality now but that reality you can change your own reality you can change how things are you can't change the weather you can't change your height unless you're like nine years old and you can say well I will change my height come

back in six months fair enough I can't do anything about the sound of the train in the distance or the motorway with all the will in the world and denial of reality guarantee that in the next six hours I am going to fart at some point I can argue with reality I don't fart I can argue with reality that I don't smell but if I don't have a wash I leave it long enough I will smell really bad as will everybody so arguing with reality it seems to for my observations

seems to cause a lot of distress in people because you know it's okay to relax and to do all kinds of things yoga meditation listening to hypnosis recordings uh reiki massage acupuncture reflexology Indian head massage exercise prayer there's so many different ways that you can learn to relax but I think the most important time is when you're not relaxing what's happening when you're not sitting on a chair or lying down in your bed listening to a recording it's easy to relax when there's no other distractions especially when you've got a

boring voice like mine droning on as I always talk about now don't care can't be bothered to listen and just like take yourself seriously so it's what happens that's what meditation instructor would say it's how you feel and how you deal with life when you're not on the cushion sitting on a cushion now I sit in a chair when I meditate because I can't my back won't allow me to sit on a cushion unless the cushion's on a chair so it's how we are when we're not relaxing and a lot

of that can be affected by positively affected by relaxing you know once a day sitting down lying down listening to maybe me waffle on for half an hour 20 minutes that could really help in that moment and it can be a cumulative and it could grow and you feel better during the day than perhaps you would have done before yet there's more required and I think that's where maybe you know a kind of hypnosis recording can be useful because something that needs to be changed or great you know maybe slightly

slightly just you know just moved a little bit just a little bit changed a little bit slightly moved slightly kind of I don't know the right word would be but it's your attitude and changing your attitude is not necessarily the easiest thing but when you observe and notice things that perhaps you don't like it's much easier to stop doing things that we don't that we don't like about ourselves and I don't mean like hate but maybe behavior that on reflection was maybe distasteful unpleasant and unhelpful so I would focus on

the unhelpful stuff because for me for my part there's no judgment there and I don't know people listening what you've done in your life and arguments you might have got into and stuff like that all I know is when I've had heated conversations maybe on the phone or even in person I always feel rubbish afterwards and I try and learn from it I try to learn like well I'm not going to do that again and I found different strategies to help me with that and I guess having worked in call

centers in the past for years and years I learned how to deal with angry sometimes extremely angry customers and one thing to remember is that those people that are angry are suffering why they feel that they need to share that suffering it's almost like they want other people to feel what they're feeling and it doesn't really make sense logically it makes sense to share pleasant stuff but then human beings can be a bit weird can't they well can't we I suppose I'm kind of human how often have you had a

friend say to you oh this this tea is disgusting or this this cake is horrible tastes disgusting try some so you want me to share this unpleasant experience with you no thanks or they'll want to go into graphic detail about something that horrible that happened and expect you just to sit there and listen to their awful experience that they just had with a I don't know a pedestrian or a cyclist on the road and whatever the situation might be so it does seem to be something about sharing negativity sharing unpleasant

feelings with each other that I don't think necessarily is particularly helpful or healthy and I guess the more of that we do and the more that we accept other people to share with us the more serious we may become the more important we might feel in some ways we feel that we're almost I don't know how people get to that point of feeling important I understand maybe people that have jobs where they're the boss and they're used to telling other people what to do that they may take that into their

real life I've seen people that are teachers talk down I've had that talked down to me like I was a little kid I was 10 at the time but that that's no excuse so there's kind of a I guess a molding of a person by what they do for a living maybe to a degree but we don't have to allow that because when you take yourself seriously it's it's just harder to let go and letting go is what is required for health for relaxation falling asleep we need to be able

to let go letting go of resentment hate anger all those poisonous feelings that ultimately hurt us more than anyone else unless we physically act out on it you know if you have an argument with someone or someone let's say you're driving and someone cuts you off and then they drive on you might go home and have that feeling of rage for the next three four hours that other person's probably watching television having a good laugh completely oblivious that you even exist and I've met a lot so many angry people over

the years and someone I've got a reason to be angry but not all the time although no one's angry no one has the same feeling all the time anyway but if every time you meet someone and they're being angry then you you'd class them as being angry all the time but you might only see them like for half an hour a week if you see them every week for five years and they're angry even if it's for 10 minutes a week to you that person's an angry person but when actually

maybe they're only angry for those 10 minutes which would be weird wouldn't it so taking ourselves seriously we need to drop that temporarily temporarily we need to drop that on the floor think of it as a almost like a mask like a costume that you just need to take off you unzip it at the top of your head unzip it all the way down your face unzip it all the way down your body and let everything the skin the hair the eyes the teeth legs feet fingernails all drop to the

floor and allow your real self to be there the calm relaxed you and what you'll find is the more often you do this first of all it causes more work for you on the other side of it the flip side because then once you've relaxed and calm and you've finished and you know you finish the recording or you finish whatever you're doing to relax maybe sleep you then realize that you have a choice do you put that costume back on the self-important costume the you know i take myself seriously costume

or do you decide to just go out in the world just being yourself being the relaxed you that's just as capable of dealing with everything if not maybe easily dealing with everything as before maybe dealing with things in a much more light hearted way much more relaxed way maybe humorous way because that's often something the first thing that goes that you notice with a really serious person is a lack of humor we need to be able to laugh at ourselves doesn't mean that we need to allow other people to mock

us and be rude and stuff but i think it's important to be able to just laugh at ourselves and laugh at a situation and when you got that costume on of mr or mrs or ms or whatever serious it's hard to laugh at yourself because that costume is being created by us in what we would class as the perfect version of what we think we should be because we create that it's created it's not real so it's created this persona of seriousness is at that time probably the best version of

seriousness that we can muster which means it'd be very difficult to take criticism and let's face it you know who likes criticism it's you know i've never met anyone that's actually says oh criticize me girl please criticize me more i love it no so when you relax you take that costume off unzip it from the top of your head unzip it completely let it fall to the floor first of all you feel so free you feel so free it's almost you don't realize how stinted and stunted and claustrophobic you were

before until afterwards when you take it off and you allow yourself just to be you just to be yourself to relax feel calm let go of everything it's a great opportunity to enjoy who you are to appreciate who you are and to just experience in that moment or in this moment the you that's relaxed and calm and peaceful without any of that shoulds and shouldn'ts without any of that arguing with reality because when you're relaxed when you're feeling calm and loose you don't worry about the weather it's raining it might

not be the weather that you would choose it might even have put a dampener on the day if you was planning to go somewhere for the day a picnic for example then you know heavy rain is potentially putting into that those plans it just means you can do something else i mean i understand why a lot of people want to sit on the beach or a park sitting on a blanket eating sandwiches spending you know two or three hours fighting off flies and wasps i can understand how wonderful that must

be especially with my bad back i couldn't sit on a blanket see if i wouldn't if you if we went on a picnic last year last august sitting on a blanket in a park i'd still be there i can't get up i'd still be there now i've been making this recording from the park i'll be covered in bees and flies and wasps and daddy long legs trying to eat my fruit so that's not a treat either is it fruit i know it's healthy but it's supposed to be fun where's the

chocolate where's the ice cream so to be able to just let go of that seriousness and i know some people would argue well life is serious and i've got all these things going on yeah everybody has got things going on everybody every single person has got things going on and basically as you're getting out become an adult the more people you know the more it's going on because the more people you know the more chances you're going to know someone that's had an accident or is not very well or is

going through a bereavement you know it's just life but do we have to be the serious one all the time and a flexibility that taking that let's call it the clown costume shall we taken off the clown costume which is ironic because clowns are supposed to be fun but i've met a lot of serious people that i would class as clowns because they take themselves so serious and with that seriousness comes that sense of importance as if they're more important than other people and no one is not really and we

all know that we all know that underneath we're just all the same just human beings flesh blood and all that stuff we've just got different minds we've got different different thoughts different feelings we're all unique in that way and the flexibility that comes with being yourself is of course you can be serious when it's required for the duration of that requirement and then you can go and be yourself again although you were being yourself when you were serious because we've got all those aspects to us suddenly but you still feel

relaxed when you're serious i think of a job where being serious would be a very important aspect of that job and i was thinking maybe a funeral worker someone that works i don't know what the correct title is but someone that deals with bereaved people for a living as someone that does a job like that has to have a sense of humor they also need to be serious at times quite a lot of the time but not take themselves too serious and i wonder whether you're willing to just take that

costume off and drop it to the floor and have trust in your own ability to feel relaxed more of the time because it's easy to feel relaxed when you're listening to a boring recording or a relaxing session but that's just a tiny fraction of the day what about the rest of the day that's where the the proof of the pudding as they say is how you are during your day-to-day life and if you listen to my recordings regularly and they're not all the same they're different you will start to notice

that certain aspects of your life have changed maybe you reacted in the past to certain occasions certain events and now you choose your response you're not just reacting like a dog you're actually using your brain like a human not reacting mind mindlessly which we're all capable of doing and what we all have done and at times we all probably will do still i'm not sure if that ever goes away there's always going to be a chance of that happening but what you find is it happens less it'll happen less when

you listen to me regularly listen to these recordings things start to change and if they don't then stop listening unless you benefit from the relaxation at the time but this this and all our recordings isn't just about feeling relaxed or maybe being able to fall asleep you know now be able to calm your mind slow your mind down now and relax all the muscles in your body and let go of everything now it's also about finding those resources that have always been available to you when you need them noticing that

you can cope much easier in a much more relaxed manner when called for when needed you're able to think but at the same time feel relaxed which improves not just your physical health but your mental health and may also transform your relationships and the way that you perceive yourself could transform because as you change and we're all changing all the time as you change you change you change you change you change you grow and you're the one that chooses how you grow by what you focus on what you give attention

to those people that focus on things that they're unhappy with or you know those people that argue with reality they're giving that message to their unconscious mind to have more of those feelings of anger and resentment and unsatisfaction yeah if you focus on what you are pleased with maybe things that have happened during the day which has surprised you how easily and in such a relaxed way you dealt with that situation and how maybe people seem to be treating you in a much friendlier and more positive way than before ever

since you just unzipped that suit that clown suit that mr mrs mrs serious suit dropped it on the floor because the longer it's on the floor the heavier it gets it's much harder to put on again in fact what you find is that when you look at that suit it's on the floor when you look at it you can hardly see it and you're like why can't i see it and then you look closer and you realize that it's tiny and this doesn't make logical sense how could it be tiny

well realize you realize as you look at it that you're much bigger now you're much freer now you've got more options you're no longer limited or limiting yourself in a way that you did when you was wearing that suit of seriousness and your energy and your mind is endless the relaxation and comfort that you can experience in your body and your mind is also endless an endless supply of positivity is always available to you 24 hours a day and possibly a lot lesser that seemed available before when you're wearing that

serious suit that's now on the floor shrinking almost shrinking in front of your eyes it's not that you physically got bigger you emotionally expanded because positivity love kindness relaxation expands it affects what we do and where we're going and who we meet that positive energy reaches the other person before we're even you know five six seven foot away from them that energy has already reached them that positive kind love relaxation that energy is already reaching them and affecting them in a positive way which seems to change their response to us

which is something that you can maybe notice for yourself and you feel friendlier even maybe towards people that you didn't particularly even like before you start to realize that they're okay they're just a human being and maybe what very likely got problems the same as anyone else and you may notice how much easier it is to laugh at angry people maybe not to their face but you can laugh at them inside or maybe afterwards and when something seems amusing it's almost impossible to feel anger or hate because those feelings don't

go together with humor with finding something funny it's a different emotion very different so maybe you can choose if you haven't already done so to unzip that costume and just let it drop to the floor let it drop to the floor thank you for listening remember to be kind to yourself because you deserve to be happy lots of love bye
