Hello and welcome to jasonnewland.com My name's Jason Newland and this is Let Me Bore You To Sleep. Please only listen when you can safely close your eyes. There was a weird noise happen just then.
I don't know what it was. Sounded like a bird. Maybe it was a bat outside.
A bat. We do have bats. When I say we I mean the outside bit of where I live.
I'm in the countryside you see so um I've got no idea if that's relevant at all actually. But there are bats. You can see them banging against the lamp posts, the lights.
Which is weird because how can they see the light? I don't know. So yeah um it's Sunday 21st of March 2021. Had a busy day.
A very very very productive day. Been working on some recordings. Been working on just general you know stuff.
Also did my census. The census 2021 which is a thing that it's done every 10 years and I couldn't be bothered to do it but in the end I did it. I went online and did the thing.
It didn't take that long but it was it seemed very pointless really. Um yeah almost a little bit evasive. Evasive? Invasive.
Privacy. A little bit like just a little bit but not really but at the same time like especially the things about sexuality and race and stuff like that like is this really relevant? Do you really know need to know what gets me horny? You know I mean is that really relevant to running the country? Is it? Is it really? Is it? The the color of my skin is that relevant? Is it relevant? Is that relevant to anything? I mean what's the point in being taught that stuff like that doesn't matter? You know sexuality doesn't matter. Race doesn't matter.
Religion doesn't matter. You know it doesn't matter what other people's stuff is you know it's it's not important. It's important to them maybe but it's not important to other people.
Um almost like we shouldn't even notice it. Shouldn't even notice that someone's got a different um whatever. So if that is the case if we're not supposed to why why are you sending out these forms? So that you can actually calculate how many um heterosexuals there are and how many Roman Catholics there are and how many you know whatever.
It's just like really what's what is the point in that? I don't from an interest perspective like okay what perspective what percentage of the uh the English population? For me I'd be more interested in how tall people are. What population? What percentage of the population are over six foot three? You know how often do people go to the toilet? That's the kind of things that I'm more interested in. You know what percentage of the population regularly eat cabbage? Those are the things that I'd be interested in finding out.
Not what religion they have either adopted or been indoctrinated into. Brainwashed um I don't know I just think like come on how many how many people have got blue eyes? How many people have got green eyes? How many people have got really hairy ears? How many people are completely hairless? Like they've got a body that's completely hairless from the neck down. Adults how you know and where can I meet her? No what it's just like what how many people have got still got black hair or their original color hair in their 70s without any gray? That's that's the kind of stuff I'd be interested in knowing about.
But apparently that's not that's not relevant. They wanted about know about my last job if they even I had to give them the name of the company. Andre's gone to the toilet I think.
Oh that's nice. On the paper. Uh yeah I don't know if I really see the point of the census.
I mean really you know some of the things I want to know is how many illegals are living here. But they don't want to get that information from the census because anyone that's illegally living here is not going to be filling the census for them. What they really want to know is how many people are committing crimes.
But again they can't like they if they ask that on the form people aren't going to answer. What the government really wants to know is how many people are taking illegal drugs? How many people are drinking excessively? That's what the government really want to know. Really if they're honest that's what they really want.
How many people have got money hidden under their bed under the mattress? Now how much? That's what they really want to know. Maybe they don't I don't know. That's what I want to know.
And when are you going to be out? So I can come and get that money. I actually had an aunt while she was an elderly relative. My gran's sister I think.
And when she passed away this is 10 years ago or something. No more than that probably about yeah 12 years 13 years ago. 12 years.
She they found £50,000 or something like that under a mattress or under a bed. £50,000 and I think she also owned a house as well or the bungalow wherever she lived. So she left quite a lot of money but she was quite reclusive.
So she she didn't go out didn't didn't I suppose maybe I've inherited that a bit like me really. Just stays in and she used to phone my nan up every single week and talk for about two hours non-stop. Very chatty.
Very chatty. My nan was chatty as well. But even my nan she's like just she'd be sitting on the bottom of the stairs.
That's where the phone was. It was like a there was a you know a stand near the front door and then she'd sit at the bottom of the stairs listening to her talking. And she used to say she was drained at the end of it.
So for someone that never went out she's always had a lot to say. So I'm thinking maybe I've inherited that gene from her. Because I don't do anything but it doesn't stop me yabbering on and on and on and on.
I don't see anybody I haven't seen. Yeah I haven't actually seen anyone that I know since Friday. So it's yeah it's two days.
I'm not seeing a person. I've seen people. I mean I went out yesterday and got a little bit of shopping and then I went out took Andre for a walk earlier.
So I said hello to a couple of dog walkers I mean. And one day he seemed to enjoy being out but he didn't want to stay out. He wanted to come back.
He had his fill and I took him to the field and he's like sniffing like you could smell something he's following it. But it led him home it led him coming back the way that we'd just come and then he decided he wanted to come back. So you know when I take him well when we go out together to me he's in charge unless he wants to walk in the road then I'm in charge.
But he's in charge you know he if he wants to walk somewhere I'll follow him. As long as it's not down someone's garden and he tries to get in someone's house because he'd love to do that. He would if there was little ferret flaps in all the houses around he'd be in charge.
All of the different houses he would he'd love it that would just be he'd be making friends with everybody. He's such a cutie he is very cute he's very loving especially the way he just like smiles and just just like you know rubs himself over you and closes his eyes. Oh he is he's cute but he's also shy he's very shy.
See if if I'm for example if I'm downstairs or if I'm somewhere where there's somebody that he doesn't know he clings to me. So if I'm sitting down or not normally if I'm sitting down and I'm holding in my arms you know he'll have a little cuddle and have a kiss and a cuddle or have a little cuddle but it won't last long and he'll start trying to get off because he wants to do stuff he's got things to do he's a busy busy young man. If there's someone else in the room he just stays still looks at me and he cuddles me and he doesn't move.
Now he's not scared I know he's not scared but there's something there's something I don't know maybe he maybe he's nervous maybe he's he's got um maybe he's shy but he definitely seems to be gaining some kind of comfort from clinging to me. My stomach's are lumbling um yeah so oh by the way if uh what was it if anyone wants to help to help pay for the help me cover the costs this month running costs then please go to my pay my paypal account uh my links on my website. If you want to help I would be very very uh grateful and I'll see you in the next video.
Yeah it's expensive month this month actually the old uh domain name had to be paid for although it's I think it's Monday it's going to come out so I'm pretty much if you think of it as not so much helping me with the running costs think of it as maybe helping me with some food because I'm literally um the money's you know everything's gone so it won't be I've got another one two three four five six seven eight nine ten days before I get paid next.
So I've got ten days there's a little there's some food in the cupboard from my delivery but I didn't I didn't get much in a way of delivery didn't get much uh delivered um but yeah so I got ten days to go so I'm not quite sure how I'm gonna get get through it because I'll get through it but I don't know it's uh gonna be a little rough period you're gonna be hearing me in a few days just talking so weakly you're so hungry chocolate I need chocolate sustenance milky chocolate sustenance just a bowl
of cocoa pops that'll do just anything please that's what I'm gonna be like oh yeah I remember once uh I have talked about this probably in past 2001 I had this insurance job started in September in December or yeah like uh the last week of November or first week of December something like that they said to me no it was the last week of November they came up to me and said you're gonna have to have next week off so what do you mean they said well we have to they had got some rule about
um I'd earned a and I had to take it I wasn't allowed to not take it and they said well the only the only they couldn't let me have December off because it's a busy month so they said you can need to take it next week off I said all right I'm not bothered it's fine the problem was I had no money I'd run out of money I mean I'd moved and I still hadn't earned any bonus at that point so I was on very basic the minimum you know basic money which wasn't a lot
and it's really weird because I was okay for the weekend and come Monday or maybe Sunday even I had all I had you're probably not going to believe this I had right one jar of jam and I think I had uh two packets of crackers so probably not Monday it might have been Tuesday but anyway I know that I had three at least three days like Tuesday Wednesday Thursday where all I had to eat was a cracker was the crackers and that jar of jam that's it had zero food not even cheese or an egg
and I had no money not like zero not even 10 pence I had nothing I didn't know anybody because I'd only just moved to the town two months earlier less than two months in fact why do you have a two months so I was like what in retrospect I should have just called my dad and said look let me 100 quid till the till Friday please or 50 quid or whatever I'm sure he would have done it in fact I'm sure he would have even brought it to me if I was really that that stuck
which I was but what I could have done which I didn't know but first of all I could have gone to the soup kitchen and got a sandwich and some soup which is there every single night I didn't know that it was there because I'd only just moved to the town I didn't know what was there and that was you know it's mainly for homeless people people that were really hungry but I was really hungry so you know I've got no pride so I wouldn't do it in normal circumstances because that would be taking food
away from someone else that deserves it because I you know if you can afford if I could afford to eat I wouldn't do that but I had no no money no food drinking tap water which is fine not something I would normally do but I did and the whole time I just well I read a book what's the book called let me have a look I want to turn my chair around a second man's search for meaning so I read that book in those three days it's a very famous book man's search for meaning uh
it's sort of an introduction to logo therapy and well anyway it's a very famous book I was in the YMCA come on let's all sing it then come on get it off your chest YMCA everyone wants to live in the YMCA no they don't so I'm in I had a little studio apartment so there was a room with a bed but there's also a little kitchen and there was a little bathroom so it's self-contained everything that I needed at the time very very congested the whole building lots of people uh very noisy lots of chaos
and stuff which is probably what you'd expect from the YMCA but I was grateful to have somewhere to live and because I was struggling to find anywhere I had this new job I couldn't find anywhere and to start with I was living in a bed and breakfast which is expensive it's an expensive way to to sort of get by so the whole time and it okay two or three days but it's still a long time if you've got no food except a jar of jam and a packet of uh it might just be one packet
of it might have been two packets of crackers but I think there's one cream crackers very dry very dry about a year later or maybe it was two years later maybe about a year and a half later I discovered there's a restaurant downstairs see I used to go to the receptionist to collect my mail and that was it and there was a whole building next to where I was which was where the I guess people that are homeless were staying for shelter and the a lot of young people mainly young people they're not all young
but it's you know it's mainly they would get if the process I found out later on was if the person was responsible enough that they felt uh and they they behaved themselves in the YMCA hostel then they would get promoted to live in one of the flatlet things that I had a studio apartment so they'd get they'd be allowed to move into one of those but with some support you know some with a support worker and with counseling and things like that so it's a really good place it's you know it's really uh great for
young people who were probably a bit like me when I was sort of young because I was pretty much sort of left on my own I was living on my own at 16 and yes it's not easy it's not easy not easy to make the right decisions you know as far as like just eat anything really I don't know just I still don't I've never made a good decision ever yeah I'm sure I must have done once so I found out there's a restaurant downstairs and they were charging a pound for a meal yeah a
pound and because I lived there I was allowed to go to the restaurant and I say it was a canteen it was a canteen with tables it was I suppose not much different from what you would get at school really or in a maybe a workplace or something like that a school yeah but it was okay and I just I found out later and I did used to go down there so the reality is I'm sure I could have just gone downstairs said I've got no money I've got no food I've got nothing I get
paid Friday which I did so I got paid on I guess the last day of the month which was the Friday or the first of December or whatever whatever it was anyway and I knew that I had probably about 11 1200 pound going into my account it was the first it was the first month where I had a bonus so the bonus would have been from October yeah it would have been from the month of October like that's how they worked out yeah so it wasn't a big bonus it was you know but I was
definitely taking home over a thousand pound which was a lot when I had no not even five pence so I knew that money was coming in but I had nobody to borrow money off because I didn't I didn't know anyone well enough really I didn't you know even the people I was working with I'd only known them for a couple of months and that's not long enough to start borrowing money off people maybe if I'd have gotten into work and said look is there any way of something you know go to the HR department why
am I talking about this it's like 20 years ago but anyway I know that I had people in London that would help me but we didn't have things like PayPal or even being able to just you know online you know with mobile banking where you could just send someone some money so you know I could have gone to London if I if I had the money to get to London I could have borrowed 100 quid 200 quid even quite easy but as long as I paid it back but I didn't need that much I just
needed well to be fair I had a week off I wanted to do something with the time I really did I mean I had the weekend off before I had the whole of that week off plus the weekend off as well so literally that's what how many days is that nine days so nine days off without any anything to do I couldn't do anything because I had no money to do anything apart from go for a walk and at the end of November it's a little bit cold outside you know it's a little bit it's
a bit of a rubbish time that's why people go abroad isn't it why people go to Spain and Gibraltar and Thailand or wherever it is that's warm in November so I didn't didn't do anything it was a very wasted wasted week and I just sat there the one thing I did have I mean I had a television it was a black and white television I didn't even have a colored television it was an old black and white thing there was no excuse for that honestly I don't know I don't know why I didn't get myself
a decent television I could afford to but I didn't not in that week but previous because they're not expensive to get back then I could have probably got a even a second hand because for 50 quid I could have got a tv a color tv that was okay but no I had this old black and white thing with an aerial on that my dad gave me that he'd had in his shed I think he used to watch it while he was on the toilet and I didn't change it I didn't I don't know but what
I did have what I did have was loads of books hundreds of books because I've been collecting my book collection was even at that point was pretty good but nothing compared to what it ended up being like until until they they all evaporated a few years ago but I had yeah I had a really really good book collection loads of hypnosis books NLP books counseling books I mean actually years and years before I ever did any counseling training I didn't want to be a counselor I was just interested in the subject I had books on
creativity I had self-help books I had loads of books on sales because that's another thing that used to interest me in the 90s I used to read sales books even in the late 80s in fact late 80s I used to read sales books and I think I had the fantasy so I didn't I literally had zero self-esteem zero self-belief in myself really at all however there was this little niggle little niggle in my inside me that kept like thinking well what what if what if I actually am capable of doing something well of course nothing
came from that and I'm still waiting to find out if if there's anything that I'm any good at but that's not the point that's not the point of the story just follow me just just come back in time so I used to I suppose I'd if there was something I was interested in I'd study it I'd read about it and go a little bit over the top sometimes I'd you know I'd read lots and lots of books about the same subject and it'd be a lot of repetition I kind of thought it was quite a
good way to cement stuff sometimes I'd even write books out I'd write them I'd like you know I've written whole books by hand like a written book you know a paperback for a textbook I've written it out by hand sometimes verbatim like the whole thing other times abridged so I'd you know I'll if there's a paragraph that I like or a statement that I think is really interesting I'd write it out so I'd end up with a pad A4 pad 200 pages or whatever and I just I guess just take notes I'd be taking notes
from the book and again I thought that might be a good way to almost make that information a part of me integrate it within my neural network but it didn't work so I don't know why I bothered it might have done I don't know a little bit it might have stuck a little bit of gravy might have got might have done might a little bit just a little bit I do say if you chuck enough at the wall something will stick what's that noise oh it's Andre I think he might be in the bedroom I
don't know where is he I sometimes wonder if I'm talking too loud but you know what if anyone can hear me talking then they must have super hearing because I'm not talking loud at all at all no so yeah I used to read there was this book I read years ago when I was 18 so 1989 it's the summer and I was doing double glazing canvassing so I was knocking on people's doors seeing if they were considering making any changes to their home for example new windows or conservatory uh patio doors you know that kind
of stuff and then I'd try and talk them into having a free survey done or it's a free quote per survey you know so a salesperson would go around and measure up and show them what's available and it's an opportunity for the salespersons to to sell or to try and sell so my job was to get the leads and I used to get paid I got paid a set amount of money every week I also got paid for every lead where they I think I got paid a certain amount for every lead where the salesperson
was able to get inside the house so like it was a proper lead not just a made up one and then I got a money for every sale that they made so it was a good good job it was in some ways not in some ways it was my probably my one of my happiest working periods because I'd gone from see 1989 was yeah 1989 was a weird year it was a weird weird year the whole year is just a bit just a bit weird just a bit weird and it started off where yeah started
off with me working in a pub but it didn't it ended the new year ended so new year's eve 1988 I was working in a pub no yeah yeah so I was 18 and then I left the job because they wanted me to work new year's day and I said nope and they said oh they wanted to retrain me because the money was short and stuff like nope because I had a dinner with my nan and granddad booked so I missed Christmas because I was working so new year's day was kind of going to be
my Christmas dinner so I started the new year jobless and can't yeah yeah the year really started weird had a weird situation where I was living and then I found a job working on the docks so right at the beginning of the year that one that took me till about April yeah that was a weird year seriously so I had this weird experience with a couple that were living there and the bloke there was the man if you want to call him that thought that I was trying to get with his girlfriend which I wasn't
I was just friendly with her like friendly like got on well I thought I got on well with him as well so that went all weird and so I moved out of there stayed at my dad's but I also got myself a new job to start the Monday so I moved into my dad's the weekend started a new job Monday he put me up for just for a little while and job really didn't go very well and because the the the the the the further I get away from that time period the less I remember
what all the things happened because I had lots of jobs so I don't necessarily remember everything that happened in a specific order but I do know that I I was friends with one of the supervisors in a factory that I used to work in and I phoned him up and I said have you got a job for me can I can I come work there come come work for you not for him but he was a supervisor and he said yeah start Monday and that was it so I had a job to start and at
that point I think I'd already moved no I didn't no again I'm losing track really losing track of where I was yeah but anyway I moved around quite a bit during that period and then I had I think I was living sleeping on someone's floor and looking after their kid yeah because it was a two-bedroom flat so I didn't have anywhere to sleep so I ended up sleeping on the in the living room they were on a night shift because I'd met them at the factory that's it because I so I had nowhere to live
and they they offered me that place to to stay because I'd left that job and I'd gone to Spain to to live and I came I was only there for half yeah just there for half a day then I came back so I came back to nowhere to live but although my landlady let me stay one night and didn't have a job because I'd left it I just took off and that was the factory that I was at the what did I do yeah I must have moved in with them so the friends that were
my that I knew from work they put me up and said well if you look after the kid take her to school in the morning you can stay here rent free and just sleep on the floor there's a you know a bed some padded bed thing or whatever blow up bed you know because they were on night shift and the thing is it wasn't because they would come home for their lunch so their lunch break they'd come home and sit there with the lights on watching telly which meant I didn't get any sleep so I
also had no money my money ran out you know the money that I had from the job you know you know you know you know you know you know so I got a part-time morning cleaning job in the supermarket which was just across the road from where I lived or where I was staying and then I started hanging out with other people I didn't want to go back to that flat because I didn't really like it so I used to sort of be almost couch hopping I was homeless basically I was but I was called
couch hopping couch surfing what they call it I used to bounce up and down on the sofa and then yeah so then I went to that's it yeah what happened then what did I do then wow this is very muddly in my head oh I know what happened I know what happened oh yeah I know indeed what happened so I'd already been to Spain for the afternoon I was staying with this couple and their kid the summer holidays came which is probably what end of July they didn't um or June I don't know they said
well we're going away so you can't stay here for some reason I thought it'd be ideal really I'd look after the place while they were gone but they didn't want me there and they said well I said well it's all right if you uh I'll just they were heading towards Kent and I said well just drop me off there so maybe see some family while I'm up there and on the way they picked up this person a hitchhiker and I ended up going to France with this hitchhiker because that's where he was going I ended
up just following him to France so we spent a week in France hitchhiking and walking through the south of France because he wanted his best friend he wanted to visit him and see if he was okay because his friend was teaching mountain climbing or something so yeah so that's what I did then and then I came back it's the first time ever that I ended up with a suntan honestly I burn but for some reason I didn't burn in France which makes me think it's the French gene isn't it because my grandmother on my mum's
side was French as far as I know so I've got it must be a French gene in me which means that in France I don't sunburn doesn't make sense but hey I didn't sunburn I went brown I had yeah it was lovely and and it came back I've got no idea what I came back to really I don't know where I stayed when I came back genuinely don't remember at all but then I found somewhere else to live and like this all cheap cheap room and I found a job and the job was canvassing for
double glazing and I really didn't want to do it I just thought oh this isn't a proper job and then my left ear told my right ear yeah but you've never actually had a proper job have you which is a bit rude and it's true that's what I suppose at the time and then I thought I can't knock on people's doors at night or you know early evening at the weekends no no because that takes a bit of um I don't know the right word is blooded bloody mindedness I think you need to really have
some thick skin to do that job to constantly being getting told to go away and to keep bounce back and knock on the next door and then the next door and then the next door and my boss Jeff his name was he's departed long departed uh he's he was funny character really funny character uh former I mean he was in his 70s then and he was he used to sell he used to be a salesman he used to be a salesman and he taught me some sales techniques and he even though you know he's basically
it's a numbers game it's a numbers game knock on enough doors you'll get you'll get enough people say yes but the percentage of people who say yes is going to be tiny compared to the people that say no that's the nature of the game because it's random it's not targeted it's just a random thing you just you know choose a road and knock on every door in that road but it's a numbers game and I that's the first time I'd ever really even considered or heard of that concept and it kind of set me in
good stead for future sales jobs remembering that it doesn't matter if I've had let's say if I've taken let's say 30 calls or 40 calls for the day let's say on average if I do let's say do 50 calls average every day yeah taking calls in doing quotes now it doesn't matter I might need five sales or four sales two or three you know to a bare minimum to break even so I keep my job you know I might but let's say I need five sales or four sales let's say five sales a day 25
a week for example then it doesn't matter if I get one sale in the first hour or if I think I should get one every hour and a half see that works out about five hours during the day five sales during the day it doesn't work like that and I just that's how I got my head around that the bottom line is at the end of the day that I've got five sales and it doesn't matter if they come in the last hour or the last you know the last five calls end up being sales
or I get the last eight calls and I get five sales out of those or if it's the first five calls and I get sales it can come when it comes and then I kind of took the pressure off myself a bit then I expanded it and thought it's the same over two days if I don't get any sales in one day it makes no difference I'll just get 10 tomorrow even the supervisor couldn't see that the supervisors you know in the place they didn't have that way of thinking you need to share five by
you know if you haven't got five by the end of the day you're a failure well actually no no one ever called me a failure anyway not when I was there because I was I was good but I realized that you know it's about conversion but not necessarily you know over a week so what's that 551 52 50 so say 250 calls in a week probably more than that but 250 calls 25 sales 10 conversion so it makes no difference if it's spread out or if it's in one chunk so you go two days without
anything and the last three days get those uh 25 sales in the last three days I don't know what I'm going on about this but I also worked out like so I used to train people in the job but they used to put people next to me and I try and sort like let's work out how much you're getting paid how much is our hourly rate and then how because it was a salary so it wasn't hourly but you could work it out based on the hours that we did and then work out how many
calls do you take and work out how much each call is paying us so just to point out that even when the call person phones up and they don't want it we're still getting paid for that it's still a sale in a way I had some logic there and then with the bonus added on so let's say there's another uh 100 pound a week bonus let's say add that onto it and then you can work out firstly how much you get paid an hour when it goes up dramatically if you're getting paid if you've got
a bonus of 100 150 pound or 200 or whatever a week but then how much if you divide that by the calls that you take or by the quotes that you give you can work out like blimey I'm getting even though that person didn't take take this didn't want it I still got paid 10 pound for that quote so yeah it's uh but there was this I don't want to talk about it I don't know why am I why do I talk about anything why I read this book when I was 18 yeah 18 18
it was a sales book about I've read a few sales books and it's because of Jeff and it's because of I just had this almost like an awakening I was able to be myself probably an exaggerated version of myself but still I was having fun I was having quite a lot of fun actually as that was one of my probably the best summer I ever had was that which I'm glad I'm glad I it was it was a really really rubbish beginning of the year but then in some ways it was great because I went
to Spain for the afternoon that was an experience I'm still talking about it am I um I had a great time in France so that was brilliant and I met who turned out to be my best friend for 20 odd years so yeah there's a lot of good stuff I had some pretty dodgy things happen that year as well but that summer I was living on the beach I was living in a place where they I was living just near the beach actually like a two minute walk from the beach and I was I had
I was living oh yeah I had a room I had a girlfriend who was friends with the girl that lived there so I ended up dating her I I'd eat every day in a cafe so I'd have a like a proper cooked dinner every day I was their only customer and I'd be eating pizzas in the evening or whatever you know I just just I was drinking um champagne we won this competition they had this competition going on and this is I suppose kind of late summer not late late but probably in reality it probably
only lasted maybe six weeks five or six weeks this period but it was brilliant I really enjoyed it and I didn't I used to hang out with the people so I've made new friends the people I worked with there's only two of them a man and a woman are married but they were Dean and Nat and they were brilliant I really liked them a lot and and we I still sort of hang around with them a little bit but I also had some friends from the factory that I used to and a couple of friends
from school that I used to hang around with on the beach just just had some fun honestly it was it was quite nice got into a little bit of trouble not much nothing um I chatted up the wrong girl apparently but um generally and then but I find that the whole experience is quite funny so it was quite I enjoyed it and then the job came to an end suddenly the the company didn't want to pay for us they wanted to do advertising on the radio so it all kind of ended quite very quickly in
fact so I ended up moving to London yeah in I don't know September I think it was maybe October so I there's this book anyway and it had it was about this salesperson maybe it was a story about him in another person's sales book anyway but I just I fell in love with this idea and it was this they were talking about a flamboyant man big flamboyant he used to dress up in I don't know however he wanted to dress basically drove an expensive car and he was really flash and he'd go into the top
stores you know like Harrods in America but like the equivalent um those kind of really expensive stores and he'd go in and it'd be basically he'd be in charge of the stock for certain areas whether it's women's lingerie maybe it was I can't remember I think it might have been women's lingerie um but he is he was paid really well because he was brilliant at his job but he based it on making friends with the staff and with the management and you know he was almost like he was a member of staff himself and it
was just I don't know I quite liked that idea of being a bit special and not like how the teachers used to refer to me I mean it's the bit to be really good at something but at the same time to be successful like in every from every position from every angle so I kind of held on to that a little bit even like during the 90s during my 20s I was reading sales books even though I didn't have almost any really ambition to do it I just I kept the little fantasy it was my
little fantasy and then when I actually had the opportunity it was sale it was telesales calling out phoning people trying to sell mobile phone contracts and I was pushed into the job I was almost like by the job center and I was um basically didn't have any choice I had to go for an interview and if they offered me the job I had to take the job so they would have took anybody on really they weren't fussy well they took me on and I was really good at it I didn't expect to be but for
some reason I was really good at it and I came in after I think I did the job for about three weeks and I came in on a Monday and they were just staring at me maybe it was four weeks and I was like what's going on and they this is the management I said what was wrong he said have you seen the board I first of all said can you explain this to us please so I thought oh I'm in trouble he said have you seen the board and I said what so there's a
board and it listed everyone from top to bottom who sold the most who's basically you know the best and who was the worst on the board I was number two and they said how are you number two I said what do you mean they said well you don't sell nearly hardly nowhere near as much as some of the others but the difference was the people that bought off me wanted it they didn't return they didn't return the phone some of the other people people would say yes just to get rid of them and then they'd
return the phone when they got there or they just did and it's like wow so my conversion rate was really high they'd get more orders like the one at the top I think 50% and she was above me anyway in sales and everything and she was the whole time I was there but only her only he only she was ahead of me from that moment onward her name was Sian no Sian Sian Sian and she'd sit there and she literally put no effort in it was so natural to her that's what I mean I'm not
saying she didn't work but it was easy she sat there she was reading magazines and doing her nails and she was it was she was a natural but 50% of her sales got sent back so she was the top as far as how many sales she got but she's still the top of how many sales she ended up with because she got so many she was like you know brilliant and what she did but she only her conversion was 50% of her sales actually turned out to be duds where they turned they'd return them now
with me it was almost the opposite I was getting less than half of her sales but nearly all of them were staying people were keeping them and they wanted to know what I was doing they started listening to my calls what's he doing different to others and I said I'm hypnotizing them and I hypnotizing them um and I didn't really like the job but I kind of did at the same time but then I left and I went and worked in insurance selling car insurance on the phone and again I did really well there took
me a couple of months to get used to it but once I got used to it I was pretty good so maybe all that sales stuff that I was reading over the years did sink in maybe anyway I think that's probably where I was coming from when I was talking about stuff sinking in and writing stuff down and maybe maybe I don't know right on that note I'm gonna go I've chatted about nothing for long enough so thank you thank you for listening if you have been and remember to be kind to yourself because you
do deserve to be happy do something nice for yourself today or tomorrow treat yourself doesn't have to cost any money just even if it's just a bath or a nice walk or um eat something tasty I don't know whatever it is that you know that can give you that really nice feeling just that lovely feeling tired I bored myself into a sleep I think so take care lots of love bye
