Hello and welcome to Let Me Bore You To Sleep. My name's Jason Newland. Turn on the page of my book and please only listen when you can safely close your eyes.

So today is Tuesday the 31st of January. Last day of the month. Wow.

So I don't know if you can hear, Vinnie's in the background crunching on a bone. Now he's not, he's now underneath the table probably about to give me hassle so I have to put him into the bedroom. He hasn't quite learnt yet that if he just chills out a bit then he doesn't have to go into the bedroom.

I figured something out about him is he wants to approach me lovingly, let's use the word lovingly, probably the correct word actually. He wants to approach me lovingly and cuddle me and stuff like that but he wants to do it on his own terms. He doesn't want me picking him up and cuddling him.

He wants, he doesn't like that. Apparently he didn't like that before I got him. Unless he wants to be picked up, you know, it's kind of all has to be on his terms.

So he, sometimes I'll just sit on the chair and he'll climb up onto the chair and he'll just very slowly make his way towards sitting down next to me or on my lap. Always looking at my hand as if my hand's going to grab him. It's very strange.

Another thing he does now is he climbs onto the back of the sofa with the headrest bit. That's quite a nice place that he likes to hang out as well. He rests his head on my head or on my shoulder.

So hey, I guess he's just, it's taking time but he's getting, still getting used to me. I don't know, it's about six, seven weeks now. Earlier today we had a falling out, twice actually because he kept trying to run in the road.

Well, he was trying to run across the road because there was a cat across the road. Both times there was cars coming and, you know, I'm getting angry with him but he doesn't understand. I mean, literally he would run in front of a car, no two thoughts about it, to get to the other side of the road.

And I'm trying to train him to cross the road slowly, to wait before we cross, to cross slowly and then to wait when we get to the other side. And he's doing it better and better. Each day he's getting better.

But when he sees a cat, all bets are off. Like, stuff you're traded, stepdad, I'm off. I'm getting myself some cat.

Yeah, some cat. So he's very fascinated with cats. I think it was last night or early this morning, there was this cat through a fence and he just stared at it and he wanted to, he could have got through the fence, he's small enough to get through, but I had him on the lead and he so wanted to get through.

And he was squealing like, I won't do noises because he'll probably come over and start doing noises to me, thinking I'm communicating with his squeakiness. So yeah, in the field today, he was biting the lead, really biting the lead. I think it's kind of half playing, but half being belligerent or just trying to be in control.

And he bites, he's bitten through the lead quite a few times, there's holes in the lead. And in the end, I just chucked the lead, just chucked it in the field, got the handle and just walked off. Because he was, he was like the length of the lead into the field.

So I don't know, 10 foot away. So I just chucked it and walked off. And I looked back after about 30 seconds and he was still just standing there looking at me.

I just kept walking. And he was still standing there just looking at me, he didn't know what to do. So I stopped and I called him and he came over, slowly.

And since then he's been good, been behaving good. I just, I don't know what to do with him. Sometimes he's a little bit, I'm no dog trainer.

I'm no dog whisperer. I'm not even a fan of dogs, really. I'm not, I don't dislike dogs.

I've lived with dogs in the past. Never kind of been in charge of a dog myself. But then I never, I never had a ferret before.

But you know, I fell in love with that little smelly belly. So you know, affection, that's what I was thinking of, not love. He shows his affection, he's starting to be more affectionate.

You know, and he does sit by my feet. If I move, if I get up, he moves. He comes sit by my seat, my feet or sleeps by my feet when I'm at the desk.

When I'm working on the computer, if I'm doing editing or processing or whatever, promoting on the laptop. But when I'm doing the podcast, and I'm talking, that, that just seems to stimulate him to want to be interactive. And maybe he thinks I'm talking to him.

And he's wondering why I'm talking to him and not looking at him. You know, they say, when I was at school, look at me when I'm talking to you. It's bad enough I have to hear your voice, I don't want to look at your face as well.

I used to think to myself. So yeah, it's still strange. It's strange.

It's very strange. He's just, he's kind of the weirdest dog I've ever known. As I've known quite a few dogs, and he's just got some real tendencies and strange, almost like I'm a stranger to him.

And like, don't touch me, don't come near me. Yet, when I don't go near him, he comes to me and cuddles up. Yeah, I woke up.

Oh, yeah, I went for a nap this afternoon. I woke up. And I turned around and he was cuddled right into me.

Like he was right in like cuddled into my back, fast asleep. So he did that when I was asleep. I didn't know because when I went to sleep, he was at my feet.

I suppose I'll get to figure him out. Or he'll get we'll get to figure each other out, I suppose over time. So yeah, it's the end of the month.

I got this plan. I don't know if I mentioned it got a plan got a plan a plan plan plan. This month, I've been trying to do two recordings a day.

Now I've not managed to every single day, but I've really aimed for that. And I tried to alternate the deep sleep whisper hypnosis with the daily relax and sleep hypnosis, relax and sleep hypnosis daily. And in doing that, Let Me Bore You To Sleep every day.

So that's what I've done for January. My plan, my plan for February is to do three recordings a day. Let Me Bore You To Sleep every day, deep sleep whisper every day and relax and sleep hypnosis daily.

Daily. That is my plan, my goal for February. So that should be.

So just then when I was talking, he started barking. So I had to put him into the bedroom. I can't stand the barking.

I really don't like it. I've never liked I've never been a fan of dogs barking. Never liked it.

Never been a never been one of my turn ons in life. And he's particularly barky. I mean, I don't I think some people may maybe they just get used to it.

But. It particularly annoys me when it's at night. During the day, not so much, you know.

I can't have him in my bed at night when I sleep because I can't be woken up by that. And when he's in here. He doesn't tend to really bark much.

I hear the occasional yap, but that's it. And even during the day when he sleeps in the bed, if I have a nap during the day, he's pretty good. He doesn't really bark that much during the day.

But at night, he seems to become more sensitive. More like listening out for the sounds. It's night time.

What be that noise? What be it? So yeah. So. All right.

So I was talking about doing three recordings in February. And then four recordings in March. And then five recordings in April.

So in two years time, I'll be doing about 28 recordings a day. Yeah. They'll have to last five minutes each for me to actually do that.

Wow. 28 recordings. So.

We'll see. That's my plan. And that's February starts tomorrow, doesn't it? So I need to decide tomorrow if I'm really going to do that or not, or if it's just I'm just making it up.

I might just be making it up. I might be lying to myself. Won't be the first time.

Calendar. Well, it's 28 days in February. That's that's nice.

I like a nice short month. See, it's the only month of the whole year. There's 28 days.

Did you know that? 28, 28, 28. Wow. I didn't know that.

It's only 28 days in February. But every other month is more. 31 days in March.

30 days in April. 31 days in May. June is 30.

July 31, August 31, September 30, October 31, November 30, December 31. I can never remember how many days in the month. I mean, I wish there was some kind of rhyme that I could learn that would teach me the days in the month.

It's January, so it's the end of the month now. So 31 days, very long month, very, very long. 28 days.

It's the first tomorrow, so Wednesday. I had a friend that used to do that. He was constantly releasing his inner cow.

We're talking to him, we go, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm,

hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm,

hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm and they're just bubbling away as ideas for now regarding both YouTube and the podcasts.

Ways to shake things up a bit, give more variety and perhaps have some different background music.

I even thought of maybe trying to create my own background music but it'd probably go do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do-do kind of have an idea around chords and for the type of music that I need for background for relaxation sessions is very just very slow very doesn't have to hugely melodic just just slow and ideally slowing down the longer it gets so there's more like um might start off and then it ends up you know nine hours later la la la la la and then when it gets a tenth hour maybe so yeah I can imagine some of you

are thinking please don't do your own recording don't don't make your own music please I beg you don't make your own music I might be able to I'm just AI stuff now that you can you can create music that's you know a bit itchy throat there's this oh here's something that he did a feeling last night I was sitting in the city and what I do when I've had me when I've had me dinner quite often I just lay back on on YouTube there'll be a a motivational talk let's say before I did this I

was listening to Brian Tracy or I listened to a nightingale and it might last an hour sometimes two hours I'm not necessarily going to listen to the whole thing just until I've you know had my fill maybe so I'm there with my eyes closed so I'm not asleep I'm just got my eyes closed relaxing so he comes up and I can't open my eyes a little bit and I can see he's like creeping up on me and this this is not good there's there's some breakfast cereal or something on my t-shirt that I dropped or

something maybe it was something on the t-shirt anyway and he started licking it and I thought okay fair enough so he's pushing down on the t-shirt while he's licking it next thing I hear is rip he's ripped my t-shirt open at the chest what what I just kept my eyes closed because I could not believe he just did that I mean to rip my clothes while I'm wearing them there's one thing you know destroying my you know the dirty clothing because it's on the floor but not to even wait until I've taken it off my

body I just I was almost in disbelief I was laying there thinking what let's just see how far this goes let's just I hope he doesn't try to eat me but yeah it was weird and so I still got the t-shirt on which just shows how grimy I am and it's just ripped completely open ripped I just wanted to remind myself of it the t-shirt I haven't got it on anymore of course I don't know I change my t-shirt every three hours so yeah I've been thinking about the future this year future haven't got a

huge amount planned as in appointments or anything like that I do have a doctor's appointment where they're going to test my blood pressure and give me some blood tests and you know give me an MOT as it were but since I last went to the doctors well you know I'm lighter or at least half a stone lighter so my blood pressure well I tested my blood pressure and it is lower than they said and come I think the appointments in a couple of weeks well just over a week I will have I might have lost

a bit more weight so my blood pressure should be down a little bit more as well I'm drinking way less coca-cola than I used to I do drink tea now cups of tea and water that's my main liquid really and maybe juice oh yeah vodka no I don't drink alcohol alcohol doesn't do anything for me anymore it used to I used to love drinking beer used to love it now nothing like zero zero part of me wants to drink beer or lager and less than zero wants to drink hard spirits there's not any part of

me that wants to isn't it weird I mean I don't it's not that I have an aversion I just just don't have any interest it's it's not like oh do you want to eat that dog poo sandwich of course not no it's disgusting but it's like well do you want to do you want to go on the roller coaster no in fact that would be more disgusting than the than the sandwich I'm not really into roller coasters I don't know what let's say oh do you want to do you want to be a passenger do

you want to get into the back of this two two-doored car squeezing the back with two other people and we're only going to drive for 20 minutes but do you want to sit in the back with two other people in this you know squeeze in there like no no you're all right thanks no thanks even if it was just me on my own no thanks but I don't mean me on my own because I can't drive and also if I could drive it was me on me and I wouldn't be sitting in the back would

I but that's like a no thanks and that's how I feel with what I was talking about unfortunately I've forgotten what I was talking about what was I talking about I distracted myself oh yeah alcohol that's it I'm just glad it didn't affect my memory okay so I I I did have some drinks last year yeah last year now I had a few drinks like when I was away and stuff but it just it's kind of pointless especially when it's hot being somewhere hot and drinking lager when really what you need is liquid and you're

drinking lager because you need liquid when a water would have done just as much to well better would have been better for me like for dehydration ironically there's an old old saying you know when I grew up with saying that hot tea is the best thing to quench your thirst okay and I always had a little bit of an issue with that one because you know I've we have hot weather here sometimes like really really hot days at times and never have I ever thought to myself where's the kettle let's take the kettle on I

need to cool myself down no not once but I was assured that was the case yeah nice cup of tea in the summer that cools you down so I spent a little while in a much hotter country than here and I didn't see one person drinking tea I don't think there was I didn't see one I didn't see any tea available there's some coffees but most of the coffees were like cold coffees you know like a cold coffee and then ice added which I'm guessing cools the coffee pretty quickly I'm guessing now I didn't see

people walking around drinking tea not one person when I was walking around sweating said to me why don't you have a cup of tea that'll help when you have some really boiling hot water put that into your into your mouth put some hot water into your and just like that that will help to cool you down let's just check if it's true does tea tea quench first cool you down in summer all right does good in the summer according to professor Peter McNaughton a neuroscience at the University of Cambridge consuming hot beverages such as tea

or hot water will raise your will raise your core body temperature and this makes you sweat at an increased rate you don't have to be a neuroscientist to know that you put something hot into your body it's not going to cool your body down is it hot water how's that gonna and this says here do people drink tea to cool down ice tea can help you cool down in two ways because it's liquid and it's ice and it's cold yeah okay well it's these three-year-olds writing this stuff what can I drink to cool down in

the summer why should you drink tea in hot weather okay the benefits of hot drinks in summer someone's written down the phenomenon of sweating is part of our thermoregulation by releasing heat at skin level the body temperature decreases result the hot drink indirectly produces a cooling effect conversely a very cold drink will send the opposite message to the brain so what they're saying is by sweating cools down the body and if it's hot you're already sweating aren't you so really a hot cup of tea is only needed by someone that is unable to sweat but

naturally I mean I still remember this this nurse that I used to date and I saw her jogging it was a really sunny day this is like I wasn't with her anymore and I said hello hello we've been we've been friendly and she stopped and uh I was sweating it was hot and she'd been running and she wasn't sweating and she said oh it shows you're unhealthy if you're sweating I said what remembering you know that she's a nurse a qualified nurse with medical training yeah sweating if you sweat when it's hot means you're unhealthy

yeah I said well you're not sweating you're jogging no it's a good sign if you're jogging you don't sweat means you're not but you're healthy okay see you later then it's like what would you what really do healthy people sweat when jogging okay when running should we say running yeah let's have a look while it is common this is this is the internet telling me okay while it is common to feel a little self-conscious about sweating during running do remember that everybody sweats and it's nothing to be ashamed of as noted above it is often

a sign that you are getting fitter if you start to sweat sooner is it good for you to sweat when you run the primary benefit of sweating you when you work out is that sweat helps sweat helps to cool your body down it also gets rid of toxins does it not prevent you from overheating so if you're heating if it's hot you sweat because your body's cooling itself down it means the body's working my man the body's working does sweating more mean you're healthy all right that's probably not true is it i mean i'm fat

as a whale and i sweat just you know i mean i sweat for 10 people doesn't mean that i'm healthy because i sweat more i paint a lovely picture of myself it says does sweating more mean you're healthy not at all people sweat for many reasons such as hot weather nervousness a fever exercise and being in a sauna honestly i feel like i'm two years old reading this like oh really see you sweat when you're in a sauna oh and then it goes on to say sweating can dehydrate us really it's almost like when you

sweat the salt leaves your body oh no i know i i didn't listen to anything when i went to school but i must have heard something because this is just the basics isn't it real basics it's like how do you know that how do you know that sweat has got salt in it because i've tasted it yeah i'd like to say just my own but it's not just my own sweat i've tasted and i know it's salty it's salt is released through the sweat you know i like the taste of sweat i do i love

it when i've been running or working out walking up the stairs walking too quickly into the kitchen and i'm sweating and everything up it's lovely it's dripping all off me like it's a nice drink in fact you can drink and no i'll stop i'll stop but when i used to go to boxing and bearing in mind it was mainly kids there there's a few adults mainly kids which i wasn't really a big fan of but you know what can i do it was the aba club it was the local club it was the amateur boxing

club and it was open to older people they didn't want older people there and all the parents well most of the parents the kids were there watching so i had an audience well me and my belly had an audience running around and it was just yeah i didn't really enjoy the audience because that didn't happen in any other thing like taekwondo um karate wing chun or any other stuff that i've done in the past the parents wait outside in the car or they come and pick them up afterwards they leave them there then they come

and pick them up the occasional one will stay and watch you know but generally they won't you wouldn't have like uh 15 20 parents all just sitting around watching the thing which is what happened at the boxing club didn't didn't like it but i went because i i love boxing and i wanted to train and learn a bit of stuff i did it for about a year a year or maybe a year and a half but when i went there every time i went there i was drenched i mean i could ring out my t-shirt

amount of water would come out well sweat would come out every single time and i remember after about six months i turned up and one of the trainers said you're losing weight that's it that's enough any he wasn't looking at my belly and i thought okay why don't you look at i said what do i look slim they said no you've only you've now only got four chins it's like okay yeah i fell into that one what's that noise i thought i heard something in the background mind if anyone knocks on the door vinnie will

let me know he's my personal alarm system anyone walks into the building he lets me know so when i did wing chun as well i used to sweat used to sweat a lot and taekwondo the difference is with the taekwondo because i had a gi which is to i'm sure you've seen like martial arts judo karate they have those white suits and they do soak up the sweat they're really good for that i mean i was so sweating and everything but it kind of soaked it up so that was good so i wasn't quite so

bad um it would drip out of my it'd drip out of my the bottoms of my trousers i mean at one point it did say look if you need to go to the toilet just go to the toilet you haven't got to do on the mat i said look i didn't it wasn't me it was not we this is sweat he said no there's so much of it are you sure i said yes he said you might need to see a doctor i said no look it's not just and i picked you know i should

have done this but i dabbed my finger and i said look taste look it's not and like he never looked at me the same again after that it's just i just like i was trying to prove that it wasn't wee wee and he yeah oh well so yeah even at the gym when i go to if i go to a gym i always absolutely sweat through the t-shirt i could be in the gym let's say if i was in the gym for an hour just doing basic stuff nothing particularly heavy a bit of running a

bit a little bit of weights a bit of rowing a bit of you know just general stuff for an hour taking my time i could get through three t-shirts in that time soak through three t-shirts maybe the last one would be semi-soaked semi-semi-soaked it perhaps it wouldn't be soaked all the way through the third one but the first two definitely the first one and i quite like that feeling of and this isn't a new thing this isn't just when i got big i used to sweat when i was whenever i did training i would sweat

when i was a kid if i did physical labor physical manual labor labor if i was digging the garden or whatever i would sweat just this what happens and i don't think i was a particularly sweaty kid at school but maybe i was i don't remember i can't i can't remember oh wait a minute did did you used to call me sweaty jason maybe that's why oh i never thought about that i never put that together sweaty jason then it turns to bo jason but like oh i don't think i mean at school i remember

like probably about the age of 12 it just stunk there was that period between not wearing deodorant and wearing deodorant and it seemed that like at least a quarter of the the year or the school weren't wearing deodorant because they didn't need it i didn't think they needed it yet it was smelly very smelly especially oh man especially games like we had football and stuff like that and the changing rooms absolutely stunk it got even worse when everyone else came in as well so it was oh but then i'd never have a bath or a

shower rather in not in life i mean i think i had two showers the whole time i was at high school during school time i got to wear this and now i think that sounds strange to have a shower during school time but i didn't like it i didn't want to get undressed in front of i i didn't i didn't i don't know i didn't want i didn't want to know people that well i didn't want to know what they looked like naked and i still don't you know it's something that we can just have

a bit of privacy i just i didn't care when i was eight or nine and you know i was very unaware of all that stuff i didn't care you know i'd run around on the beach just with me me um swim swimming pants on and when i was like seven eight nine even ten maybe even eleven i didn't care because i just had a kid's body you know i wasn't i was just skinny little skinny little thing but then when everyone else started developing and getting like muscles and stuff and i was still a little

kid i was like oh i don't like this yeah i became a little bit self aware as it were of my should we say shortcomings shall we call it that shall we yes yes let's call it that yeah i was never really um yeah not a fan of that and yeah i mean even when i did karate we didn't used to go into the shower i think i think one man used to used to go into the shower but i think because we had the changing rooms because it was in a school it was actually

in the other high school but i didn't go to the one that two of my brothers went and so i went there for my karate when i was 14 my karate my karate club did i ever tell you that i probably have it's not an interesting story but that it fits it fits right in then doesn't it i kept on at the at paul his name was paul brilliant bloke he was the instructor and he i kept saying to him can my little brother come along and he said no we don't teach anyone under the

age of i think it might have been 13 maybe 12 at that time my brother was seven seven i said no but you know you've got you've got opportunity here we could start a new like a new thing like on a saturday morning or something like that so eventually he gave in and he said okay if you can bring him and get some more kids to come along and you have to you have to teach them so um and he basically opened up a saturday night saturday morning class for everyone but i'd be at the

back with the little kids there's only like three kids and then it grew to like four five six and and then you know the family split up and he moved away so it kind of all came to nothing but it was weird because so we started that it was my idea and paul the karate man um much more than a karate man brilliant brilliant bloke and i wish that i'd stuck with him and stuck at the club because my whole life would have been different i think i'd had more discipline more structure um in a

way if you're a member of a karate club or i can box in judo martial arts something like that there is that correlation with being in the armed forces from a discipline perspective i mean it's that's a lot different it's a lot different but there is a discipline you know when you get when you go into the dojo even if it is just a sports hall in a school it's a dojo it's a special place you bow when you go in and you bow and you leave you bow when you talk to the sensei or

sir the teacher and you do what he tells you or she tells you you also do what the higher grades tell you to do and you you stand in a certain order so the black belts are at the front then the brown belts and it goes down like that and whoever's been there longer whoever's been there the shortest time is at the end of the queue as it were right at the back and then gradually they move up and everybody knows who's who and it was very similar in the sea cadets you know the i

i whoever was i don't know i um i think abel seaman was at the i can't say that word about laughing able and it's they was at the front and then i think i was a junior seaman do you i forget but i got it took me two years to get my first badge and i i was the long it took me longer than anyone else in the history of the sea cadets to get the first badge you know the thing on my shoulder no one else had took that long to get it and they

gave me a standing ovation when they gave it to me because they couldn't believe how long it took because i put no effort in like none in fact i joined before i was even allowed i wasn't allowed to join until i was 12 and i joined when i was 11 i lied about my age because i just wanted to get out of the house and so i was there for until i was 13 and i was i was sort of so i was going there every two nights a week and then weekends and i've not

really talked about the sea cadets have i much i should do a recording talk more about that that was quite a big part of my childhood really it's just i didn't like it but i did like it but i didn't it's one of those weird things uh did i tell you that i nearly joined the army and i also nearly joined the navy a couple of years later yeah when i was in the in the chip shop realizing that i was going nowhere fast or nowhere slowly you could say i was i was like i

had to get out of there but i didn't know what to do how to how to escape so i was 16 and i went to the next town and i just thought i'm gonna join the army now at this point i think my brother was already in the navy so i was like maybe copying copying him a bit but because i'd been in he was in the i was in the sea cadets he was in the he was in a different cadets to me at different forces cadets so i was in the sea cadets and

then he joined the navy and i was going to join the army so i guess i wanted to i wasn't quite sure but i thought oh that's a good idea i'll have a home i'll ever you know get a career and whatever so i went there i did the physical which was easy i mean i was really super fit back then so that was nothing they chucked at me was going to be difficult uh i did the written test which i passed i can't believe i passed it i still to this day think that he

filled in the maths part for me because i've always had i'd like to say that i've got a block with black with um well i need so different whether a block with maths or a problem with maths because almost like i'm telling that to myself and it's negative but i've had an issue with it my whole life i just have just numbers don't seem to really resonate with me so much so i passed that i passed the the physical like the doing uh press-ups and push-ups and all that stuff i passed the medical you know

blood tests and uh checking for everything and i mean i was perfect health at 16 which but most people are really i guess something that's that kind of age everything was absolute tip-top tippy and i'd only stopped doing the karate probably a year before so i hadn't done karate since i was 15 so yeah been maybe 10 months a year and so i was still kind of working out a bit still training and a little bit you know and then all i had to do right all i had to do was go away for the

weekend for weekends training and pass that and once i passed that i would sign on the dotted line and i'd be away for the training the proper you know 16 week training or however long it is and i was due to go i think it was like a monday morning or it might not probably wouldn't be with it weekend so probably it might have been midweek but it might have been friday and i was ready to go and i backed down i backed right out of it i was i don't remember why it's too long

ago i don't remember why i remember some of the ins and outs of it of you know i even kind of remember the man that i used to deal with i mean he'd be about 120 years old now but it just yeah i backed out decision making wasn't always my strongest thing i can't decide what the right word is but it's decision makers not always been my strongest suit or suite or whatever and yeah i mean i do wonder what my life would have been like if i'd have done that if i'd have gone down

that route and was 16 done 12 years i'd have got out at 30 but then what would i have done you know but in a way my life didn't really begin till i was 30 in some ways i didn't really have a my first proper job till i was 30 as far as like well 31 working in a call center i say proper job but i mean you know like with a like a big company with benefits and hr come you know h and a human resources department stuff like that i've never no actually that's

not true i've worked in a bakery and i worked in a factory as well they had human resources but i never stayed anywhere very long but i was with the insurance company for a couple of years two and a half years or something september 2001 until november 2003 and how long was that september 2002 september 2003 october november so yeah two two years two months that's how long i was at that company i do wonder again about that place so i left i left because of illness so if i was still there i might be

like the manager i might be the manager the managing director of the whole thing i might be the boss i might have collected so many um shares of the company that i overtook everyone and now i'm the then this uvc of the company or whatever they call them yes not yes you you not uranus what what's the name to the man in charge the woman in charge the person in charge executive producer i don't know whatever so yeah so my brother he went to the karate club on a saturday and saturday morning this was about

an hour hour and a half so i was teaching because it's very basic i was like a green belt i think so it's very basic stances and you know punches and kicks and stuff and the train would come out a poor come and make sure that i was okay and everything was fine and it was just cool the thing is my brother didn't want to do it anymore and shortly after that he moved to another part of the country with his mom so but what happened after that is it grew so those little kids more

little kids joined and now and then they had black a few years later they had black belts you know the first the first like 11 year old black belt in the area i mean other other parts of the country have little kids doing karate but they just didn't in that town so he was in his area it was a new thing so you know it's quite weird to think that we had an impact that is forgotten so anyone that goes to that karate club who's maybe i don't know nine years old is going there because

of my little brother because he started it well i started it why didn't start like obviously the the main man started it you know to paul who was in charge but i kind of talked him around and it was just like wow so it's interesting so it's at that little effect and imagine how how much positive positive benefit that's had for hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of kids over the last 40 odd years because it's a long time ago maybe not 40 years but it's we're talking 1980 1985 1985 95 95 2005 2015 blimey so

it is nearly 40 years it's sort of it's over 32 years do you mean 38 well 38 is over 32 isn't it yeah thank you very much so i i was like wow so that's something but quite cool love and i actually saw my little brother use karate once when he was being picked on and that was like i was so pleased with him and you know he went through school never got picked on so even that the karate i taught him at home the karate i taught him on the thing what he learned obviously

from others as well even though he wasn't there for a long long time i think he did it for a few months that gave him confidence and he was always always confident he still is confident and it gave him that confidence within himself and bearing in mind he left went to a different part of the country didn't have any of his bigger brothers with him anymore so i wasn't with him the other two brothers weren't with him in fact he ended up being the big brother because he had two little kids come into life come

into life come into the world like a few years later so he's the big brother but he did it's done good for himself so i was pleased i just think that helped him especially having that little kid pick on him and then him dealing with it realizing that and this kid was older than him as well bigger and older there's a neighbor seeing what he could do made him realize that ah it just i think it clicked in his head and obviously his benefit that he's not a little bloke either he takes after my dad

he's broad strong muscly kind of fella so that's that's probably not not being harmful either in the sense of um being able to have a bit of confidence as well like body confidence or whatever not that i really talked to him about body confidence i wouldn't know i mean i've not really i had body confidence for four days once back in 1999 i was very confident of my body four different days so four different fridays in a row and then it just sort of went yeah so yeah i nearly joined the army the navy in

1990 1990 i nearly joined the navy and i was about to i think i got the bloke dissuaded me because he told me because this was at the end of 1990 and he warned me he said well if you do there's certain things going to be happening in 91 that you might not want to be a part of okay and then 91 came along and i thought wow this is supposed to be out what supposed to know about this beforehand he did so this was uh he kind of warned me off really saying no just

unless you really are passionate about joining the navy and you want to do it i don't suggest you do it plus i mean i was old then i was what 19 i'd like to get you when you're young 19 still still young obviously but i think 16 is a better age because they can kind of shape you they're more like clay at 16 19 yeah a bit more rock a bit harder a bit more i don't know what i'm talking about and just making it up or making it up to go long so that's it

for me thank you very much indeed all the best etc etc now you don't want to say next remember to be kind to yourself be gentle with yourself you deserve to be happy lots of love bye
