#724 Let me bore you to sleep - WAS WAS WHEN THAT HAPPENED - Jason Newland (10th September 2021)

I'm really pleased with that. I'm very pleased with that introduction. Hey, how you doing? Are you alright? So hey, this is Friday the 10th of September 2021.

Hope you're well, hope you're doing alright. Just to let you know, I'm now currently recording three different podcast episodes a day at the moment. I'm doing a deep sleep whisper hypnosis recording.

I'm doing the daily relax and sleep hypnosis daily. And also of course the let me bore you to sleep podcast as well. So you know, just trying to stick to this routine although I'm a little bit late doing this one.

Because I had a phone call, you know, he's talking about Grange Hill and stuff from the past. And I was telling my friend and he's going to ask his dad. But the reason I was called Jason is because in the 60s there was a television show called Jason King.

And he was like a private detective. And he had basically he had this. Okay, my dad had the same moustache.

So he had the same moustache as my dad. But my dad had the same moustache as him. Which is basically all the way from the chin all the way up and then all the way back down.

I don't know what they call that kind of moustache. But I think the chin is empty. And no beard.

So weird. I don't know what the kind of moustache is called. I don't kind of care either.

But anyway, he used to be called Jason by his friends as a nickname. And hence I was called Jason. Don't know if it's true.

The character is real. He apparently this bloke. The character he played was in a TV show.

And he was a popular character. So he got his own television show as well. This is in the 60s.

In the, I don't know, late 60s maybe. Not sure. So there you go.

Other than that, I think that's about all the information I've got. Oops, so I just went onto Facebook by accident. Well, not by accident, I purposely did it.

But I didn't realise the volume was up. By the way, if you haven't checked out, check out Ally Sherlock. She's a really great singer.

Very, very talented singer. Here's annoying me a little bit. I signed up for this thing called Headliner.

$25 a month. Okay, yep. And what it does, it basically makes a thing called an audiogram video thing.

Which converts a podcast into like an audio. And you can do like a snippet which you can then post onto Instagram and other platforms. Which is a way for me to promote my podcast on Instagram.

Because I think it's kind of a bit of a missed opportunity for me at the moment. I've got people following me on there. Not many, but people do still seem to, I still get additional followers even though I'm not posting anything on there.

And I never really have, hardly. So it seems like a bit of a missed opportunity. But I can't get the blimmin' thing to work.

I made this video, 405 Deep Sleep Whisper Hypnosis Soft and Slow Movements. And it said it's ready, go to the video. So all that stuff.

And it's just like a 29 second snippet of the audio recording. And then I'll put a link to the actual podcast episode. But it won't post.

And I don't know why. I don't know why. So, you know, I just paid for that on a credit card.

Thinking, because it's something I was wanting to do this month. So I've just got to figure another way around it. Maybe go on YouTube and figure out what I'm doing wrong, if I'm doing something wrong.

I mean, if it works for everyone else, it should work for me. I don't think Instagram has some kind of vendetta against me. I hope not.

So yeah, that's another thing I'm going to try and do. Still transcribing my audio recordings. So I'm in the process of transcribing more of the Deep Sleep Whisper Hypnosis podcast episodes.

That's a weird noise. I think these weird noises sometimes are. Strange.

Old age is really unusual. 60, so I'm up to number 60. I've transcribed 60 of the episodes so far.

And so that's OK. It's a very, it just takes time. I mean, the actual transcription itself is.

Well, I don't do it. It's done by the AI on the website. So I just press browse and click on the audio recording and it does the rest.

And it sometimes takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete. If it's a short recording, sometimes a little bit longer. So it's fairly easy.

My work is afterwards when I sort of start copying and putting it into the podcast episodes and then onto the website and then ultimately into the. Onto YouTube as well. And when I've caught up.

I'm going to start to edit them, edit the. The. Transcripts was a bit of a gap there, wasn't it? How many people are sitting there thinking you stop talking? What's going on? Where's he gone? No, I'm still here.

I'm still very, very, very much still here. I got a pizza today. Right.

Not delivered. I went to our. Yeah, Audi.

My friend's dad gave me a lift. Well, him as well. But we went to Audi.

And into Iceland. So they were going, I thought, I'll come along for the ride. And then I thought.

Yeah, I might as well get a few little bits because I need to, you know, run a little bit short. And I've got this pizza. It's cheap.

It's only about like £2.60 or something. Quite big. Pizza.

But it was all cheese with a cheese filling in the crust as well. Too cheesy. Too much cheese.

There's a limit to how much cheese should be on a pizza. And. I mean, it's almost.

It's flat. It's almost like a naan bread, which I love naan bread, actually. You know, I'm not.

I'm not having a go at naan bread. Don't write in and say, leave naan bread alone. I love naan bread.

I'm not. I'm not having a go at naan bread. I'm a big fan of naan bread.

There's a lot of scratching at one of the walls. Can't quite figure out where it's coming from. Hmm.

It's either a mouse or a bird. Or the ghost of a mouse and a bird. I don't know.

Who knows? I don't know. But I haven't seen any. I haven't seen a mouse at all in the kitchen.

Since I've tapered every gap up that I could find. And. I've cleaned.

I've cleared most of the tops. So there's nowhere for it to hide if it did get in there. Yeah, I'm not seeing it.

Just because I haven't seen it doesn't mean it's not around. But hopefully it's not around. The.

There's nothing in the living room. I've spent too much time in here to not see something. And.

Plus. I don't know. Generally, if you're in mice, don't want to be in the same area as a human.

They don't want to be near you. So, you know, kitchen food goes in there. And.

You know, five out of six flats in this building have mice or have had mice. The six flat. Probably has them as well.

I mean, how could it not? If five out of six in a building has mice and, you know, coming in and going, then the six ones go, isn't it? By just statistically, it's got. But I don't think the person will ever admit to it. Well, you know, I. And noise when I want to hear like.

Like that, can you hear that? But a lot more distance, not quite as loud as that. And I can't pinpoint where it is. If it's in the ceiling, if it's in the walls.

Because I've heard them in the kitchen. Well, like scrat and it's noisy. It's like actually quite loud because the kitchen echoes, doesn't it? It's a bit like the bathroom, quite echoey room.

So. I go in there in the past, I've gone in there and it's stopped. And I just stand there for a few minutes and it starts again.

So they're not, they're not that bothered. I just press pause. OK, on the recording.

Just for 30 seconds. I got up out of my chair and it stopped. The scratching stopped.

I walked over the other side of the room just to see if I could. Hear anything and nothing. And that started again.

It's weird. It's weird, weird, weird. I'll be honest, I'm not a big fan of them.

Oops. That's the. The armrest on my chair, it clicks.

It clicks when I move it. I got a message. I got a message.

It has. Podcast wise. I've only.

I've only had 12,000 downloads so far. Yesterday. Admittedly, the day's not over, but.

I had 15,500. And today. So far, only 12.

So. I think I might struggle to even hit 14. Which is a bit annoying.

Because it's been an upward projectile. Which is a hope. And I was hoping it would stick to that.

I was hoping really not to go below 15,000. However. I'm very aware of.

The day. And you know the period that we're at. So.

There's going to be a lot of people that are. Perhaps doing other things. Like especially tomorrow on the 11th of September.

And so in America and. Worldwide actually because it was such a such a huge event 20 years ago. So.

On. Days like that. I know Christmas isn't the same thing.

But on a day where people are doing something different. And it's I guess it's kind of a day of mourning. It's a day of.

People. Families. You know we'll be getting together and stuff.

Going to church and. You know. And it's going to this.

It's sometimes it's times these kinds of times when. The podcast stats do go down. People are doing other things.

Which is you know is. That's just how it is. So.

I suppose really my message to. Those that are in that situation. And.

I hope you're well and. You know it's. I don't really have any words for it really.

But you know I hope that you're all OK. Anyone that lost somebody on that day if anyone's listening. I don't normally talk about social events or.

Even anything particularly heavy and. I mean. This is about as heavy as you can get you know really.

So I hope that anyone that was affected. Which is millions of people actually. But those personally affected.

Which would be thousands. Hopefully you know well. I hope you're OK.

So that's it. No words really do. Can really do anything with that stuff.

But. The 20th anniversary. Is.

Of anything really is usually quite a big. For some reason I don't know we seem to put a lot of. Emphasis on.

Decades. You know sort of. 20th anniversary of a. I suppose when you turn 20 and things like that.

I don't know. I'm going to stop talking now. But yeah just.

It's always weird every year. But you know what I found weird this year. With Princess Diana.

On the anniversary. Which was. About a week ago just over a week ago isn't at the end of August.

It was mentioned. But I didn't see hardly anything on the news. And.

Maybe. I don't know. Maybe it's just.

I just seem to be strange. Because it was. In my lifetime.

When Princess Diana. Passed away it was. Probably.

The biggest thing. That the big well you say let's say the biggest news item. That's not a good description of it but it's the biggest event.

Really. That I remember ever happening. As far as.

News coverage and the. Just yeah it was it was nonstop. With what seemed like ages and ages and ages.

And. And that's probably in some ways similar to. Maybe when JFK.

Was assassinated in America. It was that. Such a historic event or Martin Luther King.

Such a huge historic event. Or Gandhi. Sort of in India Gandhi.

When he was assassinated. And. Yeah.

But hey I don't talk about assassinations and I'm not. That's not really why I make this podcast. It's like it's going to.

Completely different direction to what I would really want it to go. But you know this this is sort of life isn't it this is life this is what's. Going on and just.

It just. I mean I might. Talk about it tomorrow I don't know it's not cheerful stuff but.

There's always that like where were you when this happened and. There's not many memories not many events in like world events that I can remember where I was. I remember when.

The space shuttle space shuttle crashed. Or blew up. And I just got home from karate.

I think it was a Thursday night. So I got home at nine o'clock. And.

It was on the news. Maybe it was hot maybe I got home at 10 o'clock but yeah nine o'clock probably the nine o'clock news yeah. And I was like wow.

And it wasn't just old the space shuttle blew up and you know it's in America and technically wouldn't. It's not really. In itself is not world news.

You know it's it's American news it's it's yes a terrible thing that happened. But I think what made it world news is. The huge.

And the huge deal that was made. Over the space shuttle when it first launched. I mean I think every country.

In England it was live. And it was almost like the one of the biggest events in history. The space shuttle launching.

Even bigger was the space shuttle landing because that was the whole point of it. To be able to land and to be reused. And it was phenomenal.

So to have something. It was already kind of embedded in the consciousness of the nation. Well of like probably the Western world.

Possibly other countries as well I don't know. The importance of the space shuttle because it was it was a big advancement. It was the move towards not just.

Disposable rockets. Wasting billions of dollars. When something could be reused like the space shuttle.

I mean now it's got even further where they can take off and land in the same. Thing. You know which is pretty amazing.

So it's. Yeah things are definitely changing. But that was a big.

Obviously it happened twice didn't it. Happened twice. Happened again in the.

Early 2000s was it or the late 90s. I think it was the late 90s. So it happened in 80.

Probably 84. 85. And then it happened again in about 97.

98 something like that. I think one was the challenger. I think one was the discovery.

It's weird that I've got those names in my head. But I think that's correct. It's weird.

Other things I remember. Princess Diana. The.

11th of September. I was at work on that day. Trying to think of other really big.

Tiananmen Square. I mean not all major events are horrible. Turn it to Tiananmen Square.

Okay it was. I guess it was horrible wasn't it. I just remembered.

But there was. It was a massacre wasn't it. So yes definitely.

The correct term for horrible things. However there was. That.

Person standing in front of the tank. There was so much positivity. And optimism.

And. Selflessness. And.

Almost like captured. The world for a second. That.

Was just really powerful. I remember that. Not so much.

All the stuff that led up to it. But I just remember. Although I think about it now.

I remember how horrified I was. But just seeing that one person. Standing in front of.

The tank. Other things. I remember.

I just. I want to think of nice things but. I just.

You know here's me expecting. Nice things to be on the news. And of course they're not are they.

It's generally just really. Really horrible things that gets the. The most attention.

Apart from. You know when there's the Olympic Games is on. 2012.

When. We hosted the Olympic Games here. In London.

You know the news was. Olympic Games all the time. And because it was the biggest thing.

That almost never happened. To the country you know. At the time.

It seemed. And I guess during the World Cup. When we're doing well.

Like during 1990. Was it the World Cup? Was it the World or European Cup? 1990. No it's the World because it was Argentina.

So it must have been the World Cup. 90. 94.

98. 2002. 2006.

2010. 2014. 2018.

2022. Yeah. So the next World Cup is next year.

So yeah. 2000. 1990 was a World Cup.

I get a little bit muddled up. Between the World Cup and the European. The.

Yeah. The European Cup. Because.

Well. We kind of give it the same. The same kind of attitude really.

I think the same. The same oomph. The same.

About the team you know. We support the football team. We like the nation.

And it doesn't to me. It doesn't really feel that much different. The World Cup and European Cup.

Obviously it is. But it's still. To get through to.

The final or whatever just. It's phenomenal. And we.

Yeah we did really really. Really really well. This year in the.

The 2000. European Cup. Although it was played in 2001.

That's going to confuse the historic books. But you don't be looking back saying. But it was terrible.

Why was it played in 2000? Why was it played in 2001? What you have bad weather did you? You get washed off did you? No well actually there was a reason. I suppose it's like COVID. Will be something that be remembered.

But not for a big thing. Just for the long thing. It's not just like one.

Big thing that happened. Unless it was obviously a personal thing. It's just this.

Accumulation of lots of different things. That will make these years. The last two years.

Memorable memorable memorable. As opposed to one big event. And I'm thinking of other events.

That I'm remembering. There's been some strange stuff happen in my lifetime. Or our lifetime.

And there's so many strange things. And. I realize some countries are quite insular.

So. Probably like the bigger countries. They're less concerned about little countries.

Because they got so. They got just a lot to deal with. A lot to contend with.

If you got 300 million. Plus people or. Like China.

It's over a billion. If you got that many people. You probably not going to be that interested.

In what's going on in. England. Like a tiny little island with.

Maybe 70 million. You know it's just. Almost inconsequential to them.

Yeah they've got towns. Probably got villages. Probably got villages bigger than.

My country you know. I mean 60 70 million. That's like.

They probably have that many babies an hour. Over there. They probably don't.

It's an exaggeration. To point out the fact. That there's a large country.

That's what I'm trying to say. Do you get me. So I guess if you're.

Quite insular. Quite focusing on the world is your country. Then.

You're not going to maybe. Take much notice of what's going on. In other countries.

And I think that used to be. Pretty much. The same for.

Probably all countries. In the past. Pre.

Internet. And especially pre television. And pre radio before those kinds of.

Pre telephone. People would be born. They live and died in the same.

Place. Maybe even the same house. Some people travel.

But imagine before boats and ships. And planes. You know.

Your town. Would be the world. I mean literally.

Traveling across the ocean. Would be like. Deep space.

Think about it. That's what it would be like wouldn't it. You got on a boat.

You'd be traveling through space. That would be a spaceship. Taking you.

To another planet. The Isle of Man. The Isle of Man.

Or there's no. There's no women live there. That's why it's called the Isle of Man.

You do not know that. Or France. Get into France and suddenly.

They're aliens basically to us. This another planet. They're speaking.

With a different tongue different. You know can't understand them. You know.

Because we didn't. Before we met them. And it's the same with.

When they put him at us. I imagine most English people. Had beards.

I don't know if the. If electric razors. Electric razors had been invented by then.

Brawn. I don't think that was around was they. Who is the.

The electric razor man that said. I love the company so much I bought it. I know I love.

I love the razors so much. I bought the company. Oh man what was his name.

And I'm going to keep going on. Loads and loads and loads of podcasts have numbers. So I'm just going to get rid of the numbers.

Episode numbers in episode titles. All you need to know. It's at least a year old.

Ah. People are worried about episode numbers following an email from Apple this week. Don't panic.

Read on and discover what you need or do not need to do. What you need to do. So Apple podcast does not want episode numbers in podcast episode titles on its platform.

This does not mean you can't put episode numbers in podcast episode titles elsewhere. What? So how does that? Okay. I don't know what to do.

Don't know what to do. What should I do, man? Well. I could just take the numbers out.

Does it really matter? There are thousands of podcasts with episode numbers in. Thousands. Thousands and thousands.

So. Should I get rid of mine? What about the. I mean, some of the titles of my podcasts.

Have. Perhaps the same title, but a different number. Yeah, I might repeat the name of the podcast.

Like relax and sleep deeply. I might have a few of those dotted around. But one is number 142.

The other is hundred and. 394, you know. Some podcasts don't even have titles at all.

So the number is all it's got. So what do I do if I get rid of the number? What about people that like specific numbers? I don't mean like got a fetish for number seven. I mean people that like.

You know number 44. Let me boy to sleep because it's got the poo suitcase story as an example. Well.

I don't know. I don't know what to say about this. I mean really.

If I change really wanted to. Be. Bummers about it.

They could actually just say. They wanted to like you know. They want to bum everyone down.

You bring everyone down. That's you know. Why don't they just take control just say well we only you're going to have to host your podcast with Apple.

Pay Apple to host your podcast and here is you know. Otherwise you won't be on the Apple podcast. You won't be on the platform and they have probably 80% off.

Or maybe long more of the podcast world. They're the biggest player by a long way. I don't know.

I hate the idea. If I lost Apple that would be it. I'd go down.

They give me 80% of my podcast listeners. Or 81%. I mean you know let's base it 15,000 a day.

Let's say 10,000 a day. Okay downloads. So if I lost 80% I'd end up with what 2,000.

2,000 downloads. So 15,000 I end up with 3,000 downloads. From 15 down to 3. Talk about squashing dreams.

Blimey. That would just be pointless like well. 3,000 downloads a day.

Yeah, it's a million a year. But what's the point? It's when you've put that much energy to get to a level and then to just to have that level dropped right down. But then that was a year ago.

I've heard this before. So we've got to get rid of numbers and. If anything you know obviously it's got.

I've never had any problems with Apple. You know I've got an account with them. And they seem to be happy.

They check everything. They seem to be happy with what I'm doing. I do give.

Now all my all my recordings have titles as well as numbers. They didn't used to but they do now. I don't know.

Would it confuse people if I suddenly got rid of all numbers? I mean I quite like the numbers just to. Sort of to reinforce. I guess how many I've done.

I quite like to see that I've done. This is number 724. Of the Let Me Boy To Sleep.

It's a godsend for anyone who can't switch off. I like the content of what is being said, but it seems to be said very slowly. Well, I can't.

Some people talk very quickly. And for some people that talk very quickly, listening to someone that talks very slowly can be difficult. I understand because it's almost like waiting for someone to try and finish a sentence who stutters.

It's not your fault. It's not their fault. It's no one's fault.

It just can, I guess for some people that maybe struggle with that as far as patience goes. Yeah, I don't know. I mean, you know, it's best to listen to something that you like and to find a voice that suits what you need.

I mean, admittedly, I'm never going to be the right person to commentate on a horse race. Because I'll be like talking about how the horse race has just started and, you know, it'll be finished. Like, yeah, and Danny Rabbithead is in third.

And as they're going, really? Oh, it's finished. I don't talk fast enough. And I used to get that.

I used to get that when I was a kid. Like, hurry up, hurry up, finish your sentence. What are you trying to say? And then being in a house with brothers, there was almost like a competition to see who could get heard.

And I didn't get heard because I wasn't quick enough. I didn't speak quickly. Quick, quickly, real nice whistle.

By at least 14 and a half people are listening to me right now. See? I'm so obsessed with who's listening. Yeah, but if you did a TV program, you'd be or YouTube channel, you'd be interested in who was watching.
