#547 Let me bore you to sleep

Hello and welcome to jasonnewland.com And Andre the Ferret With his itchy scratchiness Andre, you wanna come in? Should I grab him? I was talking to my friend earlier about Andre Because he's been shivering a lot And he said it's probably the reason for it Because he's had lots of ferrets over the years, since he was a kid In fact his last ferret was Andre's uncle Wasn't he?

And the possibility for him shivering is because he sleeps about 22 hours a day at the moment He's shaking now And it's like an almost kind of hibernation time So he's getting really hot in the bag or wherever he's sleeping And his heart rate goes down and all that stuff But he also has to keep getting up to go for a wee or a poo Or get something to eat, you know, stuff like that So he's not in complete hibernation obviously Like a tortoise or a big smelly bear A big smelly bear, you're like a little smelly bear aren't you?

So that could be what it is, I hope that's what it is Yes A couple of minutes ago This is Let Me Boy To Sleep, only listen when you can safely close your eyes I've just done a recording for the Stress and Pain Relief podcast And he was in the bedroom enjoying himself with his girlfriend Having a good time I think it was a drive-in movie or something And I thought, well I don't need to close the door, I'll just make the recording Little kisses And he's, you know, he's occupied out there Well I was

about 10 minutes in and suddenly I hear him, he's finished I didn't hear him finish, I'm not saying that he's allowed His, okay get down there His little adventure came to a climax, it came to an end I just heard him go No he didn't, he doesn't, we showed him more like And he came and he was making this noise Running around and I thought So what I did is I pressed pause on the recording Took him into the bedroom, put him on the bed And just said, just stay there, let him be 10 minutes

I might not have said that, you're not to know it I might have said, watch out, there's a fire engine on the roof Cover yourself in grease and I'll be back and we'll have fun in the pantry I could have said that, you don't know what, you know, it doesn't really matter Anyway, I closed the bedroom door, came in here and finished the recording I went back, opened the door It's only like 10 minutes, I opened the door And he was staring at me, he was on the bed just staring at me And I thought,

oh, maybe he's probably sleeping with his eyes open or something So I pulled the door back, I've got these little latches to keep the door open Otherwise he can get himself caught in them, like his tail can get stuck in the door When it closes on its own It happened once and I made sure it doesn't ever happen again As I turned my back and bang, the biggest thump on the floor And he must have, instead of just sliding onto the floor like he normally does from the bed He must have jumped up in the

air So he could land as loudly as possible on the floor I'm waking up that neighbour downstairs You've seen the size of Andre, he's tiny, the amount of noise he can produce is phenomenal And then he runs out, he decides it's time to play So he bites my feet, I've got shoes on but he's biting me And he runs away because he wants me to chase him In the process, he's knocking stuff over in the hallway Because I'm in the middle of moving stuff around So one of the tripods, which is a camera tripod, fell

on the floor A fair bit of noise there And I was like, shut up, it's 1 o'clock in the morning or 12 o'clock or whatever time it was And then he's walking backwards, banging into things Including the kitchen door that was closed Because he wanted me to chase him Now, if it was during the day, then I probably would chase him But because it's at night and I know that at least one of my neighbours is getting up very early in the morning Probably to go to work, I don't know who it is but I

hear them So someone's getting up early and going to work So at night, when I watch telly, I have my headphones on Or if it's normal telly, I have mine down very low If it's the internet telly, you know, Netflix or something Or Amazon at the moment, I'm watching Fear the Walking Dead That's what I'm into I put my headphones on so I can listen to it, so I don't disturb anyone And I quite like having it up quite loud, if I'm honest Because it's a very atmospheric show If it was the news, I wouldn't

But I'm trying to watch less of the news I don't know why that's funny but Every day, I go onto the news about 5 o'clock And it's really just to see the stats, just to see the basic updates And then that's it, then I turn it off I don't sit through hours of it like I used to Although today, for some reason, my energy flopped It just flopped out like an unwanted exhibitionist I don't know, it just dropped And I just lay down, and I tell you what, it's weird I am a victim of my

own success I'm really, really struggling lately To make sleep recordings without falling asleep myself Genuinely I'm sending myself to sleep I've done it three times this week already And It's not what I want to happen I mean, it's good in some ways, but it's so boring to me That I'm falling asleep You know, I had a I think I had a 40 minutes I had 40 minutes of a deep sleep whisper recording And I'd had less than 10 minutes that I could use Because the rest of it was me snoring Very strange, it's like, what's

going on?

So, I'm trying to find times when I can do it when I'm not tired So if I do stuff early in the morning After I've been in bed, I'm just too tired If I do things late at night when I'm wanting to go to bed I'm too tired But then in the middle of the day, there's a lot more noise going on There's people around So it's just trying to find the right time To do stuff is weird I genuinely fell asleep three times this week making recordings Bearing in mind it's only Thursday, so that's in four days Three times I'm just, what on earth is going on?

How amazing The technology is that we have But if you use it The internet for Streaming movies Or streaming I guess if you play video games Or Listening to podcasts Watching YouTube videos Creating things Exploring Learning Even things like Alexa I say quietly Alexa And Being able to turn lights down Lights on and off With your voice That's amazing technology For people that Maybe Have physical disabilities Or are just really lazy And can't be bothered to get up And turn the light switch off I fit into the latter category And I did actually By myself

About a year ago With a smart light bulb And I thought it connected to the Alexa But you don't Have to have a separate Hive hub In order for it to work And what it does It's got lots of different colours in it So I can turn this whole room blue Or red or green But the hub's like 90 pound Or something And I thought I'd rather just close my eyes And pretend that the room's orange Than spend 90 pound On something that makes the room Come orange You know Even I'm not that lazy That

I can't get up And just turn the light switch Off and on But it's amazing technology For people I mean all these Audiobooks It's amazing Imagine the amount of people That can't see One enough to read Now they can listen to Like so many books That are new coming out I've also got the audio version Never had that When I was young There were audiobooks There's been audiobooks For a long time But not in The way they are now You know My nan Back in How long has she been gone?

Six years So my nan's been gone six years And Pretty much And back then We didn't have audible Or those kinds of things She would get It was the blind society Would deliver her A tape To listen to the news Like the local news Read out Like the newspaper And she also had Books that she could Listen to as well Because her eyesight Was pretty much Non-existent At that time But now There's a lot more options So Especially with the smart House making things To set her up So she could say Alexa Play The bible

Or whatever it is She wanted to read I don't know I'm not sure What kind of thing She's a very religious person I really don't know What kind of thing she'd be into Sort of reading wise Just goes to show isn't it I sometimes wish I was more interested In other people Maybe asked A bit more about them I'm more interested in how they are as a person Compared to Their life and their history And What they'd like to do I just find Yeah I don't know if I'm explaining that very well Probably not So
