#463 Let Me Bore You To Sleep - Jason Newland (31st July 2020)

Hello and welcome to jasonnewland.com. My name is Jason Newland and this is Let Me Bore You To Sleep. Please only listen when you can safely close your eyes. Now I'm recording this at 5.20 in the morning on Friday 31st of July 2020.

And I've just got out of bed so I've not been up all night. I'm not doing that so much at the moment but yeah I think my sleeping habits have changed a little bit lately and I'm fortunate I can change them as they you know I just I can sleep whenever I want to which is you know it's something that a lot of people don't have the option of. I'm not bragging by the way I'm just saying just the fact.

I'm not like I can sleep whenever I want to and you know not being like that. I just give you you know I talk about superstition sometimes and rituals and just the whole idea is how something that's not connected to you happens and then you think oh that happened because of what this I have to be doing this at that time.

Therefore you know that's like how superstition and even I mean stuff that can ruin people's lives can be that simple you know that kind of it's a child like a very tiny child has that mentality that that kind of oh uh I remember what happened to me I remember I what was it yeah it is something I came home on a Wednesday afternoon from school I came home but for some reason I took a different route home I went a different route or different route um for some reason not the normal way because there was

there was a few different ways I could get home you know I didn't live far from town when I was at high school and I got home and there was my dad there was my two brother my three brothers upstairs in our like playroom thing and there was a snooker table I was like wow you know just like out of the blue didn't know that was coming and or maybe it was a table tennis table or something like that maybe it was already a snooker table but anyway it was something new something that I think

it was a snooker table I'm just thinking that's something you get for Christmas isn't it but you know the memory the memory cannot be trusted that's why it doesn't matter because it's not important but uh for important stuff I would double check this so I got home and there is my dad happy which wasn't something I saw that often and it just actually worked too hard I think to support all of us and you know but anyway this isn't a miserable story this is a nice story but also pointing out the how easy it is

to connect things that aren't connected so I get home and our brothers are all getting on no arguing which is rare I was getting on with them they were getting on with me but dad was happy everyone was you know no shouting no telling off or because of this snooker table which also had pool balls as well so we could play pool and snooker and it wasn't like a full-size snooker table because it would have we would have all been standing on top of it because there wouldn't have been enough room crouching down on the

ceiling well I'd be able to stand up straight but they still would so I'm only four foot two and so I I connected me myself walking home a different route different journey direction to that beautiful afternoon I mean it was beautiful it was and it wasn't for me you know at the time I probably for me it was all about how I felt which I think is probably the same for everyone you know it's just about how you feel isn't it and the the snooker table wasn't like a major thing as far as I had

two older brothers that were just going to be too competitive anyway so they were more wanting to play each other and I didn't I don't probably never won a game against them but it was just something to do with the I don't know it was just really cool and then every Wednesday afternoon because I'd finished school I was about half free in the afternoon every Wednesday after that I thought I started to feel good I started to feel anticipate something and again it wasn't about the things it might have been it might just been some

proper greedy little bugger but it was the peacefulness the niceness it was almost there was a little bit of Christmas there a little bit of Christmas spirit a bit of yeah it was sort of where where is everyone make sure everyone's here to to join in with this it was nice and so I remember there was nothing happened the following week or the following week and then I think it was the same it's a Wednesday my dad okay I mean a new computer like it I don't know some spectrum rt2t nanu nanu computer thing and

just to remind you we're talking in probably 1982 maybe 83 82 83 and it's like wow you know again I got no interest in computers well I didn't back then when I ended up building websites with them but I got hold of it not until I was 30 but I had nothing my whole life as an adult I never had anything to do with computers up to the age of 30 in fact 30 that's not true it's not true 28 because I used to use computers in an office but before that never used a computer

and I used to play with a computer when I was a security guard the receptionist this is in a printing company so this was in 96 maybe 97 I used to yeah probably 97 actually I used to go there she'd finish work about five so I'd get there about half four she'd finish at five and then I'd be sitting on the reception where she was but we'd spend half an hour together telling dirty jokes no and and then I'd be there until she got back but right I don't nine o'clock the next day or something

like that that was during or maybe 8 30 she yeah I think she'd get there at 8 30 and I'd leave at nine or something like that that was the um yeah I'm pretty sure it's 4 30 5 30 6 30 7 30 8 30 9 30 10 30 11 30 12 30 1 30 2 30 oh wait a minute 4 until 4 30 the next day that's 12 5 6 7 8 yeah I think it was 8 30 maybe anyway it's a 12 16 15 and a half 16 hour shift well she had an

apple computer on her desk because she was the receptionist she was you know she just she started teaching me bits and bobs like how to um put stuff into the trash bin and honestly I'd never even seen a computer really I had but I didn't know how to use it genuinely didn't I mean the last time I'd really looked at a computer screen before 97 was was probably when I got my paper round the paper shop manager used to print out the the addresses and everything for the papers and sometimes I'd see the screen of

the paper when I was stealing stuff and I did it and I didn't know anything about computers so I kind of she let me just play with it but because there wasn't anything I could really do so like now there was no internet or anything and well I'd not heard of the internet at that time if they'd had access to the internet wow but yeah this money would have been more fun see that kind of job would have been all right now in some ways because if I had a job in an office like that

it was quieter I think it was quiet enough but there's things offices always like buzzing and the I think the the lift kept turning itself on and off in the elevator and you know there's always like different things happening technically if I found a decent place that was quiet and I was left alone I can make recordings while I was getting paid to be sitting there that'd be cool wouldn't it but I remember once I was see I never had to I never had to deal with anything when I was a security guard never had

to deal with an emergency not really the worst yeah but okay there's a couple of things no okay there was a few things actually but nothing um no I don't want to tell you about the ones I had to deal with but nothing really you know where I was kind of but there was one there's one that I kind of really freaked me out and it is when I was in this one with the printers Dennis printers I said Dennis right it's come to my mind let me check this out this I like it when

I remember stuff Dennis printers um okay I wonder if it's the same company okay well okay it's not printers but it's Dennis magazines Dennis publishing I reckon publishing Dennis publishing it's not weird it's got Lucy Clark receptionist Dennis publishing now I've got I found Dennis publishing but it's Alfred Pierre Bloomsbury London I don't think that's the same place or it might be let's have a look oh my goodness I think it is exactly the same place wow no surely not I think it is oh wow I think it is the same I think it's the

same place yeah it's just redesigned it's a very different design but I think it is it might not though it might not be the same place um I might be just getting nostalgic well not nostalgic but you know but it's definitely what Dennis denies Dennis publishes I'm surprised it hasn't got any information these people make the great computer active magazines these are reviews on Google and so on and left fundamentally this company's ethos is to lie to customers and deceive them no one says I've repeatedly had subs debited which had previously been cancelled wow I

don't know no no knowledge of such things like that I'm not responsible for leave me alone you can't blame me for everything publisher Felix Dennis here we go yeah wow wow yeah it is the man wow 2007 Dennis sold his US magazine operation which published the magazines Blender Maxim and Stuff to Alpha Media Group for reported 250 million US dollars wow I can't believe it so in 2013 Dennis remained the sole owner of Dennis Publishing offices in both London and New York City holds over 50 magazine titles digital magazines website mobile sites okay so he

what one of his part of what he does is the week evo auto express car buyer pc pro computer shopper and viz and wow so I never met Felix Dennis I think I would like to he looks he's a proper um wow he's fairly I suppose he's it looks like he's in his 60s he says in 1967 Felix Dennis's career started as a street seller selling copies of the underground counterculture magazine Oz magazine on the streets of London's King's Road the magazine printed a mixture of left field stories discussions of uh various things and it

says after passing out at a friend's party he woke up in a flat shared by several young women in Walsingham mansions on the Fulham Road moved in paying rent by cleaning the flat what would become a massive collection of 60s and 70s graphic art began in a small way with the posters of Martin Sharp one of the originators of Oz magazine all right well I won't go through the whole thing apparently it says here Dennis recorded a single with John Lennon to raise money for a legal defense fund or he got um all right he

got he got arrested and he charged with conspiracy to corrupt public morals um that's funny um so he was the second publisher for personal computer world just look at what other thing is it wow so in 2000 the company went public and it was worth 2.

5 billion in 95 which just before I started there Dennis publisher created Maxim the title that began on the back of a beer mat became the world's biggest selling men's lifestyle come on boobies and bums boobies and bums got a lifestyle oh magazine in global range in 96 Dennis acquired a majority stake is what is now Dennis Publishing's flagship brand The Wig which is published in the UK and US circulation of 700,000 uh yeah sometimes I think of the past I think of oh oh yeah and this is this is the place Dennis Publishing I

remember because what they're not mentioning is they had Kerane and some of those real specialists let me just see remind me he's written quite a few books as well one is how to get rich how to make money um well he definitely knows that doesn't he how to fear this I want to see oh this is his own website I think so if I just put in Kerane okay no magazines magazines things okay money week pc pro auto express this 14 times I used to buy that computer shopper web user octane mac user bizarre I

used to read that custom pc computer active micro mart poker player cyclist computer buyer Dennis Digital all right see I know for a fact that Kerane was on there so let me have a look it was I mean Kerane might not even be around anymore but it was like heavy metal because they they had a whole section of his music unless it's a completely different company oh my goodness I think that's gonna bug me now come on I mean women's fitness men's fitness your family tree NME NME yeah NME PC zone auto express come on

bizarre I used to like bizarre come on gaming yeah they also did gaming magazines but they were the first to do that okay come on come on you know what I'm gonna do that's it I'm gonna search Kerane I want to see whether or not my memory is correct I mean I don't I genuinely don't know anything about heavy metal really you know it's not one of my just sleep still but Kerane I remember that because it was a heavy metal magazine magazine more titles from heavy metal yeah see I was right metal hammer this

is a magazine yeah metal hammer sometimes written written metal hammer one word is a monthly heavy metal and rock music magazine published in the united kingdom by future okay so look ah okay this isn't looking good so far but it's definitely I know I know my stuff I have faith in okay publishers metal hammer uk change hands several times being bought first by dennis publishing ah see then by future plc then my team rock okay so now this is the the thing that everyone's waiting for everyone's excited about I think where are we oh come

on you I shouldn't have got up so early because Andre's now awake like proper he thinks he thinks he thinks that he can go out for a walk now oh this is gonna bug me now because I just found uh information about Kerane oh oh oh come on maybe I'm wrong maybe oh my got it wrong I don't like to be wrong I could just say who's gonna research and say well wait a minute let me just check Kerane that wasn't it was owned by it was edited by Jeff Barton in 1981 6th of June

Dennis publishing didn't actually produce that particular magazine because what they did they had the writers of the magazine in there you know the journalists and the editors and all that stuff and they were sent off to be printed elsewhere there's a big big building lots of people working there and they'll have a different section for each magazine I'm pretty sure Kerang was on the in the basement again on my view Kerang TV oh wow now we now address scratching the door he's really winding up at the moment he's actually I tell you what's annoying about

it is he doesn't do it during the day you know once you get to nine o'clock in the morning between nine and you know normal scratching times a time when he could scratch at the front door and it wouldn't affect anybody doesn't do it he does it he's antisocial he's an antisocial ferret seriously scratch at the door three o'clock in the morning or as it is three minutes to six really three minutes to six wow that's ridiculous all right stop it do you want to cuddle accounts put the iPad over there hello my little boy

he's all wet he gets so excited he's like he's just on heat all the time like he's just he's dripping it's weird to explain it but yeah I'm sorry I moan at you thing is Andrea I personally don't care about you scratching the door doesn't bother me but I'm concerned about the neighbors I don't want you to be um disturbing the neighbors I don't so because of that when I hear the sound of you scratching it annoys me but I'm not personally that bothered it's just because I don't want to disturb the neighbors that's all

you understand yeah do you understand understand daddy sneeze if you don't care give me a nice sneeze if you don't care you know last night he climbed up and I just had um a a chocolate no it wasn't mousse I think it was a Cadbury's thing with um chocolate buttons and stuff I only got two of them actually for the whole week because I've only eaten one but anyway I was eating it and he climbed onto my up my leg and I kept pushing him away because I was eating this thing and eventually he forced

his way up so he wasn't giving up and he's he's licking my lips because there's chocolate on my lips probably on my beard I don't know um a little bit along my toes you know just general and he's saying god I want more water as I open my mouth wide just to show him that there's nothing left that's it he sneezes right in my mouth not even joking it's like right in my it's like it's like a cave chucking a coin into a well I mean it was just ridiculous really you want to go okay

go away then and then a few you know I got this I used to connect had to getting connected as I said go back to my dad you know go home on a Wednesday afternoon and I started to connect this nice feeling and I started to expect it only happened twice maybe in a month and then but I equated me walking a different route different you know pathway to going home for this to happen like nothing like the snooker table wouldn't have been there at all if I'd have just gone a different route I got

home there'll be no snooker table there which is the most pathetic thinking isn't it it's like well obviously not the snooker table would have been there even if you'd crawled on your bum home seriously if I'd done handstands walked on my hands or coating yourself in peanut butter and just let a bunch of ants flying ants grab me and fly me home the point is the snooker table would have been there even if I'd even if I'd have done something really ridiculous just got into trouble got been a really naughty boy on that on that

afternoon that Wednesday I'd have got home there'd have been a snooker table there you know so I might have thought oh that's that's the reward I get from being naughty that dumb mentality that's like oh it's connected wasn't connected had nothing to do with me at all but I really believed it did I mean it's times when I was about what 11 even still at 11 years old I I believed I could control the weather because prior to that time I looked at the sky and I said rain and it rained and I did it

again did another time and I was like just stared at the sky and my brother asked me what are you doing you doing in my bed I said I'm I'm making it rain I'm staring at the sky and it rained and he said what was what was that about I said I made it rain you saw me do it the other day as well it's not the first time you see me do it why are you surprised he said hello that wasn't supposed to happen I have to get rid of Siri I don't know why

it came on I said something that must have anyway yeah so okay I'm back so my brother said to me he said if you want if you want to impress me why don't you make it rain on a sunny day when no rain is forecast instead of on a dark miserable day when it's really cloudy and overcast and it's already been raining all day long beforehand you know instead of just waiting for a little a gap where it's not raining and to look at the sky as if you're some kind of starting some kind of

cult now make it rain of course it's gonna rain to be raining all day so I just considered him to be a non-believer so I uh you know if he didn't want to follow me he didn't have to Kerrang Bower Bower Media Group uh uh this is bugging me a little bit because I want to but it's definitely unless it was all part of the same kind of company yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah Gregor Wilson I'm joining the war uh maybe maybe it had nothing to do with Dennis publishing I think it did

though I need to find out I need to find out more yeah so realizing trying for years I used to do that stuff like connect something that's happened and I still do some you know I try and stop myself and being pathetic but you know it still happens I was born pathetic and will probably continue in fact I'm very good at it and it's just like no of course some things really are connected you know our actions and the results of our actions and all that stuff but the whole idea that I know what I'm

gonna do I'm gonna I'm gonna dance in the garden and I want to tap five times on the on the garden fence and that means that I'm gonna get pregnant yeah you probably need to do more than that let me tell you a story it is something that you might be really excited about I know I am I've never been more excited in my life oh by the way the reason I was talking about current sentences and all that stuff is because I was drinking out of my bottle of water before I started this recording

and I was literally thinking to myself I'm gonna tell you about this bottle of water because it's um you know it's interesting it's interesting stuff and it's Buxton still water 1.

5 liter but the shape of the bottle is absolutely perfect it's perfect for drinking out of the shape of it and considering how big the bottle is well it's not massive but you know it's a so bigger than a small one and as I was thinking that I took the lid off and the lid fell off of my well it fell down my leg and rolled across the floor onto Andre's paper in the corner and landed face down into a fresh poo of his so I can't put the lid back on that bottle of water

because you know even if it was disinfected by NASA I'd still not put it back onto that bottle if they melted it down and you know we made it with virgins tears I would not put it on you know I would just talk about being pure arms because we all know that it's purity isn't it yeah and I couldn't because once you know once I know once I know yeah that's like when I clear up his food it is his bits and bobs which are a bit you know it's not his fault you know it's

got to come out and sometimes you know it doesn't quite go to plan when I'm cleaning it up so I'm now washing my hands scrubbing my hands and I don't eat for hours because I can't use my fingers until I've forgotten about it I don't mean I never use my fingers I mean I still my fingers still work I'm not just standing there like with my arm in the air like no I can't use this until I forget because that's not the best way to forget something is it if you keep reminding yourself that you

want to forget in it here's a couple of things I want to say thank you to a couple of people first for I want to say to thank you there are certain people I want to say thank you to all the time but I have to stop that you know I have to kind of I have to get focused man I have to be focused so the two people Mary Mary it might be Mari but I think it's Mari Mari and Viola thank you very much for your kindness I do appreciate you I have implied

to I've taught sent messages to you you're very very kind and so thank you I yesterday all my troubles seem so far away yesterday I downloaded a couple of new apps on my iPad which so now I don't have the laptop anymore I am dependent as far as you know for the yeah I'm dependent on the iPad I'm not dependent it's not you know my life is not dependent upon it I do have the phone which I use as well but as far as like reading editing you know stuff like that the iPad's better for

me because it's a bit better like size wise and there's two apps that I found that are really useful see last week I downloaded twisted wave which is what I now use to edit and which is really good and that was a one-off payment I think of 10 pound I think so that was done so it's it's adapting it's adapting the way I do stuff so now I use the tablet the Android tablet and the iPad and I need both of them in order to do what I'm doing because one does one thing what does

a few things that the other can't do it's weird I just think that it'll be able to do the same thing but a lot of these do with the internet and the websites that won't just won't function the way they're supposed to on an iPad or on an Android I don't know why really don't understand why and so so I've got twisted wave editor which I've found really I've now I know how to use it you know because I've spent hours probably about 20 hours using it since last week so now I'm talking no more

around it yesterday because part of the part of this free service I offer and the expenses also includes my education as well I don't mean like English maths I'm talking about like the audible because I have to learn and add to my knowledge base not for the let me boy to sleep ones but for the hypnosis stuff that I do so that I can increase my knowledge and become better at what I do become more knowledgeable especially when it comes to like stress anxiety but also other subjects that I'm going to be doing hypnosis recordings

on so part of that is you know reading I've got kindle but for me listening to a book is better for me there's a few reasons I'm a very very slow reader which isn't ideal really my eyes get a little bit tired as well which is just my eyes my eyes you know what can I do so I like to listen to books but I don't necessarily want to listen to an audible book which is like professionally produced the person who published it might or you know wrote it might be reading it and stuff I

do love those books but and I've got about how many have I got how many books have I got on audible 39 titles so you know it's got a nice little collection and with audible you can play on fast speed which is what I did last night I was listening to it when I fell asleep and it was still playing when I woke up but I got through nearly nine hours in about five hours so I had it on you know so it wasn't his it wasn't so completely I could understand I could comprehend what

was being said I could honest some weird dreams though connected to what I'm hearing sometimes so good reader this is what I downloaded because I had the mp3 no pdf reader and that was that was all right but it wasn't working for me I needed something that was going to read that I could listen to pdf files and it played it and it's really good and it was you know so what I did is um I think it was only $4.

99 but I downloaded it on the ipad so I paid for it so it's all right if you can get a free app brilliant if they're free but this one it was $4. 99 so I paid $4.

99 so now I've got I can put my headphones in and I played I think 150 pages to me it listened to 150 pages in about an hour of this book by Bob Proctor and I could comprehend every single word so it wasn't that I didn't you know and I was listening to it I wasn't just you know but I was listening to it I was listening to it on this governor so that was really cool and I also downloaded a an app called Evernote which is really good for it's got a picture of a

green elephant on it and it means that I can organize my files and organize my stuff and that's free I don't know if there's a paid one I think there's a paid version I don't really know what that would consist of so I've not looked into it oh yeah I have wait a minute there's a 10 gigabyte storage or something so maybe I'll need to upgrade it at some point this is really good for me because I've started I can do all kinds of things there's tech sheets there's reminders there's pod all kinds of stuff

so I've I started using it last night and I was yeah I'm gonna try and get myself a bit more organized so this is all part of what I'm doing you know this is and luckily the Evernote is free google reader or good good not google good reader that's $4.

99 there's all these little little expenses that luckily they're one-offs it's a good reader was a one-off twisted wave was a one-off which means I can edit and I can also study and I'm not reading books I'm not reading um horror fiction or fantasy I'm reading uh I say oh a lot I realize that sorry don't care I read a lot of factual stuff educational stuff I say a lot but that's that's what I generally focus on so that's why I got the paid for the good reader and that's why I've got audible again in

all unaudible there isn't one book on there that's fiction not one book out of the 39 titles it's all you know it's all relevant to my development as a person hopefully but also relevant to the subjects that I talk about again not on these recordings this is just me being silly and boring so I'm going to go thank you very much I can't believe you went so quickly it went so damn quickly thank you for listening I'm now gonna put the cam on and I'm gonna have my breakfast and I'm gonna watch Cheers which starts
