#529 Let me bore you to sleep

Oi tink. Just made, I don't know if you can notice or not. But I'm recording this stereo.

I'm actually using two microphones to record this recording that I'm recording. Yeah. I just tested it out with I just made a relaxation session, which was pretty cool.

Actually, it's quite a nice good recording. So check it out. It's reduced stress and pain.

I've uploaded it and shared it on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. But I'm testing this out. The reason being is this way I can actually record on a lower level because I'm recording with two different microphones.

I don't know what the correct term is. But two different recordings are being made at the same time. One with the left mic one with the right mic.

This is the I think this is the left mic. This is the right mic. So I'm sitting in the middle of them.

And the process that I've just done with the editing, so I finished the recording, it was about 25 minutes long, the other one. And I did the standard process. I upload it.

Once I've recorded I upload it to my Facebook page. Yeah, I think it's not just the iPad, it uploads to the cloud as well. And then I go to the iPad and I delete from the mic the delete from the headphones is brushing against my left nipple.

It was I can't say it was unpleasant. It's just distracting. So I've moved it.

Anyway, I upload it then I go to move to the desk to the table. And then I do the editing. The first thing I do is I name the episode with the words unedited next to it.

So I know that that's what it is. Then I upload that to the software again, the editing software, go through it and it's quite low volume to start with. So I straight away add it to 16 plus megahertz or whatever is mega horse and and it increases the volume, but nowhere near what it needs to be.

But it's loud enough to edit. So I edit it, which doesn't always take a long time, depending on how many of this I do. You know how much fidgeting and my head.

I went to take my glasses off the other day and I didn't have any on. Very strange. And then I copy the entire track.

Because the two tracks that's what I was looking at words I was looking for two tracks. So two tracks have been recorded now. And then it's converted and saved into one track.

And then after that, I double you know, I copy it and paste it. So it's doubled and see what level is on the on the volume. It should be basically minus 16 is the thing and at the moment it's minus probably about minus 40.

At the moment, as I'm recording it. So what I do is I then I copied it while pasted it again, and doubled it. So it got to the D level, where it was roughly about minus 16, which is what Apple podcast generally require.

So that the stuff isn't too loud, isn't like low. The problem is when I record blah, blah, blah. The louder the background sound is.

And there's always going to be probably a little bit of background humming or something, you know, it's never going to be completely silent, although it's a heck of a lot better than it used to be with my older recordings. The lower volume I can record it on, the better quality sound it will be when it's finished. So yeah, it's basically at the moment, it's on a level of where it would be if I was doing a whisper recording.

So I'm not quite sure how to whisper is going to come across. But I tried doing in the shed, it don't work. The shed is going to have to come down.

So I'm going to get rid of that thing. It's just not it's not what I need it to be. I mean, I suppose I could move all of Andre's toys in there and let him have that shed.

I mean, it's his anyway, every everything in this flat is Andre's. You know, any is his shed I didn't realize until a couple of days ago when I was moving everything out and trying to organize the shed, put a microphone in there that he'd been using it as a toilet. Lovely, lovely little ferret.

That's nice. But the good news is the good news. If you if you listen regularly, you know that I organized my living room, and there's a big corner covered in cat litter, which I've separated.

It's just put it this way, if you walked in there, you wouldn't need to be told where it was, you'd see it straight away. But now, he goes on, let's go to the toilet. When I first put it there, he didn't go to the toilet on the carpet.

But now, over the last few days, he's got so used to it. And it's got his smell. You know, so the good thing is, I can take, you know, I can take bits off of it.

And I can put some fresh on there. But as long as some of the old bits still there, it's gonna have his smell. So he's, he seems quite happy with it.

So I'm pretty pleased. What I might do is do the same in the corner on the other side of the room. And he might, you know, get used to doing there as well.

I just need to get some more catty litter. Kitty, kitty, kitty litter. So I'm pleased with that.

Because there's just, you know, for the first few days, but now, I haven't had to really do anything. I've had to clean up after him at all. So yeah, it was a great idea of mine.

I'm not saying that cat litter was not my idea. Because it wasn't. But to use it the way I've done it was my idea.

It was all mine. And I'm really proud of myself. So proud.

And it's, I found him in the kitchen and he was asleep on some bags. So when he got my phone, as I do in those situations, to take a picture of him. And for some reason, I got my phone on the camera and I was pressing the, you know, the take a picture button and nothing was happening.

And then he opened his eyes, looked at me and started moving around. And so I just kept pressing the button eventually did work. And I kept pressing it over and over and over again, as he was moving around, but he wasn't just wiggling around, he was stopping and staring at me and then moving a little bit and staring at me.

And I found a beautiful picture of him with his big tongue sticking out. And great, great picture. So I've put that I'm saving all the pictures, but that one particular one, I edit it as well, because you can, what do they call it, when you box a picture in, you can only sort of see how part of the picture of the whole picture.

I did that. So I never really knew how to do that stuff before. But for some reason, for some reason, I'm starting to learn.

But from the that app that I don't like. I forget what it's called. I tell you what's weird.

I think about in the in a minute. microphones, you could never hold a phone up anywhere near a microphone because it would be doesn't affect the microphone at all. The iPhone.

So here we go. Yeah. Anyway, I took Andre for a walk and took him out.

And it was a nice day outside. So I thought, well, I'll put my hand out the window to see. I opened the window first.

I've been caught out a few times doing it, you know. It's painful. So I opened the window first and put my hand out.

And it seemed quite nice. It wasn't raining. It was sunny.

So I went out. It was a. I don't know what day it is. It's Sunday, isn't it? It's Sunday.

So I went and I had took him out and he was like. So I put him on the floor when I first get out and he sniffed around the rubbish, which is lovely. So I'm saying, come on, stop that now.

This is me wasting my time bringing you outside a place that I don't really want to be, if I'm honest. You're so grumpy. And oh, she.

Anyway, I took him out. He was sniffing at the rubbish and then one of my neighbors was waving. Well, someone was waving to me.

I didn't know it was. You're going to notice one of my neighbors now because I've already told you, but it's someone I haven't seen for a while. And he actually went abroad probably about a month ago and he asked me to look after any mail that was left on his doorstep.

And I said, yeah, sure. So I figured, you know, I'll be able to open it up and if it was any good, I'd, you know, maybe sell it. And he said, I couldn't recognize him because he had a mask on.

And as he got closer, because he's waving to me, and I thought, it's a bit like, you know, when you're in a, if you're in a nightclub or a bar or something, you know, I don't know, when I've been younger, I had a female look at me and wave and I looked beyond me because I figure it's someone else. It was a bit like that, but without the, there was nothing like that really, but you know, it was that kind of situation. Is he waving at me? Because I couldn't recognize him.

He had a hat on and a mask. Couldn't tell who he was. As he got closer, I said, who are you? He said, it's me.

It's, it's me. Can't you tell? I said, no, you got a mask on. He said, oh.

So he took, I think he kept his mask on. He took his hat off. And I pointed out that was probably the wrong part of him, that he needed to expose somebody to see who he was.

So I didn't know him by his head. You know, I hadn't sort of spent my whole time knowing him by hovering around in a helicopter looking out. I recognize him.

How are you doing mate? You all right? Yeah, thanks. What? I said, yeah. I can't hear you over the helicopter.

Yeah, I'm all right. Yeah. You? Yeah, I'm good.

Yeah. Thanks. I mean, I never, I've never even been in a helicopter.

It's not really the point, but it's been, it's been abroad, been abroad and he had to get tested. He got tested twice, in fact, for the coronavirus. And it turned out that he'd had it.

He had it in March, but he didn't know about it. Didn't know. Wasn't ill or anything.

Had lost his taste or smell or something, but he's in his late seventies. He's kind of used to that. It's, you know, that happened to my Nan.

She was in her nineties or eighties or nineties, completely lost sense of smell, taste. Didn't, you know, so I guess it's an aging thing, but he didn't put anything, didn't think of anything of it. So he'd had the coronavirus and my friend as well, who lived in the same building, had the coronavirus.

So six, two out of six flats in this building have had the coronavirus in. How weird is that? And then the girl downstairs, she passed away and she was coughing for a week before that. So I'm, and that was at the end of January.

So I'm thinking maybe she had it as well. You know, there you go. So that was weird.

But he was happy. He was healthy. He's so brilliant.

He's said he's about 76, 77. So I'm really pleased that he's okay. And he was really upset because he said if he'd have known he would have, he would have kept away because at the time that was before the full lockdown happened.

So he was still going out to the supermarket, still doing whatever he did. When the lockdown was actually on, he didn't used to even open the door to me when I'd knock on his door. He'd talk to me through the window.

It's like being backed up by doctor's surgery, talking through the window. I said, you know, you're not a nurse. Are you a doctor? He said, no.

So why are you talking to me through a window for then? He didn't understand. And so he was really good with the old lockdown. He didn't go out at all, but he'd already had it.

So I got rid of him and I talked, I took Andre to, I tried to take him to the park and I kept having to, basically he wouldn't walk. So I put him in my jacket. I thought what he'll do is by the time I get to the grass, he'll want to get down, you know, stick his head out, get all, you know, interested and he'll want to get on the grass and smell all the smells and, you know, do a little digging and just have a bit of fun, you know, like he likes to, roll around and that.

Didn't happen. He went to sleep. So I didn't even get as far as the park.

He was fast asleep, not interested. He was nice and cozy, fast asleep. So I just walked back and even the journey back, it's only a few minutes, but he still didn't get up.

Full of energy. He literally, it's like he'd just been injected with adrenaline, jumping, doing somersaults, wanting me to chase him around. I just took you out for a walk.

You could have done this outside. You could have had some fresh air, had some exercise. I was going to take him wherever he wanted to go.

I wasn't, didn't need to be anywhere else. So if he wanted to walk for an hour, I would have took him out for an hour. Provided my back kind of played along, but he wouldn't, didn't want any part of it.

But as soon as he got back, jumping around as if he, honestly, I had to check the floor to make sure there wasn't an invisible trampoline on there because he was doing somersaults. Absolutely ridiculous. Never been so angry.

So I'm not sure if I've got any other messages or anything. And that's all that happened today. That's all that happened today.

And I think with with Apple, you're pretty safe to go to websites because they don't have they're good when it comes to viruses and stuff like that. But do this on a laptop or you know, you can end up just by going to the page get get engulfed in a laptop or spy view spyware and stuff. I'm pretty sure Apple, the iPhones and iPads are very, that's one of the good things that Apple are good for.

And when I grew up, we used to go to the Wimpy. Now, the Wimpy is an institution. There are less Wimpy's now than there used to be.

But they were around long before McDonald's came to the UK. I'm going to say that now because I don't know how long. Let me check this out.

Let's do some fact checking. Wimpy. The Wimpy.

How long is the history? Wimpy history? History. Yes, it predates McDonald's and Burger King by decades. I thought so.

So the Wimpy brand was established in 1934 by Edward Gold, when he opened his first location in Bloomington, Indiana, under the name Wimpy Grills. Their name was inspired by the character of J. Wellington Wimpy from the Popeye cartoons. So I don't know when it first, okay, in the UK, 1954 is where it all began in the UK.

Our first Wimpy bar opens at the Lions Corner House, London. Did you know Wimpy were the first to serve hamburger based meals in the UK? 1954. Wow.

In 1970, Wimpy Worldwide, Wimpy became a global brand as it opens over 1,000 restaurants in 23 countries. We racked up a lot of air miles that year. It's almost talking like it's the UK started there, but it didn't.

It started in America. Anyway, it becomes local. So over thousands, so it's McDonald's was already around by then, wasn't it? You know, in the 60s, wasn't it? McDonald's started.

1981, our famous special sauce launches. The ingredients are secret. They do not, they're nice sauce, but not a small amount.

I like their sauce. In fact, I want a burger now. But they're, I really, really want a burger now.

But they, for me, I don't like too much of the sauce. I like it's just a nice, yeah. 1986, Wimpy are the first burger chains to offer meat free burgers.

1990s, Wimpy are the first major fast food chain to introduce corn products. Yes, please. It says the picture there.

2004, 50 years Wimpy. Today, Wimpy continues to serve fabulous food and provide great customer service from families to celebrities. And Wimpy is loved for its affordable, great tasting food.

Now, I wonder how many Wimpy's there are now. Ah, look, it's pictures. I'm gonna move myself around a bit.

Really? A major refurbishment program has been completed for two Wimpy restaurants in Colchester and Kings Lynn in Norfolk. The move underlines Frenchie, Reg, Barngill's faith and commitment to the much loved Wimpy brand, especially at such a difficult time for the hospitality industry. The last few months have certainly been challenging, said Raj.

We felt this, I know Raj, he's my Wimpy man. He is, that's my local Wimpy. We felt that this was exactly the right time to take advantage of a quieter period to carry out the refurbishment work.

So we can be ready as dinners return. Diners return? Diners only got one in. Yeah, dinners has got two in, hasn't it? Diners? Return to the high street.

Investing in the new brand is really exciting for us and we can't wait to show it off. Both restaurants have seen the introduction of Wimpy UK's new shift design. What's that mean? Wimpy Colchester situated on the high street has been in Raj's family for the last 16 years. The refurbishment, I'm pretty sure his dad used to have it because his dad used to go in there quite a lot. He used to be in there a lot when I first, when I first moved here in 19, no 19, in 2007.

One of the first things I did was go to the Wimpy. And his dad was really friendly. He used to sort of chat and stuff.

He used to come and collect, you know, take the orders and stuff, but he was clearly, he used to be the boss. The refurbishment sees new counters, kitchens area and lighting, as well as new tables and chair capacity of seating 60 diners inside and 20 outside on the pavement. At Wimpy Kings Lynn, a new conduit street, work included the tripling of the outdoor seating area, which will now have room for about 40 diners and 80 customers indoors.

I wish the Wimpy delivered. I'll tell you something, if Wimpy do deliver, start delivering, and they don't deliver to my area, when I know that, you know, I will actually go in there and say to him, or rather, hi, excuse me. I said, please, I've been at the detriment to my own personal health.

I've been eating your burgers, your delicious burgers for years, even though it's, you know, long term, probably not the best cleverest idea I could ever have. But I've stuck to it, because I am loyal. Yeah, I wonder how the seating is.

I don't know. The thing is, they, maybe it's just because time goes so quickly, but it wasn't doesn't seem very long ago that they had a refurbishment. It can't be more than like four or five years.

Seriously. So remember, it closed for about two weeks. Never been so angry, or hungry.
