Hello, welcome to jasonnuland.com. My name is Jason Nuland and this is a deep sleep whisper. I only listen to this when you can safely close your eyes. I think what we'll do during this session is have a nice old fashioned body scan.
Where we'll focus on your body, starting at the top of your head and moving all the way down. Individually focusing on each part. So we get to the end which is your toes.
This can be used for relaxing. It's a mindfulness exercise which is used by people all around the world. To reduce stress, to increase a sense of relaxation.
And having learnt this particular meditative technique many many years ago. I've sat in a room probably thousands of times with others doing this as a participant. And every time somebody falls asleep, pretty much.
It's one of those things that ideally if you're wanting to stay awake. You're better off sitting up straight with your back straight. Because I know that if I was lying down on my bed.
I would struggle to even finish this session without falling asleep. So if you've got yourself ideally lying down or sitting in a chair which supports your body. Basically whatever position that you sleep in.
The most important thing is that you're comfortable. There are no prizes for discomfort. It's all about enjoying the experience.
Knowing that the worst case scenario is that at the end of this recording you'll feel more relaxed. And a lot of people won't even get to the end. Because they'll fall asleep.
Including me. I'm going to be doing quite a few versions of this in the future. But I'm going to stick to a very basic one.
A very kind of an original version. And then start to be perhaps a bit more creative. Adding my own little bits and bobs over time.
And we're going to start with the top of your head. And as you focus on each part of your body that I mentioned. Remember that you're not trying to send that part of your body to sleep.
You don't have to try to do anything. It really is a case of just observing that part of your body. In the same way as observing the background sounds here.
A distant sound of a plane going. Maybe the birds. A tree in the garden.
Perhaps the sound of my stomach. Yelling, Daddy feed me. Being aware of that individual part of your body.
It's the same as being aware of the temperature in your room. That you are right now. Or if you're outside.
The temperature. Because you may be sitting outside. Or laying down on some kind of camper bed.
Or who knows. The possibilities are endless I guess. You could be in a hammock.
And even when you're focusing on the particular part of your body that I mentioned. You can also be aware of the sensation of the breath entering and leaving your body. And you can also allow yourself to be aware of any other parts of your body.
Whether it be gas. Whether it's a discomfort that needs readjusting. Whether it's a part of the body which has a bit of inflammation or pain.
Because this isn't about ignoring anything. It's about acceptance. It's about just observing.
Observe in an accepting way. You take away the judgement. Which means there's no emotional stress or pain.
Connected to that physical sensation in your body at this time. We can now focus on the top of your head. Sensation.
At the top of your head. Your scalp. Basically from your hairline.
Or maybe where your hairline used to be. Moving up across your scalp. If you imagine putting a bowl on your head.
It goes down to just where your ears are. That would be your scalp, that part. I know that sometimes we might think that there's not much going on in the actual scalp itself.
It's quite hard. It's not really, not necessarily has a lot of sensations. But actually when you focus on it like this.
You can feel that there is quite a bit going on. It's just sensations. Just stuff.
Just feelings. Now focus in on your forehead. Now when I focus on my forehead.
I always, pretty much every time. I feel as if the skin is starting just to relax and stretch. Not become loose but just.
I don't know, kind of as if the wrinkles are just being ironed out. That's no doubt wishful thinking on my part. But I also feel my eyes at the same time.
By trying to separate the different body parts. You're not trying to relax your forehead. Just allow it to be there.
Well it is there. You don't have to do anything to me to allow it to be there. But you can allow the feeling.
See right now I can actually feel my left eye. It feels a little bit uncomfortable. A little just, not painful but a bit.
Just noticeable which wasn't there before. So I'm going to move down to my eyes. So let's move down to our eyes and.
Just allow yourself to feel your eyes. Notice how your eyes feel. Your eyelids.
The muscles at the corners of your eyes. The muscles underneath your eyes. And that sensation I had in my left eye is now vanished.
I don't know what it was. I don't care. Just about accepting.
Allowing whatever feelings that are there to be there. We're going to focus on the jaw area. Now it's a little bit different for me because I'm talking.
So my jaw. Although very. I can feel it.
Because it's moving. A different sensation for you. As you focus on your jaw.
Because your jaw isn't moving. Unless you move it of course. All I notice is.
I'm getting a sensation that moves up to my ears. And it's as if although I'm focusing on my jaw. My mouth.
I don't know this probably sounds weird but. My mouth is sort of. Wanting my attention.
Inside my mouth. As if to say. We're a separate part.
The jaw is the outer side. There's so much more going on inside. As the teeth, the gums, the tongue.
The throat. So let's focus on the mouth. Everything that's inside the mouth.
Your teeth. Gums. Your tongue.
Moving down to your throat. Just notice your throat. Be aware of it.
Feel that air as it enters your body. Moving down your throat into your lungs. A dog in the back.
Woof woof into my stomach when I'm hungry. Sometimes sounds like a howling wolf. Now we're going to focus on the back of your neck.
To me this is. Well personally for myself it's a very important area. Because this is what supports your head.
And the head weighs a lot. So your neck. Not just the back of your neck of course.
Your entire neck. It's full of muscles that support your head. Including your throat.
The sides of your neck. And the back of your neck. There's a lot of muscles there in the back.
Connecting in your shoulders. And those muscles in the back of your neck. Do need to have a lot of TLC.
Tender loving care. I personally have a few issues with the back of my neck. So I try and take care of it.
Might be because I've got a big head. But it's that alignment. With the back of your neck.
And your spine. Allow that. Just to follow.
That line from the back of your neck. As you focus all the way down the middle of your back. Focusing on your spine.
Moving all the way down to your hips. Where your coccyx are. Incorporating.
Your lower back. Which is another really important. Supporting your body.
Now we're going to focus on your shoulders. Just be aware of your shoulders. Noticing how they feel.
Your arms. Just noticing them. Your hands.
Being aware of your hands and fingers. Just. They're just there.
That need to do. Anything. You don't need.
To feel. Anything. Just being aware of what is.
In this moment. As we move back. To your back.
From the top of your back. Those muscles. Either side of your spine.
In your upper back. The middle and your lower back. Just being aware of your back.
The whole of it. How it feels. Right now.
Now focusing on your chest. And your stomach. The whole front of your body.
Your collarbone. Moving down each rib. Just noticing each part of your chest.
Your nipples. Your belly button. Noticing your stomach.
Noticing how it feels. Not trying to cause. Your stomach to feel.
Anything. Just being aware. Does feel.
In fact. Stress reduction. We could have focused.
The whole session just on your stomach. Because. The stomach.
Has a tendency. Of holding on to that stuff. So maybe from now onwards.
Even after this recording is completed. You can maybe. Focus on your stomach.
Every now and then. Just be aware of the physical sensation. Without judgement.
Without the need. To do anything. Unless it's required.
Now we focus on your legs. Moving. All the way.
From your hips. Down to your ankles. Incorporating your thighs.
Knees. Shins and calves. And ankles.
The thing that is grabbing my focus. Is my right knee. I'm not sure why.
But it doesn't matter why. It's just a feeling. Just a sensation.
And now as you move. To your feet. And your toes.
Just observing. Your feet. And your toes.
The bottoms of your feet. The heel of your feet. The tops of your feet.
The sides of your feet. The area between. Your toes.
The area underneath your toes. Each individual toe. So I'm getting a sense of.
Kind of a pulsating. In my feet. It's as if the.
Like a stimulation. In the nerve endings of my feet. Maybe causing.
Triggering. A sense of comfort. And relaxation to.
Spread throughout your body. And they calm down even more. I do find that when my feet are relaxed.
I'm relaxed. And when I'm laying in bed. And my feet.
Are nice and sleepy. My mind also. Becomes nice.
And sleepy. That's the end of this session. See you next time.
