Hello, hi, welcome to Jason Newland. That's it, that's a bit better, that's a bit better. I'm just trying to do the mic of the camera so it's not showing the, that's, that's better I think, just about.
Ah, yeah, hello, welcome to jasonnewland.com. My name's Jason Newland, this is Let Me Bore You To Sleep. I'm videoing the podcast being recorded. So, hello everybody, hi, so yes, another one of those live broadcasted videos, podcast audios thing.
So, only listen when you can safely close your eyes, or only watch when you can safely close your eyes, which sounds weird because, you know, you can't watch with your eyes closed, can you? You know what I mean? Ah, so I'm going to relax in the evening. I went out today, I've tried, I've tried to move the microphones a little bit, a little bit further away from my face. Like last time I did a video, the microphone, two of them were, it looks like I was, just looked like it was a little bit intrusive, slightly intrusive, but this seems a bit better.
Hopefully, I mean, I could do that. Hello, it's very, very close. Hopefully, it's not too far away, but it's not right in my face.
Should still pick up my voice, and this should, it should pick my voice up. That's it. Hello, the two people that are watching on the, a flashbook.
But hello, how are you? Are you well? Oh, good. Oh, my stomach's gurgling. I think what it needs is some breakfast cereal.
Oh, the two people are left now. Okay, didn't want you anyway. Go away, leave, get out.
Leave, be gone with you. I didn't ask you to join me. I didn't invite you, didn't invite you.
Why are you even here to start with? Go away. No. Sorry, I was just being silly.
I'm going to go to the fridge in the kitchen to get myself a drink. So, there's going to be some dead air, where should I do that? Which admittedly, I can edit in the recording of the podcast. But the actual live stream, stream is going to be aware that I'm not here.
But I won't be long. I literally, we're talking probably 10 seconds. But I'm not going to race.
I've got no one to race against. You know, I'm not going to rush. That's better.
If anyone is watching on fastbook, can you let me know if the sound is okay? Is the sound okay? Because I'm a little bit worried that I might be so up when I when I have the word S. It seems to last longer with this microphone. That microphone is just S. But here is S. So, hello, Gemma. Gemma Gemma Gemma says the sound is perfect.
Do you think it's better than it was before? Before not like five seconds ago, but on previous streams, do sound do it sound alright? I've got this new, new setup. New setup. Rachel says it's bloody terrible.
Okay. Right. Could you like to expand upon that? Rachel? No, nothing.
Okay, that's it. I'm off then. All my luck, everything to these people, everything, and they give me nothing back.
Hello, sorry about that. And just just went to get a drink. It's very bloody terrible lol.
So sorry, I don't do sarcasm or humor. So I don't with the written word, I find it difficult to know what people mean. But seriously, is it? Is it okay? I'm guessing Rachel you're joking, but is it? Do I need to have the microphone? Yeah.
Does it really need to be that close to my face? Or is it all right there? So it's not that I want people to see my face and who the hell wants to see my face, but I'm just saying, it's, it's okay. Not what I'm looking for either. You're just an annoying, you're annoying me now go away.
Come back when you want to worship me. I'm looking for some, it's okay. I could mean anything.
It's rubbish. It's crap. It's okay.
If I baked you a cake, and you said it's okay, I would be devastated. So there, and I was going to bake you a cake as well. Not sure.
So not so sure. Not so sure now. I live, I've watched some of my older videos, the live streams, and the sound is way better now than it used to be way better.
Like huge. It's amazing and wonderful. What more do you want? Not to be a knob, maybe.
I'm just asking if it sounds better. That's all. Not, not looking for anything abnormal.
Just, you know, trying to see if what it sounds better for. I was, I'm asking people that, you know, so I can offer a better service. That's all.
It's, if you got an attitude, walk on by, come back when you're in a better mood. That's why podcasts are better. I ain't got to deal with the public.
Ain't got to deal with the public. But doing a, doing a Facebook live is an opportunity to get a bit of, you know, a little bit of feedback. Because I've invested money and time into the equipment that I'm using for the live broadcasts.
Gemma, you're killing me. Thank you. Rachel knows I love her.
By the way, Gemma, check out Rachel's YouTube channel. She's got, Rachel post a link on here if you want. It's, she looks after hedgehogs hedgehogs.
And here's a funny thing, right? Rachel actually asked me for advice on videos. Yeah. She's been doing videos for probably as long as I have.
She's got videos on her channel over seven years old. And she's been doing her videos are way better, more complicated than anything that I've ever done. She's got setups, cameras, filming the hedgehogs at night.
I can't even get decent light during the day. I can't, my film, look at my old videos. They look like they were made by like a three year old.
Honestly. I mean, this has taken me 16 years to realize which way to point the camera. Honestly, I've got, I had the first three years, you just had a wall and me talking the wrong way around.
Funny, that was funny. It was a joke. Had problems with my back, the middle of my back.
I couldn't figure out what it was. I thought I just didn't configure. I was a little bit worried to be fair.
So I got my lower back problem. I'm at peace with that. I was at peace.
I was at peace with my lower back, you know, because it's an ongoing issue. Middle of my back. Not not greatly.
A little bit concerned. Anyway, what I've done, I've got this chair, and I'm sitting in it. And there's this divider, like a backrest thing that can be moved up and down the chair.
I had at the bottom and my back was curved. So now I have it in the middle, which means my back stays straight when I'm sitting in it has no option. Because if it doesn't go straight, I feel it, you know, so I'm kind of, I think it seems to sort it out.
Rachel's posted the link anyone wants to see it. For the No problem, Rachel is a good YouTube channel. And I tell you what those hedgehogs.
If you ever see a hedgehog, this is for anyone on the podcast as well. Check out Rachel's YouTube channel. And it's my cat crackers.
Is that right Rachel? My cat crackers. C R A C K E R S. Now I don't normally recommend YouTube channels. And just yeah, I've got no reason not to but just it's okay, it keeps cutting out apparently the the broadcast.
But anyway, check it out. It's called my cat crackers. And you could just put that into YouTube.
And Rachel's got this setup over a garden and all kinds of stuff with these hedgehogs. And the channel is my cat crackers. Yeah.
And the it's amazing, honestly, because hedgehogs if you see them, I don't feel anyone's seen hedgehogs. Generally, if you see them in a park, or in a street, or in your bath, whatever, they just curl up, they do nothing. They just they act like they're dead.
They just act as if they're not there. But when you're not around when there's no one around, they get up to all kinds of stuff. They're cheeky little monkeys.
They really are cheeky little monkeys, hedgehogs. And they move quickly as well. But Andre used to love hedgehogs.
He used to try to actually he actually got not attacked, but he was a hedgehog went for him. Which is weird because normally like, you know, don't move. But we were walking through the park at night.
And suddenly this head this thing came running towards Andre. And he just had his back to it. And he was probably sniffing every single blade of grass they'd like to.
He was completely oblivious to anything. And this hedgehog this I thought it was a dog. It was a hedgehog running towards him.
So I just I mean, you're not fast enough to to outrun you. But they're considering hedgehogs are supposed to be slow. They ain't slow.
Tortoises aren't particularly slow either, to be fair. Tortoises are way quicker than they get credit for. But it's a good channel.
I reckon if Rachel, if you continue to post videos of the hedgehogs, and if you do more videos, like more and more and more regularly, and build up your setup as well, maybe have more things. I wouldn't in the least be surprised if you end up being a big YouTube channel. I mean, not kidding, because it's, I've not seen anything like it.
It's unique. It's a unique YouTube channel. And the, this, you know, you put so much work into the into it, the videos edited really well.
You know, I'll crap at editing the videos. I've part of the reason why I do live because I haven't got to edit it. Just do a live stream, post it onto Facebook, download it from Facebook, post it onto YouTube.
No intro, no music, no nothing. Just me. And I'm more into the podcast, you know, it's more my thing.
But at the same time, it's nice to sort of say hello to people, or you know, people that that watch regularly, like Rachel, my bestie. You're very kind, I am very kind. Now, you be kind from now on.
Also, I'm not, it sounds like I'm like really bigging up Rachel. I'm not. I'm just being honest.
She's actually got a good voice for the back, the, the narrate, the narrative, the narrator. Is that right? The narrator, the back talking behind the camera, talking narrator, yeah, narrator talking whilst the stuff's going on the camera, and describing what's going on. She's got a good voice for it as well.
So hey, I think honestly, I've got a very unsuccessful YouTube channel. My I know my my YouTube channel is going nowhere at the moment. It's you know, but I can see more potential in your YouTube channel Rachel than mine.
Because you're doing something that's so it's just, it's better, better than mine. That was insincere. I actually personally think mine's brilliant.
No, it's not. It's got some, it's got all my podcasts on. So from that perspective, it's not a bad pod, not a bad YouTube channel.
But as far as videos go, there's not much on there. And I do think I missed an opportunity really, because I could have devoted the last five and a half years to making videos of Andre and putting that onto the YouTube channel. But I didn't, I made some videos, I've got loads of videos of him, but didn't sort of go down that road.
I was going to I actually started a YouTube channel, just for Andre. It's called Andre the Ferret. Don't know what happened to that must have deleted it or just got lost somewhere.
I might just it might be in the storage cupboard somewhere. La la la la la. Nadia.
Nadia says hello. Hi, Nadia or Nadia. Nadia Nadia.
I'm guessing Nadia but I don't know. I got guess if I pronounce your name wrong. I don't care.
It's very important to know that. Because you know, I'm not purposely Nate. I'm not doing it on purpose.
It's hard to because so many names that you can pronounce differently. And I mean, my name is quite, it's only really one way to pronounce it. Unless you have a you you say in a different act.
If you do it in a strong accent, then it can sound different. I had a friend that I worked with years ago used to call me Jason. Jason.
And I used to call him no bed, no bed, like a new land. Look, the only way the only reason I pronounce my name the way I do is because when I very first started doing YouTube, and doing the internet, you know, back in 2006. So not YouTube, but Myspace and stuff like that.
I wanted people to be able to Google me and know how to pronounce my name, know how to spell it. New land. But it turns out that everyone I get corrected.
It's Newland. Ash. Ash says hi, Ash.
Jay can be soft. Jason, like Jesus. Well, Jesus isn't soft.
And Jay isn't soft in Jesus. How about it be Jesus. Jason.
Jesus. Is it? Can you? Can you? Oh, you know, you might be right. I mean, I don't know.
Jason. I tell you what annoys me, Ash. It's what I know.
And I shouldn't really get annoyed about stuff like this. Jay pointing my finger. Jay is short for Jason.
People call it Jay. Or Jase. There's pretty much it.
Jase is usually from. Yeah, Ash. Jesus.
I don't I don't do. I kind of don't really go along with that. And it is a thing.
But you don't call you don't call someone Jesus. I'm not really you know, I was born a Catholic, brought up a Catholic, lived with Catholic nuns. I mean, proper Catholicism.
I had a church in my garden. And then I kind of I embraced Christianity as a teenager because of Jesus. It was it was all about Jesus for me.
It was like, wow. Because with with Catholicism, it's not about Jesus. It's about the Old Testament, really.
It's about that stuff. And then I moved into Buddhism as a late teenager and throughout my adult life. But for me, that might be calling someone Buddha, you know, or I don't know, just doesn't doesn't seem right to call someone Jesus just.
And I would never. I don't know. Just I don't feel I find it very strange.
I find it strange. But who am I? What's it got to do with me, really? I think it's a popular name in Spanish. Catholicism in South America, like Mohammed in the Middle East.
That's another thing I don't understand. Right? Can't draw a picture of Mohammed, but you can call everyone you want Mohammed. Call all your kids Mohammed.
Everyone can be called him. But you can't draw a picture. I personally would find it disrespectful to call someone such a high person, you know, like Jesus or in any religion, whoever is the top, the king of the religion.
It just seems I don't know, I just don't I can't I don't really understand it. And it's got nothing to do with me, really, to be fair, but I don't understand it. And I know I used to work in a call center.
And people from the Middle East would call up any amount of Mohammed's Mohammed, Mohammed, Mohammed, Mohammed, all these different names. Sometimes there will actually be Mohammed, Mohammed, Mohammed, that was like I had one person, all three names, which is one. What's that? So yeah, I just talked to Ash about religious names.
I just Yeah. You wouldn't call a Christian would not call their child Jesus. Not in.
Well, clearly I do. Whoops, just banging the microphone there. But in this country in England, I've never ever met a Jesus doesn't mean they don't exist doesn't mean that hasn't happened.
But that would be in a way as controversial. As I imagine calling your child Hitler, if you're in Germany, or any country to be fair, you wouldn't do it, you won't call your child Hitler. In fact, in this country, I think it's illegal to do so.
There's some people called the name, their child, Adolf Hitler, and then it's like it was his middle name. And then whatever their surname was. And the parents got arrested for racial, whatever.
There's a news is a couple of years ago, maybe last year. So I'm not comparing Hitler with Jesus. If you're an idiot, thinking that obviously, what's I'm not talking to you, I'm just saying to anyone listening, obviously, I'm not.
Yeah, I guess it's just a cultural thing. It's a cultural thing. To me, that would be insulting.
For me. That just seems like if I wanted to annoy if I was going out to annoy people, to really annoy people, I will call my child Jesus. You know, if I had a kid, because I know that that would upset a lot of people.
Because there's only one Jesus, that's the point. There's only one Jesus. Now, I'm not even really a Christian anymore.
But still, it's hard to really argue that as far as one of the most amazing, whether he lived, whether he existed or not, you couldn't make up like a better kind of man. And same as with the Buddha. And perhaps the same with Muhammad as well.
I don't know much about that faith. So and other john the baptist, maybe another historical figures, the Jewish faith and the Sikh faith and the moonies. You know, everyone's there's some amazing people out there, I guess.
And there's only one. But maybe that's what it is. Maybe in a different face.
If you call your child that name, it means that you're you're I don't know expecting to be like that person. I don't know. I don't I don't know.
It's a little bit beyond me. I don't really actually look into it really. That's why I don't try not to have big opinions about stuff because I don't know if I don't have enough information to be that bothered.
I guess most of our popular names from the Bible, the discipline of disciple names, Daniel, Jacob. Yeah, the thing is, that weren't their names, was it? I don't know what Jesus said going on in me, but he just he liked renaming people. Your name is your name is Horace, I will call you Luke.
Like, no, my name is Horace. But if you go back to some other religions, when you get ordained, you get your name changed. So in a sense, he was because he he did.
What is it when you stick your head under the water? Not recycle, recycle, recycle the disciple christened. But it's not called christening, is it baptized? So in Buddhism, when you get would be kind of the current baptism, which would be ordination, you get given a different name. The same may be the same I think happens with Catholic.
Well, basically, what is it? What they're not, not the nuns, the not the priests, the ones that are robes them law. I think they get their names change as well. Maybe Jesus name was originally Brian.
Oh, maybe it's possible. I mean, just, it's weird. I mean, to me, in a way, it's either been kind of sacrosanct or ever to call someone G. So I've talked about this before, calling someone Elvis.
Now I know Elvis Costello exists. I don't don't doubt it's not got no issue with him existing. And all of his army is here to stay all of his army.
We never give anyone else. Brilliant, brilliant song all of his army. So Elvis Costello.
Any other offices you've heard of is Elvira, but it's near kind of Elvis. I don't know. I mean, I think about this stuff.
And then I'll be honest, I realized I don't care. I don't care if everybody in the world has got the same name. I kind of don't care.
I'll talk about it. And I'll make fun of it. And I'll question it.
And I'll like, well, I don't understand why. But then I realize it's got nothing to do with me. Everyone can call themselves Zachary.
I like the name Zachary. Zach. From the gremlins.
Pope's changed in that. Yeah, Pope's changed their names. Yeah.
So it seems to be quite a religiousy thing to do. Some religions have changed their names. In Buddhism, the Buddhism, I'm involved in a Western Buddhist group have been since 2002, November, although I'm not very much involved at the moment.
But when they get ordained, they get their names changed. So I had a friend called Nick. And his name was changed to Buddha Seer.
When he got ordained. Another friend called. It's weird.
It's been so long since I've known their real names. His name. Okay, what was his name? His name? Wow, I forget.
Anyway, his name that other person's name was Sangha Nista. And another person's name was Dharma Shalin. There's one person whose name was Sarah.
Well, her, her name, her initials was SJ. And then she got ordained. Her initials was still SJ.
It was Sujani. So still SJ and her initial name was SJ. That's one of the most boring thing you'll ever hear.
But I found it interesting. Muhammad Ali was classist clay. Yeah.
Clay was his ancestor's slave on his last name, I think. Yeah. The thing is, what I find interesting is part of the reason we Buddhists anyway, is to give up your name is to give up that attachment that clinging to that thing that you know, you cling and hold of that name.
But when people get ordained, they've worked so hard and devoted so much of their time to get to the point of being ordained. I bet you that name means more to them than the original amendment. Which means that they're attached in it.
See? Prince became a symbol. Yeah, that was silly, wasn't it? But that was part, wasn't that because he felt he was a slave, because his record company, or did he actually call it he did write slave on his foyer, didn't he at one point, his record company wouldn't let him release his albums. But Prince he would reduce, he'd produce an album a month with like 100 songs on each album.
He was so prolific. And his record company didn't want to do that. They wanted to sell records, records.
He wanted to like getting the title Sir. Yeah, if you get if you get imagine if you get a thing from the from the Queen, what what do they call it a knighthood. But you know what? A lot of people get knighthoods because of their charity work.
I know some get it just because they're friends with the government figures and they donate money and stuff like that. And of course, that's always going to happen. And but there's a lot of people out there that get get it because they're just normal people that get they get knighted because of what they've done.
What's this say says people when they get the title Sir kind of define themselves with that new moniker or title. Some do some who was who didn't like it. There was a really famous person that didn't like being called Sir.
I think Richard Branson quite likes it. I think he's a Sir Richard Branson, isn't he? Sir Elton John. I imagine he likes it.
I don't know. There's someone that doesn't didn't really he took it because it's people have turned it down. Yeah, people turn it down.
Someone, someone when he gets interviews on TV and they say, Oh, Sir, blah, blah, blah. And then he always says, No, forget this, Sir. Just a human being like you.
And here we are just normal, you know, so he doesn't really play up on it. But I reckon stuff that means more to older people. Like collecting gold coins and saying the word superb as many times as possible.
I think some people just I think it's something you kind of grow into. When I was a kid, my when I was younger, my attitude, Hi, Michelle, my attitude was, if they try to give me a try to knight me, I tell them where to stick it. And I just said it to my dad and he used to get annoyed.
But why would anyone like me? I've done nothing to be knighted for. So that's funny. Bowie was awarded CB.
I can't read everything that there's no point posting a big long thing. I'm looking at a tiny little phone. I can't see it.
Honestly, I can only see it like short sentences. Sorry. Although on Google, anyone watching on a laptop or something could see it.
So yeah, I don't understand. There's so much. I quite like not understanding because it makes it more interesting sometimes.
Like why a religion has such because when you don't understand, it's funnier. Oh, David Barry, turn it down. Yeah, when you don't understand something, sometimes it's funnier.
But I know it can come across as ignorant. And sometimes you come across as offensive, but everyone gets offended these days. So it's not worth worrying about.
I know. When I talk about stuff like that, I'm not out to offend anyone. I'm generally I could not care about anything like that about people's religions.
And this is uninteresting to me. This way, it's interesting, but it's their business, nothing to do with me. You know, so I don't, I'm not really out to cause offence or anything like that.
It's not my job. I leave that to the politicians, leave that to our Prime Minister, let him let him offend everyone. But at the same time, I don't respect it.
So that's a good thing. And blissful ignorance. Well, I do know a bit about religion, actually, but I studied it when I was at school as a subject, I actually chose it as a subject.
And I have kind of studied it, but I don't know that much about some of them. You know, I studied, I'm reading all about Sikhism. And what's the other ones? Sikhs, some Muslims get the biggest spotlight on them.
In the whole world, that's the religion that gets the biggest spotlight. Because it's such a huge religion. And because of just all the different aspects to it.
But Sikhism, hardly ever mentioned. You know, hardly ever hear anything about Sikhs in the press, in the news. It's not mentioned.
I mean, why people's religion is mentioned anyway, unless what they've done is directly connected to their religion. There should be no reason to even mention someone's religion. But what would be the point? It's a personal thing for them.
But I know people that are just very anti certain religions, thinking that they want to take over the country and have their own laws and we're supposed to do all that stuff. And I'll be honest every person I ever met, every Muslim I've ever met has been nice. They've been cool.
Generally haven't had an issue. It's a very respectful religion, teaches respect. And especially I think people in the Western world, when they learn it, if they learn it as an adult, if they're not born into it, it's a lot of respect there.
I'm not an expert, but it's very different from what people think. It's very different from what the general public think. But at the same time, it's not really my kind of thing.
Because I understand aspects of it, but it's very, very, the rules are so many rules. I mean, I don't need these things that are mapped out how to do it, which I've been doing all my life without reading a book on how to do it. And I don't need that.
It's just not really for me, you know. But then Buddhism, blimey. There's more scriptures in Buddhism than there is in any of the other religions, I think.
It's huge, huge amount of stuff written. There's a lot of stuff written about Christianity and other religions. But with Buddhism, it's not just the books written about them, it's the actual, the scriptures themselves.
So many, there's so much. Honestly, you couldn't read it in your lifetime, probably. So much.
But it's a lifestyle. And I think it's the same with, I think that's what struggles is a struggle with people, maybe in the Western world, because being a Sikh, being a Muslim, being a Buddhist, is your life. Everything else is secondary.
That's the foundation. Everything else is on top of that. But your life is, you're looking through your religious eyes, you're eating through your religious mouth, you're smelling through your religious nose, you're pooing, you know.
So it's kind of, I think with Christianity, you can do as much or as little as you want, which you can do with other religions. But some people going to church once a week, they think that they're a Christian, which they are, if that's what they think they are. Now, I'm not judging.
I'm just saying, does Buddhism crossover with other religions? It's been curious. Yeah. Buddhism came from Hinduism.
So Hinduism is, that's where basically the Buddha grew up a Hindu. So it's my understanding. And then he broke away from that.
And sort of he came to his own kind of understanding of what he thought life was. And every religion is the same. It's come from any beginner of a new religion, had a different religion to start with.
And when the Buddha, because people, some people think Buddhism, it's all a little bell, ding, ding, ding, ding, an incense. That's not Buddhism. And that's just what people have kind of added to it.
Bruce Lee. Yeah, Bruce Lee started his own version of Kung Fu, Jeet Kune Do. I did a bit of Jeet Kune Do years ago.
It's basically the idea is to do as minimal, minimal movements as possible, and to strike as, I don't know how to explain it really, but it's to make, to finish the job as quick as possible. No flashy movements, no high kicks. It's legs, groins, it's everything very quick.
And that's, and you hurt the person as well. Not just, so if someone goes to kick you, of course you can grab their leg. But when you block, you hurt them.
The idea is if someone goes to kick you and you block, you give them a dead leg. You, you, you don't just, oops, you don't just block, you block, you really smash their leg, or someone goes to punch you or whatever, and you block, you smash their arm, and you smash them in the shoulder and things like that. So it's a bit aggressive, isn't it? And that seems to be the Jeet Kune Do way, is you really hurt them.
Even in defense, you hurt them. So if someone goes to kick you and you smash their shin. Now, I will love the word smash today.
Smash their shin. They might not want to do it anymore. The one, the one inch punch, that was just for show.
Because you're never going to be one inches away from someone's face, in reality. If you're, no one's going to stand there and let you put your hand right next to their face. So just stand, stand a second there.
I'm going to do a punch in a minute. Right? Wait a minute. Just wait.
It's not, you know, so a one inch punch would never happen in a fight. Because you're never going to be one inches away from someone. And it was just, it was just for show.
It was for fun. And Bruce Lee was phenomenal at what he did. And I would, I think it would be brilliant to see him in today's world.
He'd struggle because of, what's weird? I know it's weird. You can't say, Bruce Lee would struggle in the octagon, in the MMA, you know, UFC, mixed martial arts fighters. But we've got mixed martial arts fighters in the MMA and UFC because of Bruce Lee.
So if Bruce Lee hadn't existed, we wouldn't have what we have now. We wouldn't have the films that we've had. We wouldn't have people, the amount of people that started martial arts because of watching Bruce Lee films.
And the question that was kept arising, like waggling my finger now, the question that kept arising for years and years and years was, how would Bruce Lee fare against, you used to ask stupid questions like, how would Bruce Lee fare against Muhammad Ali? Well, if they're wearing gloves, Muhammad Ali would knock Bruce Lee out. Never mind the fact that he was a heavyweight and Bruce Lee would have been a welterweight, you know, big difference in weight. Um, if it had been no gloves and just, or, you know, just like kicks allowed and everything else, then probably Bruce Lee, simply the fact that he would kick him in the legs and in, and all that stuff.
But as soon as Ali punched him, if he got a punch in, Bruce Lee would be unconscious on the floor because, and Ali was so fast and he was a heavyweight boxer. He, he, the best, you know, at the time. So, you know, it's one of those weird things, but then that kept coming up.
Who would win? Who'd win out of a samurai, out of a, you know, a ninja? Who'd win out of a judo man and a kickboxer? And all these scenarios kept coming up, like not everyone wanted to know, but no one knew the answer. No one knew the answer. And then MMA, Mixed Martial Arts, came along in, what, about 25 years ago? The 90s or something, maybe.
And how it started was, that's exactly what they were doing. They wanted to find out which style would be the best and could someone do Wing Chun, which is what Bruce Lee did before he started his own one. Could he hold his own with a boxer, a professional boxer? Now, the answer to that is, depends upon the person.
You know, I've seen, I've seen professional boxers go into the octagon against, you know, with Mixed Martial Arts and knock the opponent clean out. I've also seen the same kind of scenario and the other, the opponent was a judo person and the judo person choked him out. I even saw another version where it was a boxer against a judo man and the judo man punched the boxer and knocked him out, which is the opposite to what you'd expect to happen.
I can't read all the stuff that's been written, sorry. Yeah, you're talking about, yeah, there was, Ali did get in a ring with someone, and it was a kickboxer or something, and he kicked Ali's legs. They basically reenacted that in the Rocky film, didn't they? Where he kind of got injured by the Hulk Hogan.
Now, when the UFC or the MMA started, the first thing is there was very few rules. It's very different now to how it used to be. It used to be a bloodbath, and I think anything was allowed except eye gorging.
That was the only, honestly, it was like the only thing you weren't allowed to do or kick him in the nuts. That's the only thing, and it was horrible. I don't know if it got, it didn't get banned, but I think there might have been some laws came in or they got told by the TV producers that you have to, you've got to clean it up, man.
So that's what they did, and now it's a lot cleaner. It's still a bit bloody, but it's still you've got a lot more rules now, but you still do elbows. You can still kick him in the knees, kick him in the, you're not allowed to kick him in the knees, but you can kick him on above the knees.
You're not allowed to kick the actual knee socket, I don't think. Morning Molly. In the early days, sumo wrestlers went in there, and all these myths about the different martial artists and sumo wrestling is kind of a martial arts.
It's, I know they're not jumping around doing somersaults, obviously, but a sumo wrestler is probably the strong, one of the strongest men. I don't know if women do this sport, but you know, back in those days, it was men, and I don't know. Yeah, anyway, they might look like they're just big and fat, and they are big and fat.
I mean, you shouldn't use the word fat, you shouldn't fat shame, you shouldn't you shouldn't body shame a sumo wrestler. Well, google sumo wrestler, because you clearly don't know what they are. Click, click, google that, an image of a sumo wrestler, and come back to me, and tell me not to use the word fat.
Okay, thank you very much. Hi, Molly, good morning there. Hello.
And yeah, so the sumo wrestler, so strong, they can actually stand in front of a jeep, right, a jeep that's turned off. We could all stand in front of a jeep that's turned off. I mean, it's not that exciting, and you're not that great.
Oh, but turn the jeep on, they can stop the jeep from moving. Because they're so strong. I think it's because they're so heavy.
And you need some natural to support that way. Like a truck needs a huge engine, even if it's not performance. I only got the end of that sentence there.
Only short sentences, otherwise, I can't read them. Because I'm looking on the phone. And sorry, but I got the end of it.
And whatever, what came out of the experiment with the mixed martial arts, is, I think, six years in a row, Gracie, with his jujitsu won. He won the world title. They did like a like a tournament every year.
And he won it every year. The first six years. And that's when people that were doing kickboxing, doing karate, taekwondo, you name it, all the different kinds of martial arts, they realized that they'd be fine until they got in the ring with someone to do jujitsu.
Because as soon as they're taken to the floor, they don't know what to do. So the Ash says the title fights are way too short nowadays, how to make it longer. What do you mean title fights are way too short? Are you talking about boxing or MMA or UFC? It's five, five rounds in it of go to Vegas, just watch a fight for maybe two minutes.
You talk about normal boxing was 12 rounds. And it's 12 rounds, three minute rounds. With the women, they're two minute rounds.
But it's used to be 15 rounds in boxing. But yeah, you don't get a world title fight for less than 12 rounds. There are quite a few fights now, MMA, often cut short.
Yeah, obviously. It's I don't mind that because I'd rather see a knockout than two sweaty men cuddling each other on the floor for 20 minutes. That bores me.
That bores me. I bore everyone else that bores me. Seeing two sweaty men rubbing their faces over each other's armpits.
Boring. They should be disqualified. I'm sure Yeah, I think I want to start my own fighting thing.
What it will be. It'll be like boxing. And if it's just boxing, there'll be nothing else to just boxing, but one round.
That's it. Just one round. And no clinching.
No hugging, no dancing with each other. This ain't a date. Anytime they get close to start hugging, you get pulled apart.
If they keep doing it, they'll get disqualified. So if they hug each other more than five times, if they work out some kind of disqualification. Football is boring.
90 minutes. Yeah, but unfortunately, I'm not really big into football. But if you're not into it either, we are in the minority for that.
The majority of people do love football. So the way it is, Michelle, if it was an hour long, they'd call it dancing. Exactly.
It is dancing. The UFC, or even boxing sometimes, I've seen world title fights, where they seem to be scared to get punched. Now, I understand how an average person doesn't want to get punched.
Why would you? But if you're a boxer, and you're, you're fighting in a world title, you got if you got surely you got confidence in your own ability. If you don't, why the hell are you in the ring? And I've seen fights actually disqualified. I've seen fighters disqualified because they refuse to get involved.
Like they were just backing off the whole time. Ridiculous. I watched the UFC fight the other day, and all they did was cuddle.
And I just I ban them. That's why Tyson was so memorable. He got bored and bitter guy.
Yeah, that's not why he did it. He didn't bite the guy because he got bored. If you know what happened.
The reason Tyson bit Holyfield is because Holyfield did to Tyson what he did to all his opponents, and what he was famous for. And that's not winning title fights and being brilliant, because he was brilliant as well. He headbutted.
And he had by the wrong person. And because the referee was clearly in favor of Holyfield, like most referees would be because Holyfield was the golden boy. Holyfield was like, you know, he was hugely respected by everyone in boxing.
Apart from those that he fought, because he kept headbutting them. That's what he did headbutted. And his head was solid.
He was, you know, he was anyway, that's what he did. He headbutted people, and he got away with it. I don't think he ever got caught, never got told off.
Never lost a point once. Now Tyson told the referee, he keeps headbutting. Referee did nothing.
I think, I imagine Tyson warned Holyfield, when they were up close, don't do that again. And I'm gonna hurt you. Did it again, so he bit his ear off.
Fair enough. Seems like a good, a good trade. Because if you got a head as strong and as tough as Holyfield, smashing you in the face.
Well, how can you, you know, Holyfield was a much more advanced fighter than Tyson. Holyfield was a boxer, way better than Tyson ever could be. And I would say, if they fought, not now, obviously, Holyfield's not, he's an old man now, but in his prime, Tyson, Tyson had a knockout, he had a punches chance, that's all he had.
Now, he had much more than that in, normally, because he did have ability, obviously, he's got a great boxer and everything. And, but with Holyfield, Holyfield was way, way more advanced with his boxing ability, which is why he won the heavyweight title four times. No one else in history has done that.
So yeah, I know me boxing, I know me boxing. But I think with Tyson, Mike Tyson, he, he got knocked out in the first round between the two of them. This was the second fight, and in the first fight between, this is the second fight.
And I reckon, he knew he wasn't going to be able to win. Because he was feeling the punches from Holyfield, his punches weren't affecting Holyfield. And then the headbutts, that was it.
I mean, that was probably the most controversial fight in my lifetime. I don't think there's been There was a fight recently, a couple of years back, where, and it was against David Price, the heavyweight, and his name's Kash Ali, or Kash Ali, I don't know. And this Kash Ali, Ali bit David Price about four times on his body.
He bit him there, he bit him on his stomach, he bit him on his back. I mean, you could see him do it, and why the referee warned him. Now if you bite someone in boxing, you don't get warned, you don't get a point taken, you get disqualified.
If you can see a massive chunk, like a big bite mark in a person's chest, I'm banging a microphone all over the place here. That's why I hate these microphones. I like to be able to move my hands when I'm doing a video.
And, wait a minute, that's better. That way I can move my hands around. So, if you, I have to edit this and upload it to the podcast.
Anyway, what was I talking about? I don't know. You can hear the mic just above, out of... You can have the mic just above, out of frame, pointing down. Well, I can't, because it won't fit.
It's now pointing down. oh you mean like that yeah it's better I'm Michelle says glad I caught you live I'm usually asleep Michelle this is better this is quite good this is less intrusive isn't it this microphone here and I'm gonna go in a minute though Michelle but yeah I'm glad it's 930 a. m.
well that is a weird a bit of a strange time to be listening although to be fair this has been an exciting recording isn't it all this talk about boxing and yeah actually it's just a little higher but really is it not high enough right is that better yes that's good is that is that a good good place anyway before I go my boxing what I would do is this one round no hugging no no clinches at all one round either they quit or they get knocked out it can be stopped only by four people
the fighter could quit of course the referee can stop it or three people or the corner can stop it that's it the only three people who could stop it the referee the boxer themself of course and their corner plug my video don't plug my videos ash no one wants to watch my videos and they're awful I this would be funny much if I did a video like this all the time I might do that you know I might make a video like this with the microphone right in front of me face and just be oblivious
