Hello and welcome to jasonnewland.com. My name's Jason Newland and this is Let me bore you to sleep. Please only listen when you can safely close your eyes. I'm going to talk a bit quieter in this because I'm recording it at 5 30 in the morning and I don't want to disturb the neighbor although shouldn't really be able to hear me anyway.
I put some I took some of the soundproofing off the shed and I put it on the wall in the living room where the birds scratch because the birds are in a I don't know I think there's a cavity or something and the birds get in and they're nested and they scratch and scratch and now nothing listen nothing they're definitely they're doing it you can't hear it now.
I've never been so excited ever so there's in parts of it is three layers of soundproofing so now what I'm going to do is gradually you know uh every week or two I'll get a strip of the soundproofing I'll pay for a nice strip and I will eventually cover the entire wall of this room threefold which means it should be really quiet in here you won't be able to you won't be able to hear anything at all before so I'm quite pleased about that quite pleased I haven't really been able to make many new recordings
the last couple of days because I've a cough and yeah it's been going on for about a week now so I'm thinking is it or isn't it I'm not sure so the only way to know if it is COVID is to get a COVID test and the only way to get a COVID test is to go it's probably six miles from here which would mean probably a lot further actually probably about eight miles away it would mean getting onto public transport to get there or a taxi both of which I'm not allowed to do or
you're not allowed to do if you think you've got COVID I do try and edit out the coughs I cough when I laugh as well I cackle like an old witch so I just think yeah I've looked into it if you think you've got it if you've got symptoms now the only symptom I was a little bit uh yeah the only symptom really is the cough and but it's still a symptom so I kind of well I can't go and get tested because you know it means getting on a bus oh yeah the bus times
they're normally every hour or no every half hour normally every half hour the buses they're every hour on a Saturday and every two hours on a Sunday there's now four buses a day brilliant eh I couldn't believe it when I looked at it because I've got the um where is it oh yeah I've got the bus timetable on my phone so Tuesday 26th of January which is 2021 going to going to town oh where is it okay here are the times for today 8 47 12 44 6 44 in the afternoon and 8 54 in
the evening so 08 47 12 44 16 44 and 20 54 so every four hours I was like I know I live in a little village but it's between two big towns and the buses go between constantly you know it goes through you know every or every half hour a bus comes through or at least it did in the past four buses a day uh well it's like going back in time but I know I think there are some places in the country or there used to be where you know like one bus a day
but then it wasn't going anywhere it was literally come into the village and then maybe going around all the different little villages but this bus is going from town big town to another big town I already said that I know so a couple of things what's happened to um getting rid of the shed hasn't worked out at all it was a bad idea but you know what not all ideas are good and if we don't ever go if you never if you never follow an idea up then you never end up anywhere you know we
have to I think we have to follow ideas not every idea obviously otherwise well I'd be in prison probably but most you know it seemed like a good idea at the time um but the good thing about it I'm getting rid of the shed is the soundproofing's come off and I can reuse it in here so I haven't lost the soundproofing which is some of it I got as a gift so that's really positive and but the shed itself is has been dismantled over the last couple of days which means I get my bedroom back
so the plan is I'm going to move the bicycle the exercise bike into the to the bedroom and the weights and basically anything to do with exercise will be in the bedroom I might even move the punch bag but I don't know not not just just yeah not now I'll probably just leave it where it is for now but I might end up moving that in there as well so that's the plan so that will free up a little bit of space in here because again a bit clogged a little bit a little bit you
know so for me to get to my bookcases I've got to step over the bicycle which is mildly mildly annoying what I say but I say exercise bike the dust collector is what it really is so yeah it's it's it's all right it's okay the other thing I if you were listening to a podcast on Wednesday last week I had a delivery and the cat food Andre's food wasn't on the delivery I'd ordered it paid for it and it didn't come I phoned up Sainsbury's supermarket they said we didn't order with us I said oh
so I then phoned up as the that was the wrong one so you know I phoned around till I found the right place and they said well it must have been left on the van and I said well you need to bring it to me please because I paid for it I've also paid four pound for a delivery you pay extra four pound for the delivery you put it up now they're in demand they've put the delivery prices up which I think is four pounds for deliveries when you think about I've spent a hundred let's
say I spent a hundred pound I suppose the minimum order is 40 pound so that'd be paying 10 on top for the minimum order 80 pound so it's five percent added on so I probably got 120 pounds worth so that was two and a half percent I don't know I don't know don't ask me I still think I just think it's a bit cheeky to be fair used to you know it wasn't that long ago you could get a delivery for a pound or if you bought over 100 pounds worth it'd be free don't worry
not no more not no more and the lady said to me nope he's not the driver's not going to come back to your place and give you the cat food I said yeah he needs to do that no he's not he needs to no he's not and just went backwards and forwards and hung up on me so that's kind of how that conversation went and at the time you know I was coughing and stuff and I thought well I don't want to go out first of all we're in lockdown I'm not supposed to be going
out secondly I don't want to if I do have anything I don't want to spread it to other people apart from the lady on the phone and see not in you know in the past that type of conversation would have just really it would have upset me but for some reason it didn't this time you know I was I tried to get what I wanted to happen and it just didn't work because she was all powerful now last night or I think yesterday because I've been going through the trying to tidy up and that I
moved a bag that was to the left because I keep all my bags next to the freezer in the kitchen and what did I see cat food there was a bag with stuff in it that for some reason and I don't know why for some reason it was there unpacked now it's never happened before why did I put a bag up like that on you know in the area when I've never done that before unless the empty bags there wasn't much in there there's like three items you know including the box of cat food now
I've had the refund for that there's like 12 pound or something so what I'm gonna do on I want to get paid next I'm going to phone up the supermarket and tell them what happened and pay pay that money back to them 12 pound so that's that's that what else what did I see I saw I saw something funny but I can't remember what it was I don't know Andre's loving it in the bedroom because he likes it when things are he doesn't like it when his stuff is moved around but he likes it when
I move my stuff around so at the moment he's in the bedroom and he's asleep in a bag but he's been sort of sniffing around the remains of the shed which will be cleared out of here probably tomorrow or later today or tomorrow I'm not really in a hurry I just do it as I feel like feel like it really and then I had that space oh it'd be nice it felt like such a good idea you know it really did nice little space soundproofed I could sit in there make recordings but didn't work it
was even with the soundproofing it would creak the shed creaked not just when I first got it but you know months afterwards it still creaked the was too hot in the summer to the point where I had to basically come and sit there naked to make a recording the sound was nothing like how I expected it to be didn't sound particularly good plus I could hear Andre I clearly I closed the bedroom door after closing the I closed the kitchen door and the living room door put Andre in there first I find that order works
put him in there before I close the door close the bathroom door get into the bedroom and then close that door got into the shed and closed that door I could hear Andre scratching to get out the door I was like okay this ain't working I think part of the reason the shed wasn't big enough it needed not to be double the size probably another half the size added on width wise because it was three by six or something three foot wide or four was it five foot wide anyway it wasn't very wide it wasn't
big enough to really do anything we just sit in there and no real room for the microphone or any equipment which I would use normally yeah plus there's something about being in here in this room that I prefer because I've got my stuff in it I've got my books I've got the laptop well the iPad and the tablet and you know the setup that I've got is all done here don't have to move it around it's all there ready so it feels more comfortable here for me rather than rather than being in the bedroom the
only thing I do in the bedroom is sleep really I'm trying to try and change that not by getting a girlfriend by but by moving the bicycle in there and doing a bit of exercise and it'd be nice to get out of here yeah so I'm pleased with the lack of sound in this room so the soundproofing I've got a lot of soundproofing in here both walls was four four walls has some soundproofing one one wall is completely done nearly and the other side has got probably about a quarter done and then another wall is
pretty much covered I can hear people talking but I'm not being loud am I no I'm not no one should be able to hear me really no shouldn't be able to hear me see yeah other than that there's not really a lot going on really yeah the neighbors or neighbors getting ready probably for work so I can get that sound but I've got the living room door open plus the bedroom door open and the bathroom door is not closed it's a little bit on the jar it's not in a jar but it's you know a
little bit open the kitchen door is a little bit open you know if I close them guaranteed Andre will be there scratching trying to get in even though he doesn't actually want to get in but a door a closed door he's not happy with a closed door really he's got a real issue with it it's almost it's almost like he's a security guard and he's doing his doing his uh regular patrols just to check that all the rooms are okay and no windows are left open there's no one there that shouldn't be there you know
okay so been thinking about this and I've been watching quite a few YouTube videos trying to get some ideas how to progress you know kind of what to do next and thinking thinking of getting back into YouTube again making actual videos again that's what I'm thinking I've learned the basics in iMovie editing videos so I've been playing around with that and you know learned the basics there and so yeah I might be doing that so it will be a case of filming with the phone and the microphone that I've got with that I've got for
it and also I'm going to be looking to get a one of those lights you know the tutorials with the people do for makeup one of the things that they use is a big round light and have the camera in the middle of the light so the light's shining on you and then they do the makeup you know so it's very clear picture very bright so I'm thinking of doing yeah I'm really thinking of maybe doing some of those not makeup tutorials but do the video and record it separately for the podcast so that's what
I'm thinking of doing and if I do if I do do that it'll be the next day or two the only problem is so you want to do a recording audio I can edit out coughing farting splurting I never farted in my life but you know anything like that I can edit it out and I do generally make a video it's different now I can edit things out by I do wonder if it's not if it's going to sound okay or look look okay because you know I don't know I noticed this but when people
make videos it's still doing it where they they do editing they edit to literally the very bone of the video so then they hard some people hardly say a sentence without moving on to another a bit where they kind of edit it out and it doesn't look right to me quite often or they don't sound right and that's something I'm going to be looking at because I don't unless I could I suppose yeah because I can't even because of the editing the length of the recording will be a different length to the audio and the
video the video will be a longer than the audio because you're there would have edited out some stuff so I can't even add the audio onto the video because it would be a different length and it didn't it wouldn't uh you know my lips would be separate from the words a bit like how my brain is would have been this time it would be my lips my lips would be completely separate which doesn't doesn't fill me with juicy jelly excitement really but I was thinking if I did a video for every recording that I make
from now on then I can build up the YouTube audience because people listen to they watch the videos much more than they would listening to a video or a podcast where it's basically just not really any video at all just the audio and although people I do have a an audience that listens so it's a small audience that I have on YouTube so I've got some like 400 subscribers you know it's tiny but then I don't I haven't put any work at all into YouTube at all like literally nothing since I opened up the new
channel a year or two ago now I've got scratching on the door brilliant what's going on YouTube it's not allowing me to oh it is now let's have a look my channel oh I've got more than that 523 subscribers I thought I had 400 so it's still a tiny amount 523 according to this the last let me boil you sleep I got 14 views two days ago but it's it's just a picture of the podcast and no visual at all yeah the only videos that get any proper views are the ones where I'm on video
talking my most popular video is a try and stay awake hypnosis challenge it's an old video from yeah nearly 10 years ago yeah nearly 10 years ago and I've got 5.
2 thousand views but I've had a lot of views of that video over the years with different channels always been my most popular one so I'm hoping if I start making videos again proper videos me talking into the camera perhaps I can increase the subscribers increase the views and then go from there and build it up and then when I get to a thousand subscribers start to monetize have an advert on there but just at the beginning that's it no midway or any of that stuff just some adverts right at the beginning before it starts
and that might help to have a little bit of money coming from there but money halfway to the thousand mark but I imagine if I if every video I make or every podcast recording I make is also a video then I'm probably going to reach the thousand subscribers by the end of the year if not quicker because for one there'll be a lot more videos for people to find and choose from and secondly hopefully I'll be giving people what they want maybe what they expect which is part of the process isn't it so yeah go
from there we'll see what happens see what happens with that but I don't even know what it is what it is about not wanting to or having gone off of videos see when I did videos I think one of the problems was the video was just better than the audio the video quality sound was equal if not better than the recording setups I had so quite often for the podcasts I was actually able to record something on video and then extract the audio or convert the video to an audio and then post that onto the
podcasts like this is going back in you know quite a few years ago but now it'd be nice to maybe do that I'm just thinking about it yeah we'll see but we'll see soon because I'm probably going to do it tomorrow or the day after so the whisper recordings the relaxation for stress recordings sleep hypnosis weekly recordings and the let me boy to sleep recordings all on camera oh I don't know I don't know about that I don't know if I want to I think I may be a bit camera shy never used to be
I don't know I'm not sure but if I make the decision then I'll do it and I'll I know that it takes a while for stuff like that to grow just like the podcast to do you know unless you're famous if you start a podcast you're not going to get many streams to start with it takes time with the YouTube channel the last one I had or the one I had in I got rid of it in 2013 I think at that point I was getting 45 000 downloads a month which in today's terms is
a tiny tiny amount of people you know it's like more than that a week on the podcasts but the growth the you know see yeah the growth that's kind of where my thinking goes as well the more videos that I make the more subscribers I'm going to get and I don't know I quite like the idea of oh I'm going to get myself comfortable I like the idea of perhaps getting back to my enthusiasm about making videos possibly you know in a sense of well why not why not just give it a go make new
recordings daily until the end of the year and then just see see where it goes see my feet feel a bit tingly have a drink of coke that should help um yeah we'll see we'll see we'll see we'll see I just uh because when I was doing the pod the YouTube channel last you know 10 10 years ago whatever it was seven eight years ago I was so pleased with the progress now I was the the subscriber rate was growing every day I think I had about 3 000 subscribers which I know isn't a lot
but you know at the time it was really growing and I'd reached a half a million point of video views now I know if I'd have kept that up kept the channel going wow you know I could I might have like 50 million views by now which isn't even that much over you think over sort of a seven-year period 50 million it's it's less than a million a year only 20 000 a week did you know that 20 000 views a week is in million views a year 20 000 a week it's hardly anything is
it yeah 20 000 that's why what do I get 20 000 I do that in two days sometimes on a podcast but at the very sort of low end it doesn't normally go below 5 000 if I make a recording so every four days 20 000 20 000 5 000 boy there's a bit of banging down now what's going on oh bloody banging stop banging stop it um yeah I don't know the problem with uh making videos I always found is you need first of all you need to try and look fairly smart which is
uh it's not that easy for me I wasn't born I wasn't born to be part of fashion I don't really have the the mindset for it but it's not just that well actually I'll tell you what I used to do again I'm going back to 2011 but I used to do this before that as well but as an example I used to go to this little heart thing which is behind the buddhist centre and I was allowed to use it when I wanted when there's no one else there so I had a key and everything
and I went there used to go there in the night time especially like weekends because I was working during the day so I wouldn't do it week weekdays so I might go there like a Saturday night and spend a few hours there so if I was going to make a few recordings I would take with myself different tops so I'd do one seriously I'd do one recording with a blue jumper second recording with maybe a red jumper then third recording with a shirt fourth recording with maybe a t-shirt and um yeah I think occasionally I'd
dress up like Aladdin or Smurf but you know it's it was about giving the illusion that I was you know out there making a recording every day instead of making a few and then releasing them throughout the week so that's what I'm gonna have to do here as well with different tops and which is going to be a bit annoying a bit annoying yeah yeah yeah I can't a neighbor couldn't be able to hear me and I don't think it shouldn't be an echo room anyway because of the soundproofing but you never know it's weird
at night things seem to be a bit louder which I always find a bit strange and also also do you ever notice you know when you're really trying to be quiet like you're really really trying to be quiet like honestly genuinely out of kindness and consideration for your neighbor or maybe someone that's living with you or uh you know just some someone that you know that's sleeping within the vicinity of your living quarters and it's in the middle of the night you know they're asleep and you don't want to wake them up but everything everything
you do causes loud noises it's like when you're trying to sneak in I mean I don't need to sneak in anywhere but I suppose yeah when I was a DJ I used to come home at three four five in the morning sometimes and I would sneak around because I didn't want to wake anyone up generally I was trying to be quiet and so I'd come in the front door guaranteed the key would rattle and the wind would blow the door and slam or something like that and I'd end up standing on a cat because a
cat she's so I'd be walking around in darkness because I didn't want the if I put the light on that make it click the light shining underneath the door whatever of the bedroom might wake them up so I was kind of trying to sneak around and there was about 60 cats in that house and I'd go to sleep on the stairs which I never really got my head around I've always thought that was one of the most pathetic things you could do sleeping on the stairs for all sorts of reasons you know health and safety
for the person walking up and down the stairs but also self-preservation for the cat because you don't you're only little only little when they you don't want a full weight of a human standing or falling on you but hey it's I think that household it was the cats thought they were in charge because they outnumbered the people living there because it was only about 42 people living there in the three-bedroom house but the cats 713 I was like wow what a lie so you know everything I'd do I'll tell you what was funny though is
I used to sneak around really quietly I thought I'd done really well then I go to the kitchen I'd turn a kettle on which is going to wake up the whole neighborhood because kettles are loud aren't they like I don't know why but I think Dyson if he hasn't done so already Dyson needs to invent a kettle that's quiet that seems to be almost the specialist the speciality but he needs to make kettles that boil really silently but not have to cost loads of money I don't know if I mentioned this I got a filling
on my right tooth and my filling came out so that's been a bit weird I ran out of painkillers but for some reason I went off for a walk yesterday and today and both times although my back felt a bit stiff didn't hurt and that's first time in ages that I could that I wasn't um that you know it didn't hurt when I walked so that was quite a good thing plus it was really cold outside maybe that's why maybe my back was too cold yeah I can't think of anything else really that's going on
it's just basically what I'm trying to do trying to get the website up to date and it is getting there it is I'm nearing the end of a particular part of the website which means the four main podcasts are nearly functioned in the aspect of the recordings or uploaded and organized into groups so that you can stream or play each episode as well as being able to download them onto your phone or tablet and listen to them there so yeah or keep obviously keep them as well if you want so that's good trying to think
of anything else yeah so watch this space I may be up and running doing the old videos again and like everything really you need to be dedicated to it if I'm going to do it then I need to do it properly do it like I do the podcast you know and I had the odd day off here and there for whatever reason but it's not many you know I'm fairly fairly regular it's all that muesli I eat so on that note I'm going to go remember to be kind to yourself because you deserve to be
happy lots of love bye
