Like comets blazing across the evening sky, gone too soon. Like a rainbow fading in the twinkling of the night, gone too soon. Shining sparkly and splendidly bright, here one day, gone too soon.
Like the loss of sunlight on a cloudy afternoon, gone too soon. Like a castle built upon a sandy beach, gone too soon. Like a perfect flower that is just beyond your reach, gone too soon.
Born to amuse, to inspire, to delight, here one day, gone one night. Like a sunset dying with the rising of the moon, gone too soon. Gone too soon.
Hello and welcome to jasonnewland.com My name is Jason Newland and this is Let Me Bore You To Sleep. Let's take that headset off. Sorry about the introduction.
I like to play around and do different things so I thought I'd start with a thong. A nice little thong. Gone Too Soon by Mr. M. Jackson.
So please only listen when you can safely close your eyes. I do have a message here. Let me have a look.
Let me have a look. Where is it? Where's the bloody message? It's weird today. 10,000 downloads exactly.
How weird is that? 10,000 on the dot. It's very strange. Very strange indeed.
A message I had was from... OK, Kathy, listening in Switzerland. Loving your ideas. Thank you Kathy, in Switzerland.
What's the other message? Let me have a look. So, a message from Karen. Listening to your latest Boy You To Sleep now.
On a bit about stats. LOL. Well, isn't that ironic just as I'm talking about stats.
Thank you Karen. Look, I like to share. I like to share.
That's part of this podcast, is sharing my life. Sharing my dreams. I'll share my dreams with you.
Sharing stuff. It's a sharing Karen podcast, you know. Here's something else to share with you.
Hope you got that. That's a big fat fart. There you go.
I've made four recordings today. Four different recordings. So it's been a good day for that.
I've done a deep sleep whisper hypnosis recording. And I did a relax and sleep hypnosis daily recording. And I did a stress and pain relief podcast recording.
And now I'm doing this Let Me Bore You To Sleep recording. So yeah, I'm trying to do four a day at least. Andre, that wasn't me that time.
That was Andre. And I can tell because his ones are way wetter. And now I do try to do four.
They're all different podcasts. So but some do I do share them. I do share them on other podcasts as well.
But the deep sleep whisper hypnosis podcasts, that podcast itself only has those podcasts on. The Let Me Bore You To Sleep podcast only has these podcasts on. Apart from the bedtime storytime recordings.
I do share them on here. On the Let Me Bore You To Sleep. Because it was firstly kind of aimed at this audience.
Yesterday, all my trouble seemed so far away. I did. There's a bit of a problem with the Apple podcasts.
Some of them were invisible apparently. But it was a slow day. But I still ended up getting 9,582 downloads.
It was kind of one of those days where it was slow through the day. It's a very slow growth. I will end up with more than 10,000 for today.
Probably because I don't that it ends at 1.30 in the morning. But there's even sometimes I go to bed at four. I want to get up.
The stats will be increased because of correlated them. And, you know, made them all correct. Correct.
So why am I sharing my stats with you? I don't know. I like the idea of sharing the journey, you know, because some of you have been listening to me for a long, maybe way too long time. Some have been listening to this podcast from its inception over three years ago.
Some people have just started listening today. Hello. Welcome.
Those people that have been listening to my recordings and podcasts for 10 years or even 15 years. Bless you. Thank you.
Seek help. Run very fast. Run away.
So, you know, I've got some people that are new. Some people that have become older with me, you know. It's amazing that I was in my, I was 35 when I started making these recordings.
30 bloody five. And now I'm 50. Crazy.
Absolutely crazy. It was a different. Wasn't this a different decade? It was just a different decade.
I was going to say a different century. But that's what I started. Doing hypnosis was 1998.
So I've been around a while. A bit of a while. Oh, yes.
Blimey. Blimineck, mate. Blimineck.
Wowzers. So, yeah, I'm quite. I like to just follow the stats.
I don't know if I told you the. Got an email from. Where was it? Ironically, I got an email from not really ironically, but I think it was a genuine email from.
Apple podcasts telling me that I could now charge a subscription for my podcasts if I wanted to. So offer a podcast without adverts, but for a subscription. Now, I've not looked into it.
And I'm going to look into it. I don't know if it's sort of having a separate podcast or having the same podcasts. But offering them because I guess for it to be prescription prescription subscription.
They would have to be private and not available to the general public, which means they wouldn't be available on other podcasts. I don't know. I'm not really sure.
I'm going to look into it anyway. Have a little look. Just see.
And. They're making it available to, I think, pretty much everyone that does podcasts, not just to the. Hugely successful ones.
Which I'm not among. It's just I guess everybody. I am.
I feel privileged just to be just to be careful. Just to be counted, just to be noticed. So, yeah.
Yep, yep, yep, yep. Haven't done much today as far as. Well, no, it's not true.
I went out. I did go out to the shops. This afternoon.
I did take Andre for a walk, but he didn't even get down on the floor. My little pouch on my top. And just laid there with his face out, sticking out, just enjoying the breeze.
Didn't want to. Didn't want to walk at all. So I didn't care.
Didn't matter, really. Just got me my little bit of exercise, I guess. And he just didn't want to get down.
He was happy being asleep or just looking at the passing stuff, having a little sniff at the field. And he couldn't be bothered to move. It's not normally like that.
Normally, at some point during the walk, he walks. You know, he catches a smell of something and it drives him crazy. He just has to get down and search for it.
But nor today. No, nor today. Yeah, I've noticed that my.
Listeners. I've got a lot more listeners, not a lot more. An increased number of listeners from places like Sweden and Switzerland.
And Norway as well. That's pretty cool. I'd love to be able to break into the.
Sort of get into the Chinese market, the Chinese audience. Because it's just so big. You know, America is still the top audience I have as far as the amount of people that listen.
UK is second. And then from then on, it's it's quite a lot smaller for every other country. But like Canada.
New Zealand, Australia. South Africa. Ireland.
Or should I say the island of Ireland? No, Ireland. If you go to any. Pretty much anywhere.
I imagine if you say, you say, you say, where are you from? You say, I'm from Ireland. Or, you know, you say, I'm from Ireland. They're going to know, not unless they say, which, which island? What? Britain or.
Which, which island? I'm trying to think of an island. New Zealand. That's an island, isn't it? Australia.
It's a country, but it is an island, isn't it? It's not connected to anything else. It's big enough to be a continent, really, isn't it? But it isn't, though, is it? Belgium? I don't know. So.
You say, no, no, Ireland. Oh, you mean the island of Ireland? Oh. No, Ireland.
Yeah, it's really weird. Is the. I sometimes feel like the news.
Television and political programs and these kind of things are trying to educate the public, the general public. To start using different words and different phrases. Which the general public didn't used to use.
And I've noticed that the politicians, they must get handed out a dossier of words and phrases and terms that are all supposed to share and use. One such one was. Boots on the ground.
When referring to war, when referring to troops being, you know, going to war as opposed to just missiles from a distance or from, you know, planes and stuff. Boots on the ground. And the amount of times I heard that term on so many different television programs and different politicians and all using that same term, boots on the ground.
Or another one was a needle in the arm. Get that needle in your arm. Still talking about.
Yeah, that's something that most people are discouraged from doing. You know, now it's become a like a positive thing. Put a needle in your arm.
The vaccine thing. So. What other ones? And this turns.
Let me think. Let me think. I think of a few.
Oh, another term like let me be clear. Let me be clear. Politicians saying that let me be clear before they go on and say something really vague.
Let me be clear. And what other things are there other terms that have been overused? Unprecedented has been an overused term. The new normal.
Yeah. Shut up. Shut.
Up. The new normal. Oh.
That's the new normal for you. Running off. No, no, stop.
You don't have to repeat these phrases. You don't. You can be your own person.
Use your own work. Use your words. That's what you say to a little kid, little toddler, isn't it? Use your words.
Use your own words. Boots on the ground. Needle in the arm.
Unprecedented. Yeah, I'm just trying to think of other ones. So you've got things like.
Just like a term. Common good. For the common good.
We're doing this for the common good. For the common good. It's social justice.
That's a weird diversity. It's very, very multicultural. Very diverse.
We're a very diverse group. Very diverse. There's lots and lots and lots.
Trying to think of some more. Yeah, it's just, I don't know. I think it's.
Can't there be. Can't there be just. I don't know.
I mean, one thing is, I think the during the election. And also during the. What's it called? The budget.
The conservatives who are in power at the moment. Of this here little country of ours. They say that, you know, this budget.
Or. The Conservative Party is here. To help hardworking families.
Now, there's a lot of families in the UK that don't work. Millions probably, in fact. But the way they were hardworking families.
Some would say, well, yeah, just because you're not working, you still. Still be can be working hard to bring up a family. Which is a very, very fair point.
But that's not what. Alexander Johnson is talking about. He's talking about people that are working.
Hardworking. Yeah. Unprecedented times.
Unprecedented times. Let me be clear. I mean, that's what's the name? The witch.
What's the witch? What's the name? Patel. She's. Let me be clear.
She's. Awful, awful politician. And I don't know if there's that many good ones, but she's just awful.
Oh. Oh, just as a. Just. Almost got a smug look on her face.
Apparently, someone had to apologize for saying that about her. That she was smirking. Like that's a lot publicly apologize.
Sorry to say that she smirks. She does smirk. But then I got nothing to lose.
What are they going to do? I could say what I want. So it's good. She's a smirker.
It's not a bad thing. It's just the way she is. She's got a face that smirks.
Whether she's smirking or not. She looks like she's smirking. Like she's laughing inside.
And she thinks she's better than people. And she's just looking down on them. And that's all stuff that comes out of my own imagination.
Because she may not be doing any of those things. But she is. Yep.
I may be wrong, but I'm not. What's this? Oh yeah. Putting boots on the ground.
Of course. Stupid. Some of these other ones that are like really old.
Like at the end of the day. If you. If you hear someone that uses that term.
They're going to use it a lot. People generally don't use a term at the end of the day. Unless they really use it.
They use their hell out of it. They use it a lot. At the end of the day.
You know what I mean? At the end of the day. And usually it's. I've found people sometimes.
I don't know. Do you think that. There must be a guidebook for being.
For sounding dumb. Because I'm sure they're not dumb. But they just want to sound dumb.
When it comes to things like race and. You know that kind of stuff like. I'm not racist.
But. And then list off a reason. Loads of reasons why they are.
It's. But it's always the same stuff. It's always.
It's almost word for word perfect. As if they've kind of. Studied the text.
Of. Cliches. That are used.
About things like immigration. And stuff like that. They find it weird.
And very lazy as well. Very lazy. I got this stupid cough.
I tell you I wish it'd go away. Don't like it anymore. Used to love it.
But now it's annoying me. Yeah. So.
I'm just having a look. Yeah. I'm trying to think some more.
Other ones. Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam. I'm going to actually Google now.
Google a few. See if anything comes up. These words are so overused.
They've become meaningless. This is the Huff Post. I thought it was a Huffington Post.
And let's have a look. Here we go. Literally.
This is one of the ones they don't like. Unique. Originally meant unlike anything else.
But is used to mean different. To some degree. From the standard of the norm.
Well. The language. The language does change, doesn't it? You know, some people stick to the language as if it's.
Well, that's what the dictionary used to say. Well, even the dictionary gets updated, darling. Even the dictionary gets updated, me love.Me lover. I struggle with people who say that. Lover.
Like sweetie. Like lover. What? Like sweetie.
Why? Why are you saying that? Why? I don't understand it. Well, why are you? Why are you saying sweetie? Why don't you say? Okay. All right, duck.
Duck. I'm not a duck. What are you saying duck for? Some people around the world or in the country.
Do use words like duck and love. Hey, love. Love? To be fair, I don't mind the word love.
Because it's a nice word, isn't it? It is nice. I mean. There's many times I thought I could do more love in my life.
Not once I thought. I need more ducks. You know, love is.
I don't mind love. Love. Love is good.
Love is a good thing, isn't it? Obviously, I guess. But words change their meaning. And a good example of that.
Is. Probably not a good idea to. Walk up to someone.
At a football match. Walk up to a man at a football match and say. I like your shirt.
You look very gay. Probably not a good idea. You might say.
What's wrong with that? What's wrong with being gay? It's nothing. I can't see any reasons. The only thing I can see wrong with that.
Is the person is probably going to get. In trouble for. His.
Verbalizations. Because that word isn't doesn't mean. It doesn't mean what it used to mean.
I'm bright and gay. Used in no coward state. Probably not a good example, but.
In you know in the old days. It meant bright and happy. And.
I know people that still use it like that. Because they refuse. To change.
And move. And accommodate. The passage of time.
They refuse. Nope gay means jolly and happy. And that's what I'm going to use it for.
I will not use it for anything else. And the people I've met like that. They got no issue at all.
Don't care all about sexuality. That's not the issue. Is they want to keep that word as it is.
They refuse to use it for anything else. Awesome. That's another word.
Again people say awesome instead of cool or good or gravy. Groovy or whatever. So what.
I don't think that's. An issue amazing. Again same.
Totally. Okay, but this is just. Picky picking pinny picking the weather.
Not pinny picking what's it. Not bogey picking. Finger picking.
You know. Last year. I remember in February.
KFC adverts. Showing people licking their fingers. Finger licking good finger licking good.
And then. I think the next month saying. They're saying KFC.
Please don't lick your fingers. Please stop licking your fingers now. It's like blimey.
They've been encouraging. You could say KFC. Is the cause.
They've been encouraging people. To go out in public. To be touching door handles.
Getting on buses. Touching. Sharing.
Stuff with other people. That haven't wiped their bums. Or haven't cleaned their hands for years.
And then saying. Come into our place. Have something to eat.
And then lick your fingers. Lick those. And of course you're not going to taste.
All the other germs. Because you're tasting. Beautiful tasting KFC.
Not sure where that came from. But yeah. Yes.
Yeah they did. Please don't lick your fingers anymore. Please don't.
Can you wait a little while. They actually put it in an advert. You can come in.
Because they closed everything. Then they opened them again. You can come back.
But maybe don't lick anything for a while. No licking. We're more just.
Lip licking good. Finger licking. They shot themselves in the.
In the bum hole with that one. Finger licking good. Yeah please don't lick anything.
Incredible. Originally meant impossible to believe. But it's now used as a general positive description.
Like great or cool. Yeah. A lot of this is just verbal filler.
It's meaningless. And. I don't really know.
I mean it doesn't really matter. Oh here's some. This is from.
Acrolon. Acrolinks. Dot com.
I've got no idea what that's about. I think it's just. Anyway they've listed words.
To live by. Words to avoid. Given 110 percent.
OK. Don't hear that that often. Sometimes people do.
Out of left field. Not something we use here in the UK. Because.
It's a sport in. Isn't this like a baseball. Phrase.
And we don't have baseball in the UK. So. Well I think there is but it's not.
It's not classed as a sport. We have rounders. But that's you know.
I think that's where baseball came from. I think it was rounders to start with. Basically just a game.
A little game for kids. And then I think. America took it up and.
Created it into. One of the biggest sports in the country. I always fought with rounders.
I mean baseball. Surely. If you.
Wouldn't you. If you was a batter. You was batting.
And I think you get three goes. Don't you. You do this in.
In the kiddies game. Rounders. You get three chances.
And. You hit the ball. And then you just run around.
And however many. Basically how many times you run around. Is how many points you get.
However long it takes for them to. Get the ball back. Now.
If the ball is the other side of the field. Which sometimes it did. You'd have to.
Or meant over a hedge. You have to climb over the hedge. And you could not get quite a few.
Runs is it. But you'd run all the way around. A few times.
Now. I think if I was in bats. If I was a batter.
I would aim. To hit that ball. Well they call it out of the ballpark.
It's basically out of the stadium. Every single time. I mean really.
It should be. Imagine if you're doing the same thing. Over and over again.
You would. Pretty much if. You'd hit the ball.
And it would go. You go where you wanted to go. You know if you hit it up.
Ideally. It would go over the stadium. So that you'd always.
Get a really good score. You can tell I don't know anything about. Basketball.
But hey. But it's. Yeah so I think that's where the.
The term. Comes from. Out of left field.
At the end of the day. Again we talked about that. He was a comedy.
What's his name. Buddy Hell comedian. He used to be an American.
He kind of. At the end of the day. At the end of the day.
It's night. Get your ducks in a row. No never heard that.
Content is king. Well. Yeah.
Because. Online. YouTube.
Stuff like that. Content. Get granular.
I've never heard of that before. Think outside the box. See that's such an old term.
It was. Fresh. About 30 years ago.
Maybe longer. You know I think. We think out of the box.
Now it's. It's kind of a bit meaningless now. Synergize.
I haven't heard that used for years. A no brainer. The game.
Not something I really hear very often. Hit the ground running. See.
I think that's quite a good term. You know if you. Yeah.
I think it's quite a nice term for. Just quite. It's quite a compliment to.
A new employee. You know how's. How's little Bobby doing.
I know he only started Monday. But how's he doing. Real I tell you this.
He's he's hit the ground running. What do you mean. He did he fall over.
Did he fall over. No no. He hit the ground running.
Did he hurt himself. I hope he didn't scuff his shoes. Like he did when he was at school.
No madam. Your son. Is that your son is it.
Yeah it's just my son. No no matter what I mean is he. He hit the ground running.
What was he doing running. I hope he wasn't carrying scissors. Get get the ball rolling.
Keep your eyes on the ball. Again sporting and. Kind of sporting things in it.
On the same page. We'll all use that. I imagine everyone's.
Use that terminology. Because these are just. Almost.
Lazy ways of not explaining. You know maybe shortcuts. But then there's the technological.
Terms. That would never have been used before. Broadband.
You know 30 years ago. Broadband. Bandwidth.
Streaming. I mean you know back in 30 years ago. The only thing that really streamed.
Was your eyes when he was. Crying. Her eyes were streaming when she cut.
Those onions up. Well. Keep them away from your eyes then.
Don't use your eyes. Use a knife. It might be easier.
Leverage. Bang for your buck. See that's not something that would be used.
That often in the UK. Of course because. A buck is a dollar isn't it.
And we don't have dollars here. We have pounds. I suppose.
Our equivalent to a buck. Is a quid. So if you say.
Well. I'm going to spend my. I'm going to go and work.
The weekend on the iron rig. And make myself a few bucks. We might do the same thing.
I'm going to get myself a paper round. And make a few pound. Yes.
Sort of similar kind of thing. How to avoid using. Cliches.
Don't use phrases. It's what it says here. Think about.
What the phrase or expression. Actually means. And work your way back.
From there. You'll be able to identify. Some key words.
And rewrite your sentence. Minus. The cliche.
Oxford Dictionaries. Has some helpful. Advice.
For struggling. To define the meaning. Look up.
The cliches. In a dictionary. And use the definitions.
As a starting point. To look up synonyms. In a thesis.
I'm going to get someone else. To read the rest. Often.
A cliche. Or overused phrases. Can be directly replaced.
If a straightforward replacement. Is obvious. Then make their switch.
Finally. Ask yourself. Whether your content.
Actually needs the expression. A lot of cliches. Are fillers and padding.
If the idea isn't important. Or doesn't add to the content. Then cut it out.
Cliches will understandably. Sneak into your content. On occasions.
If you're challenging yourself. To create a better copy. Using original ideas.
You'll undoubtedly. Raise the bar. Oops.
There's another one to avoid. He he he he he. Yeah.
Cliches a bit. Here's one. Here are the most overused words.
In writing. This is from Grammarly. Grammarly.com. The word.
Appears. Over five million times. In a day.
Across Grammarly products. It's understandably why. Other is applicable to.
Basically. Any situation. When you're trying to figure.
Something out with a person. You can ask for. Any other suggestions.
Solicit. Other opinions. or ask someone for other times that work for them.
Try these alternatives, alternative times, further suggestions, different opinions. Okay, more. This is an overused word in writing.
More is one of those catch-all terms. In some cases, more can mean the same thing as other. Sometimes, this is just the most accurate word to use.
So don't worry too much about trying to get this one out of your rotation. Rotation? That's something that arm socket goes into. Check out other for some alternatives.
Try these alternatives, additional perspectives, incremental improvements, greater context. Okay, fair enough. New.
This is another one. New, overused. New products, new information, new person.
We're encouraging new things every day, but new could refer to things like time, technology, or an update. Specify what kind of new you mean and use that word instead. Okay, don't have to if I don't want to.
Good, good is another one. Good, overused in writing. Good is just not good enough.
Next time you qualify something as good, think about how good it is. You could be referring to something that's slightly better than something else, something that's a suitable or something that's really good. Chances are there's a word to suit each situation.
Best. So these are words that are used too much in writing. It's a bit boring really, isn't it? Many.
Many may seem like a go-to option when referring to an indeterminate group of things. But if you have an idea of the volume of what you're talking about, it's better to narrow it down. If you don't, there are additional interesting ways to express a vague number.
So when I write my book, I've got to miss out all these words. Important, great, first, able. First, why is that? Apparently the reason first is it says first is the initial.
See what we did there? Words. Word most people think of when starting a list. If you really are listing a series of items or steps, don't worry too much about using this one.
But similar words can get the job done. Okay, fair enough. Able.
I don't think I use the word able very often. What does it say about able? You may not think of able as an often used adjective. But this word appears whenever you ask someone if they will be able to complete a task.
Next time you want to ask someone if they'll be able to do something, use another phrase. Blimey, that was a bit aggressive. Great, apparently great is, shouldn't use great too often either.
Why is that? Great is a stronger word than good. But not by much. If you're already expressing enthusiasm for something, set it apart.
Set it apart. Say something different. No, I don't want to.
Important. Obviously we can't say important either in a book. No, overused is it? Important.
Why? We all believe our emails are important. But you can almost guarantee that your reader's eyes will skip right past the word important. Since they see it so often.
Distinguish your information by giving it a colorful description. But don't go overboard on it. Maybe try these alternatives.
Critical steps. Urgent action. And my favorite one.
Essential information. No, I feel like I'm being a bit picky. A bit too many apparently.
It's not good. I've already done that haven't I? No, I've had enough. That's it.
Go away. I wonder, phrases from the past. Overused words 2020.
Okay, let's have a look. Okay. These are the buzzwords of 2020 according to adagi.com. Human.
Okay, fair enough. BSH and B4H. I've no idea what that is.
So that's marketing. Unprecedented. Yep.
Yep. Yep. Challenging.
New normal. I've already talked about that didn't I? Heroes. Everyone's a damn hero now.
From retail to healthcare. Marketers call out frontline workers as heroes in pandemic ads, banners and signs. It would seem more sincere had the copy read.
We're boosting our heroes pay by 50% by cutting senior executive salaries and bonuses. Because why should they make so much more than the frontline workers just for sitting home on Zoom meetings? That's what it says there. CTV.
What did I hear someone say earlier? Oh man, I was in a movie. But this woman, they were both having a meeting in a restaurant. And I'm pretty sure she said BTW.
I thought of you the other day when I was beat by the way. So BTW. I could not continue the meal.
If someone came out with that. I remember I knew someone once and I said something that was mildly amusing, but you know, probably didn't really wasn't perhaps the best joke. But it was kind of mild joke, whatever.
And he said to me, lol. So instead of laughing out loud, he just said lol. And which I think, in retrospect is probably him being sarcastic, as in like, it wasn't funny.
Therefore, lol. lol. Another example of how things changed was when I talked about this, when I had a bereavement.
And one of my Buddhist friends sent me a text saying, so to hear sorry for your loss. Hope you hope to see you soon. Yeah, sorry about your loss.
lol. Now that person is in their 60s. And lol, 20 years ago, did not mean laugh out loud.
It meant lots of love. So if you sent someone a text with lol, it was lots of love. So that's what he was doing.
He wasn't saying, sorry to hear that you then died. Laugh out loud. He wasn't doing that.
It was, it was lots of love. Because I knew him. I knew him well enough to know that he wasn't, you know, he wasn't gonna send something like that.
But I know if a young person put lol, they wouldn't be thinking lots of love, they'd be, it'd be laugh out loud. Which would be quite rude, actually. Yeah, anyway.
Oh, got an itchy, itchy knee, itchy knee. Oh, I love having an itchy knee. I'm so happy with it.
It's made my day. Oh. Oh.
So anyway, that's me. That's me for today. I'm gonna go in a minute.
I'm gonna, I'm gonna get on my bike and ride away. Fly away, fly away, fly away. Fly away, fly away, fly away.
If you're ready, go to bed, get everybody. Hello. Oh, fly away, fly away, fly away.
That was Enya, of course. Anyway, thanks for listening. Remember to be kind to yourself.
Because you deserve to be happy. Do something nice for yourself. Lots of love.
Bye.
