Hello and welcome to let me bore you to sleep. Please only listen when you can safely close your eyes. My name's Jason Newland, and my website address is jasonnewland.com. I wasted a little bit of time, didn't I? Hello everybody, how you doing? How you well? Hi, hi, hey, hey, hmm, hmm, yeah, hmm, how are you? Yeah, good.
So yeah, welcome, welcome to jasonnewland.com. Let me bore you to sleep. I'm me. I'm me.
Hello. Yep, so, Saturday, it's Saturday the 11th of June, 2022, and 1.33 in the afternoon. I'm sitting here.
It's quite a bright sunny day, so it is. A little bit cloudy, but very bright. I see some blue sky out there.
A little bit breezy, a little bit breezy, but it's quite nice. I can hear the birds, and I can hear a plane in the distance. And you don't know why I'm talking like this.
I just do. I just talk like this for no reason. Yeah, don't think, feel.
It's like the finger pointing to the moon. Don't concentrate on the finger, or you'll miss all that heavenly glory. Not a great impression of Sylvester Stallone, but never mind.
Hi, how are you? Oh, yeah, been working on my website and the podcasts for the last few days. And you might be thinking, well, if you've been working on a podcast, how come there hasn't been a new recording for three days? Let me explain. Give me some time.
Wow. Don't pressure me, man. Well, here's what I have been doing.
To start with, I was over a month behind on updating my website. So there was a lot of recordings that I had not updated on the website, including, you know, recordings that you could stream or download. So that took quite a while, because, you know, there's a degree of organization and there's a process.
And although it's not hard, I need to track what I've done. So, you know, so make sure that I've done it correctly. So I got that done.
So that's good. The second thing that I'm behind on is putting in the details, the copyright details for the music, the background music that I use. Now, it's from Kevin MacLeod, the music, and I can use it.
It's free to use, but I need to be putting his details. Now I have for loads and loads of recordings, I have put his details, but I'm a little bit behind on doing that. So, and at the same time, I've been thinking, I need to make some changes to that information that I put on each and every podcast episode, both on the podcast and on my website as well.
And that information that I'm now posting includes the copyright information, links to the websites, their websites, also contact information for me. So there's the link to the contact form on my website. There is my email address.
There is also my postal address. So if you want to contact me, send me a letter or card or gifts or whatever, you know, Christmas, birthday, you know, whatever. So that's that's my address there.
So you can contact me wherever you are in the world. And the last thing would be my PayPal link to my PayPal account. If you would like to gift me or and there's also my email address that's used my PayPal account.
And then there's my website. So I've got all that information that I'm now posting on every single episode of all my podcasts and on the website as well. Now, God, those those windows really do rattle, don't they? You hear that? The windows rattling? Oh, strange.
So the I need to do some washing. Need to have a bath. So the I'm also changing because on my website, I used to have all of the recordings on one page.
So there'd be the original recording and then there wouldn't be one with the background music and stuff like that. So now I've separated everything. So there's just one recording per page.
Everything's organized, you know, so you got the original recording without music. You got the recording with background music. You got the five hour and 10 hour one.
So that's all split up and organized on the website for each podcast. I am I am behind on the Deep Sleep Whisper recordings. So I'm I'm up to date with the ones without music, but the ones with music or background and with music.
I still need to make pages and do that for those, but that will be another time. I can't do that now because I'm in the middle of. Posting the information in each of the podcasts and pages I've already done.
So I've already done I've completed the. Relax and sleep hypnosis daily. So all of those are now done, so that's all updated.
I'm now doing the Deep Sleep Whisper hypnosis podcast. And. There are let me have a look.
I've got it all written down on my big pad, so I keep track of what I've done. There's 438 episodes to do. And so far I've updated 141 of the podcasts.
But not a no 141 podcasts on the website, so I've not done the actual podcast yet. But as I go into the website, I'm also rearranging. The page as well because I have to delete some stuff.
A lot of them have already got the copyright information anyway, so I have to over overwrite that. But some of them have got some. Bits and bobs I need to delete to tidy up, so I'm tidying as I go along.
Now I realize this might be completely meaningless to some people. Don't know what I'm talking about. It would be easier with visuals, I guess like if I showed you what I was doing.
But maybe I've not explained it very well, but it's OK. I'm OK with that. I'm not.
I'm not quite sure how to explain it. I know what I'm doing. I know what I need to do, and I know I've been doing this for a long time, so I kind of know in my head.
Exactly the process I need to go through to get this complete. Explaining it. I don't know.
I mean, it's not complicated in a sense of. I guess I should be able to explain it easily, but I don't. It's just a lot of it's in my head.
And know what to do as I do it. You know, as I said, it's all planned. So and at the same time, I'm also.
Sharing all of my podcasts again onto YouTube. I did this before and I deleted them all. And I lost lots of views.
Because I was going to just focus on videos only and not sharing the podcasts. Well. I've kind of going back the other way.
So I've decided to start sharing every podcast episode that I've done onto YouTube. Now it's going to be a bit annoying for YouTube. Some of my subscribers because they're going to get inundated with new content.
And that's just the way it is for now. You know, not a lot I can do about it. There's going to be thousands of recordings uploaded or shared over the next week or so.
Hopefully I'll be able to complete it within a week or two. It's going to take that long. Because there's a lot of recordings.
I hope to complete what I'm doing with the updating the information on the podcast and the website. I hope that's going to be completed by next weekend. So I'll give myself another 7 days.
Hopefully by Sunday. So like today is Saturday. Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
So if I give myself 9 days. Hopefully Monday week. Not this Monday coming but the week Monday after.
It will all be completed. But I'm not, you know, I can't really. I like to focus on just one thing and get it done.
But because this is so tedious. It's very repetitive. And I can focus, you know, I do have the ability to focus.
But it's a little bit boring. And, you know, I can do maybe 100. You know, modify or edit, re-edit 100 pages.
And then I have to have a break. And it's not even that I'm tired. It's just I need to do something else because I'm just staring at the screen.
Copy, paste, tick, copy, paste, tick, copy, paste, tick. You know, keeping track of everything that I'm doing. And it's just very boring.
It's just administration stuff. Although it's boring, it's very important as well. Especially the copyright.
That's important to have that on there. Now it is on a lot of the stuff. I'm overriding it.
With the new information, you know, like the new postal address and stuff. So I'll be glad when it's done. I'll be, that'll be good.
I'll focus on that. Get it over and done with. But I don't really want to wait a week or nine days before I start making new recordings.
So, I don't remember. When did I do my last, I'm going to check. When, da da da, da da da.
Just see when the last one I did was. 9th of June. It's now the 11th.
That's only two days ago. But yesterday. I've noticed, if I don't do a new recording.
Then the stats do go down. Depending. I mean, I did a stop smoking recording.
I don't know, beginning of the week. And the stats went up. So that, you know, that was.
I don't know if it was any good or if people liked it. But, you know, people were listening to it. So, it's.
I need to be doing at least two recordings a day. Because I'm trying to maintain quite a few different podcasts. And I think they've all got separate audiences.
I mean, there's a crossover. Because I shared them on certain podcasts. But the Deep Sleep Whisperer.
Let Me Bore You To Sleep. Relax and Sleep Hypnosis Daily. Those three podcasts have possibly got different audiences.
And then there's the. Chronic Pain Relief. Although I haven't done much of that.
I want to do more of the pain relief stuff. In the coming months. And I'd like to do more of the stop smoking stuff.
Because the way I operate. I don't really do. I wouldn't say that I really do like a one recording.
Or that's it situation. I'm more of a very gentle. Slow.
I'm slow. I know I'm slow. I do think quite quickly sometimes.
So I'm not necessarily. I'm not slow as in. Because you know.
Usually call someone slow. And it's an insult. Or a judgment to their intelligence.
Now. I'm not. I'm not particularly intelligent.
I'm just me. I don't know. I did do an intelligence test.
Once IQ test or something. And I came just above average. You know.
I mean literally on the border. And. I'm just kind of just standard.
Pretty much same as anyone else. Nothing. Ain't nothing special about me.
About my brain. Although I do have a weird brain. And.
I don't know what's. There's something wrong. I mean.
If I was at school now. I would be in a special class. I was in a special class when I was at school.
So I was. Special needs when I was a child. It's you know.
But it wasn't called that. It was just called the dunce class. But.
But that wasn't. I don't know what that was. Because.
I'm going in a different direction now. I think about intelligence. And I think about education.
And. I don't really necessarily. I got a different view about intelligence.
To I think maybe what the specialists have. Which. I mean.
I guess they know what they're doing. And I. You know. Who am I to sort of say that.
They've got it wrong. But. I don't think it's quite as simple.
As. Being able to learn. You know.
The way someone can learn. Have it. So someone.
The idea that someone has learning difficulties. Means that they're not intelligent. I don't believe that.
I don't. Actually. Because.
I. I had learning difficulties. I still do. Actually.
In some cases. If you stick a form in front of me. Sometimes my brain shuts down.
Like literally. I get physically weak. And I feel ill.
I don't know. Don't judge me. I don't know why.
It's been like that. My whole life. I've pushed through it sometimes.
And these days. I try and get help. With a form.
I'll give you an example. I was at the airport. And.
I think it was. I think it was Dubai airport. I think.
This is a few weeks ago. And. I. I went to.
I needed to get onto the plane. To go to Thailand. And the lady.
There was. There was. I think two men.
One woman. And they were security. Or part of the.
Not immigration. But you know. They were part of the security there.
And. I went to go through. And she said.
You need. A. I said. I've got my boarding pass.
She said. Yeah. But you need to fill a form in as well.
I forget what they called it. But without that. You don't get.
You don't get through. So in order to get through. The.
The section. Where they let you into the lounge. You know.
The boarding lounge. I needed that form. To get through there.
Or to get through security. I can't remember. There was so many different security.
Checks and stuff. I lose track of what was what. And I said.
Okay. She said. Do you have one? I said.
No. I don't know. I just.
This is what I was given. And. She.
I felt that they were laughing at me. Not. Not her.
But. The two men. Because I started laughing.
To themselves. You know. Like talking.
And I. Didn't like that. If I'm honest. Didn't feel very comfortable.
Because. I felt like they were laughing. That I didn't know what I was doing.
But I didn't know what I was doing. I didn't really know the system. And I was getting a bit.
Flustered. If I'm honest. I was getting.
Anxious. And like. Oh.
And because. I had to go to the toilet. When I got off the plane.
Of the previous plane. At Dubai. I. I was there on my own.
Because everyone had already gone through. So I was kind of. I was.
There was no. I couldn't see. What anyone else was doing.
So I couldn't copy them. Anyway. The lady.
Gave me this. She. I said.
I don't know what to do. She gave me this form. I think she said.
Just go over there. And fill it in. I went over.
And. I couldn't see. The writing.
The writing was too small. I couldn't see it. I didn't have.
My reading glasses on. And I couldn't. But even without.
My reading glasses. You know. If I take my glasses off.
I can normally. That's. My eyesight's better.
To see. Like. Really small writing.
I couldn't see it. It was too small. Couldn't see.
What it was. What it said. And I went over to her.
I said. Look. I can't see the writing.
It's too small. Could you. Help me please.
And she said. Okay. And she walked me back to the table.
And she asked me the questions. And then I. She filled it in. I said.
Thank you very much. I really appreciate it. Thank you for your help.
But the two blokes were still laughing. They weren't pointing at me. But they was like.
Oh. Some people say. That's.
It was. It was a mixture. I couldn't see them.
But also. I was getting. Flustered.
And my. It was almost like. My brain was just.
Shutting down on me. Like. I can't handle this.
This is too complicated. Oh. And she helped me.
And got it done. Now. I can't be a complete dumb dumb.
Because I've just traveled. Half way around the world. On my own.
So I managed to. You know. Do it.
I managed to get through. And. You know.
Get all the right flights. And do everything correctly. But it's just.
Hard. It was a little bit hard. So I think that.
When I was at school. And it's the same now. Really I guess.
Is. I don't. I don't hold on to information.
That doesn't. Interest me. I just.
I mean. I don't test that very often. Because why would I. I don't even.
Why would I. Try and. I'm not at school anymore. So I don't have to read books.
That don't interest me. Or watch a documentary. That doesn't interest me.
Or. You know. It's nothing for me to learn.
Other than stuff I'm interested in. Generally. I mean.
Of course there is things. That we. All need to learn.
That perhaps we're not. Excited about. But.
Generally. I'm. You know.
I don't need to do much of that. So I can focus on the things. That I do like.
But when I'm interested in something. The stuff does stick. So.
I mean. When I was. I mean.
This is going to sound really bad. Really. When I was at school.
In junior school. Which is the. The school.
Before going to high school. So. Up to the age of 11.
I was at junior school. Well no. 10.
11. And then I turned 11. Just before I went to high school.
For 5 years. Junior school. I. Enjoyed.
I didn't enjoy the sports. Because. I didn't like how rough people got.
I didn't like the. I was never. A big fan of boys.
And how rough and. Tumbly they would be. I just.
I guess I had enough of that. At home. Because I had 3 brothers.
And it used to annoy me. And that. Getting excited over.
A ball. Now I'm not. Criticizing anyone that loves.
Sports or watching it and stuff. Great. But I just couldn't.
At that age. Couldn't really. Get excited about it.
Plus I was no good at it. I was no good at football. I was no good at basketball.
I was too short for basketball. I couldn't even see the hoop. And I was.
Cricket. First time I played cricket. And I was in goal.
Shows you how much I know about cricket. So I'm there. With the.
Baseball bat or whatever. And. The ball was thrown at me.
And it hit me in the knee. Absolutely destroyed my knee. I was on the floor.
I don't know if I was crying. I think I probably chased the bloke. With a bat.
If anything. I was very angry. Very bit.
It really hurt. And I never played cricket after that. Refused.
That was it. Rounders I liked. Now in America.
Rounders is. Baseball. It's not exactly the same.
But it's pretty much the same. And I used to like that. Because that made sense.
You know. Someone chucks a ball at you. If it hits the stuff behind.
Or if the person behind you catches it. Or whatever. Then you're out.
Great. If you hit the ball. You run around.
As far as you can. And basically it was. How many times you could run around.
There wasn't. You didn't like stop at certain. Actually you might have done actually.
But you know. It's like running around. It's like.
Yeah. This is fun. And everyone tries to.
You know. Chuck the ball back. And stuff.
Chuck it back to the person. Behind you. Or whatever.
Before you get. Before you finish. The running.
And then you're out. Or whatever. It's just like.
Yeah. This. This is actually a good game.
I liked rounders. We used to call it softball. As well.
Because. I don't know why. But it's the same thing.
Softball. Just be a softer ball. It's the same thing.
And. So I used to like that. Although I did hurt my thumb once.
The ball hit my hand. See. When everyone.
If ever I got hurt. At school. In a sports game.
I'd get angry. And if I was holding. A bat.
Or something. I would chase the person with it. And.
I got banned from hockey. Because someone. Hit me in the shins.
And. I was chasing them. Down the.
The field. With the hockey stick. Trying to hit them.
I'm not sure if I did hit them. I can't remember. But I was banned.
I wasn't allowed to play hockey anymore. So I was. I don't know.
I never really. Really. Because I was never good at any of it.
I mean tennis. I wasn't particularly good at. I liked tennis.
But it was one of those games that. It was very weather dependent. Because it was always outside.
And. Living in the UK. Of England.
Commonwealth. Britain. It's very.
The weather's. All over the place. I mean literally you could say.
Oh it's a lovely day. Everyone get changed. I'll be in a minute to watch a shower.
You know the teachers that is. And. Get ready.
We're gonna play tennis. And then when you. When you get outside.
It's raining. You know. So it's.
The weather changes so quickly. Sometimes. So.
The thing is. The only time I played tennis. Was with my friend.
And I was better than him. And that was annoying. Because I was.
Everyone else was better than me. Apart from him. So I had no choice.
I could play someone that. I could never win with. Or I could play someone.
That could never beat me. It was just. Boring.
I didn't have anyone that was almost like. The same level as me. Which was.
Just be. Just above rubbish. I was just above.
My friend was rubbish. I was just above rubbish. And.
There wasn't a lot in it. To be honest. But he didn't care.
He was my friend. And we didn't care about sports. During football.
We would stand. Near. The goal post.
And just spin around. Till it got a bit dizzy. And then just fall over.
And we'd just do that. Basically pretending to be Wonder Woman. So although we'd be there.
We'd be a reserve. So we didn't have to play. Always picked last.
Both of us. Well me. Quite often.
I was picked last. Which for some reason. Like for football.
I was picked last. And. It tickled.
And made. Made Tom. He laughed his head off.
He couldn't stop laughing. I mean. Once I got to the point.
I wanted to push him out of his wheelchair. Yeah. So laughing.
He got picked before me. To play football. It's like.
It's not funny. It's just. I don't know what people.
What their issues were. I think it's because I didn't care. And I didn't put any effort in.
Although once I did. Score. A treble.
But they were all home goals. I didn't realise. Because no.
In my defence. I didn't realise that. I don't use it.
I discovered this. A few years later. That the team swapped sides.
At half time. I didn't know that. So technically.
I was aiming for the right goal. Had it been. You know.
Ten minutes earlier. And I've. You know.
I've talked about this before. The only thing I was any good at. Was dodgeball.
And I was. I'd say probably the best. Or one of the best.
At that. Especially like. In my early years.
First. Second year. When I was tiny.
And I was like a little. I don't know. A little frog.
Just like jumping around and. Avoiding the ball. To the point where.
The teacher would just say. That's enough. We have to go home eventually.
I used to love it. It was the only thing I was any good at. But in junior school anyway.
Going back to junior school. It didn't force us to learn stuff. It was so relaxed.
I mean with junior school. We just had to turn up. As long as you turned up.
That was enough. And. I. I don't remember really learning much.
In the way of maths. I mean my maths ability. Is still probably that of a. Ten year old really.
I've not. My maths brain. Is about ten.
It's basic addition. Multiply. Take away.
Subtract or whatever. A few fractions. And.
Percentages. Which is fractions isn't it. So.
Yeah. It's not much more than that. I did used to know how to.
Make a calculator. Say boobs. But that wasn't really.
Technically. Didn't make me a mathematical genius. So.
Unfortunately. But English. I was.
I loved English. Because. It was reading.
Basically. And I loved reading. So I had to take a book.
I'd read a book every night. They weren't big books. Maybe.
Just you know. They were children's books. So they weren't big.
But I'd read them. I'd read one every single night. Sometimes.
And I bring it back the next day. So I can get another one. I love it.
I love love love love love love. Love reading. And when it came to writing.
I enjoyed that. Because. I put everything into it.
How to do joined up writing. And. Is that what you call cursive.
In America. Joined up writing. I'm not sure.
I don't know what cursive is. Is it joined up writing. And.
So. Joined up writing. And learning.
I think if you read. A lot. You kind of see.
How. Words are. Kind of presented on a page.
As well as how they're spelt. And. The fact that.
Every sentence starts with a capital letter. And every sentence finishes with. A full stop.
And just those. Very basic things. Is you learn by reading.
Because you see it constantly. Although. When I was at university.
And I did my first. Essay. My tutor said to me.
Have you ever heard of paragraphs. Apparently. I was writing too much stuff.
In one go. You know. I think she.
Couldn't handle more than about. Five lines. Without a break.
Or four lines without a break. She needed constant paragraphs. Now I've read books.
Where a paragraph would last half the page. And then another paragraph. But she.
I guess she struggled with that. But. I don't know.
Didn't really know what the etiquette was for essays. Because I'm never ever going to write another essay. Ever.
Never ever going to go to university. Or college. Or do anything like that ever again.
That's it. That's done. Don't like it.
I can't believe I did it. I can't believe I managed to get a degree. But I didn't like it.
Didn't like one second of it really. Apart from the practical. I like the practical side.
But the academic side. Didn't like it. Never liked academic.
Anything. But I had this need. This need.
To prove to myself. That I wasn't a dumb dumb. Maybe prove to other people.
That I wasn't a dumb dumb. But still didn't do the trick. Because after.
Getting my degree. I. A year later or whatever. I was diagnosed.
Diagnosed with bipolar. So. I think in some people's eyes.
In my. Circle of people. I became.
Even more of a dumb dumb. Because I was. That.
You know. Oh. That explains why you're so weird.
Was kind of. The vibe I was getting from people. Oh.
That explains it. Explains what. And you think that maybe that's just my personality.
That's how I am. This doesn't necessarily mean. Everything I say and do.
And everything I you know. Is because of an illness. Or a medical condition.
Which is. A medical condition. Makes me do weird noises.
But I enjoyed. Okay. I didn't enjoy school.
Even junior school. I can't say I enjoyed going out and doing it. It was always.
I found it boring. I found school boring. Right from the beginning.
But. Some parts were okay. So when I was in junior school.
I went there because I had to. You know. It's just what you do.
You have to go. Kind of can't question it really. You know.
Eight. Nine. Ten.
Whatever. You can't. Well I couldn't just do what I wanted to do.
Otherwise I'd have been at home watching telly. Eating chocolate. Which meant you know.
Imagine if I did that. I'd be fat now wouldn't I. Oh wait a minute. So.
I. I liked. Some of the crafty things. I say crafty.
I don't mean like dodgy. Manipulative thing. I mean crafty as in.
Well we used to. There's two things I enjoyed doing. One was cross stitching.
And you don't have to. Have. Anger issues to do that.
It is. It's fun. Well it was.
I mean it's a long time ago. And the other thing I did is. I used to make things out of balsa wood.
So I'd have balsa wood. And one of the things I liked to make was. Like a canoe.
And I could spend hours doing that. Like. Sanding it down.
And then use a knife to. Cut a little bit. I suppose it's whittling.
Is it whittling? Whittling. Is that a word? You know when you get a bit of wood. And you turn it into something.
Using a knife. So I used to. Kind of enjoy that.
I used to like reading. But anything else. I just didn't retain the information.
You know when it comes to. History. Or.
Geography. Mathematics. They tried.
They tried to teach me French. I think it was the last year of junior school. Tried to.
Like it wasn't just me they tried to teach. They had other kids there as well. But French.
I really at the time really thought. Well. Let me learn English first.
Let me get good at English. And I remember they used to have these slides. A big.
Screen. A big white screen. And show slides of.
French people. Having their breakfast. And having.
Warm milk. And bread. For breakfast.
And I thought. That's not a breakfast. Cornflakes is a breakfast.
Warm milk and bread. Now. I don't know even if it's true.
If. If they if France do eat. Warm bread and.
Milk and warm bread for breakfast. And good. Good for them if they do.
But. I just. Didn't really.
Haven't I learned some words. Mercy. Bonjour.
Petite. And I learned. Counting to 10.
Partly because my brother. Because my one of my brothers. Had learnt it at school.
And he kept repeating it. Over and over again. And.
And. And. And.
And. And. And.
And. And. And.
time I'm talking through the weekend constantly on the talker I think he actually counted to 20 but I didn't go past 10 because I knew I'd never need it and I haven't there's like one do talk about something see if next is nothing on the quartz of the day is he talking and he goes on you know it's a 20 like shut up and he kept repeating it to the point where it's stuck in my head forever and ever on the twa quattro is it quite obviously I'm stuck in my head is it on the
talker at 60 enough to do anyway whatever is under twice thanks it's gone I knew what it was I did it right the first time and I'm not said it out loud probably for 30 years I've never needed it never needed it in my life and I have been to France once well I went for a week but it was just traveling through the mountains and no one spoke to me I actually walked up to a few people I think was in Paris and walked up to a couple of people to ask directions and they
literally just looked at me and ignored me which was a little bit rude a little bit rude I think you might say was a little bit rude not to learn a language what for five days I'm gonna learn a language because I'm going somewhere for five days come on you know get a grip don't learn a language oh yeah but you're being ignorant you need to learn no I was on holiday if I'm gonna live there yeah of course if I want to live somewhere then I will I will need to learn some of the
language and if I'm going on a long holiday you know if I'm gonna go somewhere for a month again yeah maybe learn a few words I might want to communicate with some of the local people and I think it's it's useful to be able to know the basic words like thank you and please even if they don't use those words themselves even if even if they don't say thank you or please when they come to England and you know it's just because in England thank you and please and hello are three words that are very
important in this language in this society where I live saying hello although you can say all right hi mmm you can nod you know that necessarily you'd have to say anything but to acknowledge another person's existence especially if you're in a social situation or in a hotel or restaurant or in a shop you know it's just standard etiquette and to say please when you ask for something you can say please at the beginning or at the end of the sentence sometimes I do both please can you tell me where the dresses are please please can
you tell me where the bras I kept please you know and then when you when they give you the answer say thank you it just it's just English etiquette and it's what I was brought up to do so that's what I do so I would do that wherever I go so in Thailand Paki what is it tapika Kapika Kapika Kapika thank you Kapika Kapika some days they shorten it sometimes cap so like thanks and you know it's just under bowing when I in Thailand I bow but bow anyway I kind of I don't put my
hands together and bow when I'm here when I say thank you to someone I quite often bow and that's just my Buddhist history you know I've been around a lot of bowing you know for 20 years so when I say thank you I do nod my head like a kind of in a bowing I don't bow all the way down but I do nod my head to thank you just as a sign of respect I guess but it's just as something I just got used to doing so I can see it's useful to have the
basic a few basic words if you go in abroad Spain Italy France wherever but I'm not learning the language oh this is funny I remember I went to went to lunch with a group of friends and one of them chose the restaurant and this person was so excited because she'd been I think it was a Spanish restaurant and she'd been practicing her Spanish and she was really good and I ordered a food in Spanish and it was something she was really looking forward to and we got there and she started speaking in French Spanish and
the waitress just looked at her because the waitress was Romanian and it was so funny it's like I don't know what you're saying mate speak any Romanian or maybe English and she was so disappointed it was funny I don't know it's not a horrible way but it was just she really put a lot of effort into it as well I've been practicing because she'd go to Spain like once a year and someone you know she was she's really good at Spanish really spoke Spanish very well and just the look of the lady who was serving
the food when she started saying whatever and just looked at her like what are you saying any English do you English you know I'm English why don't you speak English then I can speak English and I'm not even from here you're from here yet you choose not to speak English why would you do that why you make you you you hmm why why boxing's on tonight and tomorrow morning as well so it's on in the evening and all night yeah in fact there's two boxing shows on tonight and during the nighttime or you know early
morning and I won't get to see one of them because it's not available yeah damn you oh well what was I gonna say I want to get when I got to high school I didn't I can't believe I was there for five years and I don't think I learned anything not really not didn't learn a huge amount of anything because even with English once I start talking about consonants and apostrophes and all the stuff like that like what are you talking about and I just switch off history I have I didn't listen really to anything
that was said there geography science no I even I did technical drawing I did art I couldn't I can't oh I was never any good at art I just just wasn't wasn't any good at anything it was almost like I was it wasn't I could get excited about something that I was good at that I could build upon if I had a natural aptitude towards something I think I'd have been okay now with RE religious education I was a little bit interested in religion because I'd already had been I'd lived with Catholic nuns and had
also gone through my own my own experience of Christianity I've talked about before but I went deeply got into it must just personally and so RE was something I was interested in I was quite interested in the different religions and the idea that people could have such well strange I guess I say just different but it seems strange to me belief systems and both my RE teachers I had three teachers I liked both my RE teachers and my maths teacher who I had for a very very short time and he actually gave he was mr.
Johnson and he was this big bloke of a beard and he was lovely and he gave me attention and he actually sat down I sat on his lap and he showed me how to I didn't sit on his knee no I didn't he actually gave me attention and he's all right well if you do if you think of it this way and he explained I think it was fractions or something and he was explaining it to me and for some reason his kindness seemed to stimulate my brain to become interested in what he was saying
if that makes any sense it's almost like he he was able to communicate with me so that my brain opened up to be receptive to the new learnings so I really liked him unfortunately he left he got ill and he left so I didn't have him for long new teachers came in like just not pretend teachers what they called you know to come in as a replacement temporary temps or whatever and no one in the class gave them a chance and sometimes they'd leave crying I mean it was weird it was like really it was
the whole class went to pot because it was weird very strange actually and I don't know if it was that year I think it was the first year that I got taken out of the class and put into the remedial class and that's you know I was for part of my day I'd be in a remedial class every day for part of it and then I'd be just in the other classes the rest of the time and I didn't do anything I just sat there didn't do anything just waited just looked at the clock waited
for the time to go and I over the years the teachers just got used to it providing I wasn't being disruptive they just leave me alone and the only problem teacher I had was a maths teacher and it was the last two years of high school and me and her didn't get on and she's this is horrible to me but then I was horrible to her and she gave up I won I won in the end and she just left me alone so I just don't I go into a magazine much read a magazine I
wouldn't do any work because I didn't know what was going on I didn't know what she was talking about and I I used to be a bit disruptive I guess but and it was the lowest class it was a lowest maths class because at this point instead of being in the special group we had our own maths class so it was like the dunce's maths class and it was very disruptive and there's only a couple of people that wanted to learn I wasn't one of them so yeah it was it was strange really all those
years I mean five years of high school and I learned practically nothing I must have learned something I mean I'm sure some of it went in some of the the knowledge or whatever the people the teachers were talking about I just wasn't interested the things that I was interested in was you know when I was very young I was interested in UFOs you know when I was 11 I was interested in werewolves and vampires and you know that kind of stuff the supernatural witches and I got interested in witchcraft then I got interested in martial
arts I was interested in bodybuilding I was interested in boxing and those are the things that I was interested in as subjects you know things and I loved reading I loved reading comedy books I loved reading just just loved reading you know I could pretty much read anything it used to take me a while to so if I went to the library it take me a while to find a book I wanted to read but once I did I'd take it home and I'd devour it mmm yum yum yum yum so and sometimes you know
not just sometimes quite often I'd read a book and I wouldn't understand a lot of what I was reading because it was too technically advanced for me you know I didn't know is almost I was reading I needed to read the previous information of first if you know before so I'd read an advanced book about for example reading something really advanced on neuroscience instead of maybe reading a more basic book for the layperson about the brain and how they come to figure out some of this stuff you know sort of more easing into it rather
than actually that's really not good I that's not not a good example maybe or maybe like with hypnosis I read introduction books on hypnosis when I first got into it I didn't go straight into clinical hypnosis or the Oxford handbook of hypnosis that's just looking off my shelf you know like really quite heavy reading you know I put I picked a couple of easy to read books and then moved on from there I didn't always do that when I was younger I used to sometimes read stuff on black holes and wormholes and things to do
with astronomy and I didn't necessarily know what I was reading didn't understand it all but it didn't stop me and sometimes I read books I didn't necessarily understand what was going on but I thought well sometimes books will explain it as you go along they don't you know especially with things like mystery novels and stuff like that so not everything is kind of explained by numbers like one two three four you know sometimes go to four first okay what's going on here and then they give you one later on that made sense to me when
I said that so yeah dum-dum that's gonna be the title of this podcast am I a dum-dum maybe I don't know the thing is even Einstein said why keep in your why keep stuff in your brain that you can search for you know if you've got access to something information you don't need to store it in your brain don't need to store it in your memory and you know as far as I'm aware some people actually put some value on what Einstein had to say so maybe I'll take that as a as a reason not
to remember anything although I do have quite a good memory at times I'll give you an example of how my memory works one of the things is if you say to me that you went to town and you missed the bus coming back okay you missed the bus coming back and by missing the bus it meant you didn't get here in time to watch the boxing so you missed the boxing the main fight because you missed the bus now you know and there might be a big fight might be you know a world title fight
or something so you didn't get here in time to watch it with me if in 10 years time we talk about that night and you said yeah I missed the train instantly I will remember what you originally said to me now I wouldn't have thought about that for 10 years I wouldn't have even given it a second thought because it's so unimportant and you know you didn't get here to watch the fight watched it on my own doesn't matter don't care gone but in 10 years or even 15 20 years time you say oh yeah
I remember that I remember I got a taxi back when I when originally told me that you walked back or you waited for the next bus that was a lot later you know so if you contradict yourself instantly my brain kicks in remember exactly what you said 10 15 20 years ago and it's been like that for a long time I don't know why because it's stuff that's not even important but when someone lies or let's say contradicts themselves because maybe in their memory they've got a different memory of it now I don't remember the
situation I just remember what I've been told about the situation I remember if someone says yeah I was wearing a red t-shirt and then they say yeah I was wearing a yellow t-shirt well you said you were in a red t-shirt because suddenly it comes back to me yeah I remember what you said originally I used to notice that with the when I was counseling I'd have notes about the therapy sessions very vague notes it wouldn't be detailed because I knew that other people might be reading them not not lots of other people but but
my supervisor you know so I kept them vague but vague enough for me to kind of remember so very basic notes of the therapy session wouldn't write down everything that was said or anything like that and sometimes when I'd have maybe 16 clients a week I wouldn't remember everyone and I wouldn't like there be oh this person's coming in today so I'm seeing five people today I might remember a couple of them but I might not remember all of them and even when they sit down I might remember them by face I might okay I
remember this person so I won't remember what they've spoken about before within sometimes a minute of them talking suddenly I have access to everything that we talked about all previous route all previous sessions it's strange it's just I don't know why my my brain works like that I don't know why anyway I'm gonna go I've been yapping on for about nothing for ages so thank you for listening even though I don't know really really said anything today not really so take care of yourselves remember to be kind to yourself and be gentle as well you
deserve to be happy lots of love bye
