Hello and welcome to jasonnewland.com, my name's Jason Newland and this is Let Me Bore You To Sleep. Please only listen when you can safely close your eyes. This is Saturday the 19th of September 2020 and it's 2.35 am in the morning so yeah, hope you're all well.
So yesterday, Friday, for some reason I chirped up a bit, is that the right word, I don't know, not quite sure why but I'm not complaining. And in the process I did some recordings, I did three, well two, but one with music so three recordings, I did a relaxation technique for the relaxation, stress and anxiety podcast and I also did a relaxation and sleep recording as well, so that's quite good, yeah, that's quite good. And as well as that, I also cleaned my carpet.
Now I got a new carpet cleaner about two weeks ago, I think it was, maybe three weeks but a couple of weeks, two or three weeks. And I have cleaned the carpet, I cleaned near the front door and then I cleaned in the bedroom and since then I've cleaned near the front door and the bedroom again, sort of a week later and I needed to do in the living room, which is where I am now, two particular places in the living room, I needed to really have a good old clean but I was putting it off because it was quite a big job, it was quite a lot to do.
Well for some reason yesterday I had the energy to do it and initially I was just going to do the living room but I ended up doing all of it, so I cleaned the carpet in the front door, in the bedroom and the two different places in the living room and I was quite pleased.
So this week I've done a lot of cleaning, including the bathroom and the kitchen floors as well, so they're really, really clean as well, exciting stuff, don't you agree?
Anyway, oh my tummy just made a weird noise, so as well as that, well it just means I haven't spent all day in bed, like most of the week, most of the week pretty much, I've had some periods when I wasn't in bed and I was doing stuff, but I did spend a lot of time in bed and I just feel that I've actually accomplished something, not just in a sense that I've made some recordings, which is great, but also having cleaned the carpet, I took Andre for a walk as well and I'm sure I
did something else, I can't remember what it was, but a few hours ago as I was uploading the newest recordings that I'd made, I had a message from somebody on Facebook saying that my website wasn't working and, you know, there's other people who've also said that it's not working properly and I myself had problems with it, so I have been thinking about it for a few days, so what should I do, what should I do, what should I do, and I decided to get rid of that podcast as a website that I had, so I've
got rid of it, I've reverted back to the original podcast or the original website that I had, you know, two weeks ago, but then it meant doing quite a few, making quite a few changes, which I did, so that took a few hours and it's also going to, well at the moment, I don't have any recordings to listen to, to stream ad-free, so I'll need to build some podcasts up and then put the players onto the website, so that's going to take me a few days, well a couple of days to get that done, but
once it's done, it's done, that'll be good, so there's a few little twinkles and twonkles that I've got to do to get the website up to scratch and up to date, yeah, that's the point, it's a few recordings, it's not up to date yet, I've still got a fair few things, you know, episodes, whatever you want to call them, that need to be uploaded to the website, but not a huge amount, just, I don't know, probably about ten, maybe less, maybe, yeah, once that's done, it's done, isn't it, it's done, done, done, done, so if
you're clicking, if you're on Facebook and you're clicking on a link, that'll take you to my website, just, it will say page not known, but then you'll still be on my website and you'll be able to just click on the home, itchy ear, so I wear these headphones now because I can hear myself and I can hear any kind of loud sounds or any kind of weird noises that may occur, and that's it really, so it's, you know, Saturday morning, I'll go to bed after I've recorded this and then over the weekend I will do
things that need to be done to get the website up and running, well, to get it updated to how I want it to be, and then that's it.
Hopefully in the process I'll be able to make a few recordings over the weekend as well.
So it's all going to plan, the only thing that hasn't gone to plan is I hadn't budgeted for paying for this website, so it's $29 I need to get hold of by the 20th, so what's the date today, the 19th, so I need to get $29 to pay for this website, otherwise I'll have to shut it down for a few days, so I don't know, we'll see, but yeah, why don't you 20th, it's a Sunday so they probably won't try and take it to the Monday, I'm thinking, and then I've got the podcast to pay
for as well on Monday, it's quite weird that they're both, or is it Tuesday, no I think it's Monday, yeah 21st, so that's $72 I think, so it's the way it is, it's just, it's the way it is man, yeah, it's the way it is, don't you know, okay I'll stop singing I'll stop, I'll stop, I'll stop now, don't be cruel to me, I also made me bed, I didn't make, why do we say make, I didn't actually make it you know, it was made when I purchased the thing, but I put the bedding into
an order, a certain order, so that I can actually sleep, just looking at my phone, trying to think, I'm sure I had a message from someone so yeah my website's back, so you can leave messages if you want, you can leave a review if you like that'd be cool, and yeah, so it's, I'm feeling a bit tired, but I feel almost tired for a reason if that makes sense like you know, I've actually accomplished some stuff, and it's nice, feels quite nice I don't have to think about cleaning the carpet for another week the, you
know, I'll give the bathroom and the kitchen an all clean, probably midweek as well, I do that once a week just to keep it nice and yeah, I am aware of how boring this is, it's very boring, it's supposed to be boring it is a bit weird because I've gone into the kitchen a few times after I mopped it, and I'm talking, it was proper, there was a layer on it, which I didn't realize it was a layer, I thought it was just the, you know, the tiles, but it wasn't, it was actually, yeah, anyway,
it's clean, I've gone in there a few times, like wow, it's really come up nice and I'm a little bit like that with the carpet, especially in the bedroom or in the hallway, because more noticeable, and the hallway all clear, and I like it, I mean the living room's a bit messy, but that's because this is Andre's playground so my playground, I guess, is the desk or the table, any flat surface, that's pretty much full of stuff, and the squeaky black dirty falling apart chair, but everything on the floor is Andre's and he's, you know,
he enjoys himself in there, I mean he was playing in the shed earlier so he likes to explore and to do things, not necessarily with me, he likes to do his own thing but he has come alive a little bit lately, where he'll look at me and then run away into the kitchen, which means he wants me to chase him and then he hides behind the cooker because he knows I can't get to him when he's behind the cooker now when he was little, like proper little, he was a little bugger because he would refuse
to come out because in those days he used to go to bed in his cage every night, I put him in his cage and he didn't want to and he'd hide from me, sometimes he'd hide underneath the wardrobe, so I'd actually have to tip the wardrobe on its side in order to get to him, because there was a gap underneath the wardrobe, I'd have to pull the cooker out in order to get to him but now I don't put him into the cage at night, he's really got used to it and he behaves himself most
of the time and he just seems to just do his own thing and he climbs up on me when I'm asleep and sometimes he'll cuddle, he'll lick my face and might want me to wake up just so I'm awake, I don't know why, he just wants my attention or maybe he wants to eat, you know, be different, various different things, he's always got dry food that he can eat but he does prefer the wet food, the gravy cat food I think he's, I think he's pretty happy, you know, he's, I don't know, it's hard to
tell but what I've noticed the last, like today for example, and the same happened a couple of days ago when I took him out, I think it might be last night because I went about four days where I didn't take him out, he didn't even ask to go out and we walked into the park and he led the way and then he wanted to come back, then he led the way back home and he did the same today as well, so he was out, had a little roll around in the grass but I think he
wanted his dinner which is why he wanted to come home because I like to give him his dinner when he's been out after he's been out because then he's sort of, I don't know why, there's not really any logic to it I guess, it's just it seems like a good time to give him his food rather than taking him out directly after he's eaten, not that I think it really makes that much difference, although realistically he'd probably have a lot more energy if I took him out after he'd eaten, yeah I didn't really think about
it, but it's at that stage now in the evenings where it's not dark by six o'clock yet, it's still light outside, it's not light light but it's still, I think it was I don't know what time it was, about seven, half six, seven, we was outside and it was it was getting dark-ish but the sky was still blue, now in a month's time I know that it's going to be dark at five o'clock you know it's just the way it goes, it gets dark very quickly, yeah once you hit kind of October and I'm not
that bothered about it really, but I would prefer to take Ondrej out when it's light simply because I can see where he is and I like to walk on the grass with him and I don't really like to do that in the dark because I don't know what I'm treading on or in, so I prefer to have the daylight and I don't need it to be bright and sunny but just you know light and I've got my balaclava already for when the winter comes which is what I bought in probably March maybe April, no March
I think but it was too hot to wear it so I was going outside and I thought you know oh I'm going to keep myself covered up keep my face covered but I was sweating, it was like so hot however once the, I didn't have it on my head I don't mean I didn't have it on my feet either, I mean I had it covering the bottom half of my face that's what I mean, I wasn't wearing it like pants, so it was covering my mouth and my nose but it is a balaclava so I
can wear it over my head as well so that's something that I might do once the weather gets a bit you know a little bit chilly mind you I might look a bit weird I don't know, what do you reckon?
yeah how did I, I was trying to think how did it go over my head to start with, is it balaclava?
I think, I think it is yeah I think, I think, I think, I think it's a balaclava oh I was watching a movie last night or yesterday, Thursday night called Hard Times with Charles Bronson, such a such a great movie, I don't know if you've seen it it's a really really good movie, it's um basically Charles Bronson is a street fighter and a man of few words as he is or as he was in pretty much all his movies but he had a real real presence, I don't mean you know he was a poltergeist, I
mean he just had a stage or screen presence, I suppose it's like saying you knew he was there but then of course you knew he was there because he was a star of the film, I do wonder where do people's money go, so the reason I'm asking this is I was doing it, I like to do a little research every now and then to see how much people have got and not necessarily famous people as in TV stars or whatever but sometimes sports stars I'm quite interested and for example Michael Spinks, so Michael Spinks was
you know he was a light heavyweight world champion boxer and then he went up in weight and he beat Larry Holmes to win the world heavyweight championship and then he had a rematch and won that one as well now I'm just confused because apparently he's got like 700 dollars, 700,000 pounds or 700,000 dollars, that's what he's worth and that doesn't make sense to me because he only had one loss and that was to Mike Tyson so he was unbeaten, you know he won the light heavyweight championship he won the heavyweight championship and then he retired
unbeaten and I just, I just get confused because in 1981 let's have a look it is, when did he win the world title and okay so professional boxing record he won the world title, okay I didn't realize this so wow in his 17th fight Michael Spinks who is the brother of Leon Spinks who beat Muhammad Ali, so Michael Spinks won the WBA light heavyweight title in 1981 in his 17th fight, I'm pretty sure he was a gold medalist pretty sure yeah he did as an amateur he won gold medal in the middleweight division at the
76 summer olympics so he was a bit of a superstar you know in sport in America if you win the olympic gold in boxing you got money you know you got money chucked at you all right so let's go back to where we was okay so in his 17th fight he won the WBA light heavyweight, he retained it, retained it again, he retained it again, he retained it again he retained it again and then he he fought Dwight Muhammad Crowley in 1983 and won the WBC and the ring light heavyweight title defended that and then
in 84 he also added the IBF light heavyweight title so he was the unified light heavyweight champion, had all the belts, the WBO wasn't invented at that point and he defended it and he defended it and he defended and so he won his first world title at 17 at the 17th fight and he last defended that's in a completely different order to how I remember it and he defended his yeah his 27th fight he retained the light heavyweight championships for the last time and then he fought for the heavyweight title in 1985 won it and
then he had a rematch in 86 and he won that one again see he won the IBF heavyweight title see I don't remember this I don't remember that he actually defended it but he did apparently it says here that he defended the world title twice once against Stephan Tankstead in September 86 in June 87 against Jerry Cooney now I remember that fight and then he retired and then he came back and challenged Mike Tyson for the unified heavyweight title in June 1988 so basically he was like the people's champion because he was undefeated former heavyweight
champion of the world a fight in Mike Tyson who was also undefeated but actually had the title and Mike Tyson knocked Michael Spinks out in the first round it's quite see this doesn't make sense to me because according to this he was only out of the ring for a year that doesn't sound real to me it doesn't sound right ah got you got it so after winning against Holmes he retained the world heavyweight championship once again by a knockout in four against Stephan Tankstead in 87 he was stripped of the crown by the IBF for
refusing to fight their mandatory challenger Tony Tucker and accepting a higher offer to fight Jerry Cooney instead Spinks knocked out Cooney in five rounds and after Mike Tyson had unified the heavyweight belts fans started clamoring for a fight between them as many still recognize Spinks as the legitimate lineal champion now Spinks got paid a lot of money to fight Tyson millions he would have got paid millions to fight Cooney and he probably got paid millions to fight Larry Holmes and also as he was the world light heavyweight championship champion for how many years 81 to
85 so five years he was the light heavyweight champion how can he only have 700 000 pounds i've already got anything to do with me but it's just it it wet it wets my lips thinking it's not what's going on my car spinks net says here 100 000 how did Mike lose his money you know it's iron mike that's the wrong one 100 000 doesn't make sense how much is Michael Spinks worth this is according to this celebrity net worth Michael Spinks net worth is his American retired boxer hundred thousand dollars he won multiple amateur
boxing titles won the golden gloves the gold at the montreal olympics doesn't even make sense doesn't make sense i mean it's these boxers that have never even won a world title they've got more money than him yeah every website's saying hundred hundred thousand there's got to be a reason i reckon he must have just had lots of marriages because either that was a gambler or something happened oh wow it says here June 1988 earnings 1988 13 million 13 million wow i don't understand i'm confused i know it's got nothing to do with me but why
i don't understand how can you earn that much money and what happened to him retirement and later years let's have a look see what happened to him because maybe Marvin Johnson so let's see what happened to him it says here listen to this retirement and later years Spinks is the rare top fighter who left the sport with both money and his health and never returned to the ring aside from a rare event honoring him and occasionally attending fights fights Spinks has largely remained off the boxing scheme and out of the public a Ken Hissner reported
that in October 2007 he was introduced into the ring at the legendary Blue Horizon in Philadelphia he seemed quite at home in the ring waving and talking to fans the former champion lives privately in a seven bedroomed house not including the guest house on a five acre spread outside Wilmington Delaware however he has been known for visiting schools carrying his gold medal and four title belts where he tells kids to pursue their dreams he says most of the kids don't have a clue who i am he says but they listen when they see all the
gold for years he remained close to his former promoter Butch Lewis training fighters and making rare public appearances at events promoted by Lewis in 2011 however after Lewis died from natural causes it was reported that Spinks had sued Lewis's estate in Delaware Chancery Court alleging that the promoter had failed to properly manage more than 24 million dollars Spinks had earned in the ring and had violated their agreement that Lewis would continue to manage Spinks's money and pay his living expenses for the rest of the boxer's life the lawsuit alleged that he commingled his personal funds
with Spinks's and used Spinks's money to pay his and his children's own personal and business expenses also named as a defendant with Robert R Johnson founder of Black Entertainment Television head of the real estate firm for RLJ Development LLC in Bethesda Maryland that's a that's a big long sentence and one of the executors of Lewis's 8.
5 million estate according to Spinks's lawyers following Lewis's death Johnson and Atwani Leonard Williams stopped the payments without telling him which in turn caused Spinks health insurance to lapse and bills totaling up to fifty thousand dollars a month to go unpaid fifty thousand dollars a month Spinks had to invade his pension and retirement funds and incur significant taxes and penalties in order to meet these obligations the boxer's lawyers added in their fillings Spinks asked that the court bar Johnson and Williams from transferring any further assets from Lewis's estate until there can be a full accounting
and payments to Spinks are resumed it doesn't say anymore so that kind of explains that explains the so i so basically ripped off by his manager my stomach's making some weird noises really weird weird weird weird strange strange i'm just begging the microphone again keep doing that keep doing it i don't know why at least i'm not moaning which is good um i remember isn't it weird see my memory this is my memory the chronological order of Michael Spinks fighting um is he fought against Jerry Cooney this is my this is my logic this is
my thinking he fought he was the light heavyweight champion he fought Jerry Cooney in his first heavyweight fight because he wanted in fact uh i think most of the people thought that Jerry Cooney was going to knock him out and it didn't he knocked Jerry Cooney out and Jerry Cooney was huge compared to Michael Spinks so i thought that that's what happened is he fought Jerry Cooney in his first heavyweight bout to see whether or not he could you know make the weight or you know pull it off and then he fought Larry Holmes won
the title he wasn't expected to win but he did he won it that was a big upset at the time and i wasn't that upset but i think i was 15 14 15 something like that and then when they fought again i thought that Larry Holmes was going to pull it out of the bag i thought he was going to sort of win a title back but he didn't there's a little bit of controversy some people at the time was saying nah Larry Holmes he won it he won it and other people were saying no
he never won it no Michael Spinks won that one although Michael Spinks did get the win officially and that's what i thought i thought he fought Jerry Cooney and then he fought Larry Holmes twice and then he retired and he came back to fight Mike Tyson in 1988 or whatever 87 whatever whatever year it was but i had it wrong so he won the title and he defended it once and instead of defending it against Tony Tucker who did go on to win a world title twice actually he here's here's a bit this is something
that people might not know you might not know this so instead of fighting Tony Tucker Spinks decided to fight Jerry Cooney because it was a bigger bigger paid fight bigger money which is how he managed to walk away with 16 million which back in 1989 and it wasn't super money compared to some people you think Sugar Ray Leonard he probably earned more than that just in one fight when he fought Hagler i bet he he must have earned over 10 million for that fight and i don't know why i always seem to sort of connect
the two i do know why here's here's why i know why they both were known for speed they're both you know Michael Spinks Sugar Ray Leonard they're known for they both went up in weight and they both fought someone that no one thought they'd win so Michael Spinks fought Larry Holmes undefeated heavyweight champion for a long time i don't mean they were fighting for a long time but you know he'd been a champion for a long time and i don't think any boxing fan thought that Michael Spinks had a chance and when Sugar Ray Leonard
fought Marvin Hagler i don't think many people thought that Leonard would be able to win that either so they both pulled off huge upsets and i suppose it's the speed they're both like very quick and they took that speed with them when they went up in weight yeah anyway Tony Tucker who Michael Spinks didn't want to fight because he wanted the big money Tony Tucker actually fought Buster Douglas and knocked Buster Douglas out and then he defended his world title against Mike Tyson and Mike Tyson won on points and then a couple of years later
Buster Douglas knocked Mike Tyson out Who'd have thought?
Who'd have thought there's something in the way you put your shoes on even though you're standing on your head so i used to like boxing but i didn't fall in love with boxing until i was about 14 or 15 i actually i would say i was 15 but i might have been 14 yeah i might have been 14 i got super excited because there was the build-up towards Hagler-Herns and it was Hagler defended his title Herns had a fight i think on the same night here's weird i can check this out i wonder if it's
true i wonder if it's true it might not have been but i have a memory or i have a memory of it being true it might not be okay so let's have a look let's go for Hagler Hagler Hagler so go to his fights professional boxing Hagler-Herns so Hagler-Herns was April the 15th 1985 so i was 14 really wow i was 14 which means yeah so the fight beforehand was against Mustapha Hamshaw Mustapha Hamshaw October the 19th okay now i'm pretty sure Thomas Hearns fought the same night so let's have a look Thomas Hearns so
he fought oh come on no he definitely fought Marvin Hagler the same night as Marvin Hagler fought him but his fight before that was September the 15th September the 5th 14th and October okay so it was within a pretty much a month of each other and i didn't get to see those fights live it was more i think they showed it in a i don't know sort of the best of clips scenario so i think that tv show had both Hagler and Hearns both fighting different people and the aim was that they would so Hearns
Hearns would change wba wbc ibf and ring middleweight titles wow the thing about Hagler that people forget is his class is the best middleweight of all time okay but what they don't realize a lot of people don't is that he actually lost twice before he won the world title so he lost in his 27th fight by mixed decision he lost in his 29th fight by William Monroe and he got his revenge on that one he didn't actually and this is what i don't understand okay he didn't win his world title he actually fought for a
world title and it was a draw in his 50th fight seriously 50th fight ridiculous and it was a draw so he didn't win and he had a one two three more fights before he got a chance to fight for the world title and he won and that was against Alan Minter in 1980 so this is his 54th professional fight before he won the world title 50 most boxers don't have that many fights in their career so he had 1980 and then he defends his title seven years he holds the title and he ends up having
67 fights see one two three four five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve he successfully defends his title 12 times and then he loses to Sugar Ray Leonard on the 6th of April 1987 wow blimey see all this knowledge at my fingertips and none of it is of any interest to anyone but me it's wonderful now i'm interested because sometimes my memory alone isn't actually correct and it's good to have it's good to have i don't know to have it corrected to actually realize that okay this happened first then that happened rather than me
thinking the wrong thing and in reality none of it's it's not really that important it's just one of those things that i i like to sort of replenish my memory especially when it comes to things like that i don't know so yeah so that's that's the end of this so this should be especially boring for a lot of people that i've got no interest in boxing so me and my grumbling tummy are gonna go to bed i think so thank you for listening remember to be kind to yourself because you deserve to be happy lots
of love bye bye
